atNorth plans to build FIN05, a data center on a 28.6-hectare site in Salo, Finland. Its first phase is planned at 75 MW, with power secured; the wider development has a path to as much as 230 MW, but the full 230 MW is not reported as secured. atNorth lists Q3 2028 as the planned availability date for first-phase power—not a confirmed opening date.
What is FIN05, and where will it be built?
FIN05 is a planned data center development by Nordic operator atNorth. The company announced it on 5 October 2026, placing it on a 28.6-hectare site in Salo, southern Finland. Local broadcaster Yle reports that the site is in the Kärkkä industrial area near the former sugar factory. atNorth’s announcement and Yle’s report describe the project as a plan, not a completed facility.

How much power and capacity is planned?
The announced first phase is planned at 75 MW, and atNorth says power for that phase is secured. The wider development has a pathway to up to 230 MW. That is a potential build-out figure, not confirmation that all 230 MW is already secured.
atNorth’s Finland portfolio page distinguishes the figures: it lists 230 MW of campus power capacity and up to 160 MW of IT capacity. Campus power and IT capacity measure different things and should not be treated as interchangeable. The page also lists first-phase power availability for Q3 2028.

- Save valuable floor space: 6U wall mount server cabinet Dimensions: 13.78" H x21.65" W x17.72" D.Maximum mounting depth is 14.2"
- Keep critical network equipment secure: glass door and side panels are lockable to prevent unauthorized access. Front door can be installed on either side of the front of the cabinet to satisfy your door swing orientation preference
- Easy equipment configuration: Fully adjustable mounting rails and numbered U positions, with square holes for easy equipment mounting with top and bottom punch-out panels for easy cable access
- Durability: Made of high quality cold rolled steel holds up to 110lb (50kg) (Easy Assembly Required)
- PCI & HIPPA and EIA/ECA-310-E compliant
When will FIN05 be ready?
Q3 2028 is atNorth’s planned date for first-phase power availability. It is not stated as a confirmed opening or customer-service launch date. The 5 October 2026 announcement does not provide a construction start date or a complete commissioning schedule, so the available timing does not establish when the facility will be fully built or operational.
How will the site get power, and what is proposed for energy?
The announcement says the site will connect through a Fingrid substation. atNorth says it plans long-term power purchase agreements with local energy suppliers, but it does not name suppliers or say agreements have been signed. The company is also considering flexibility solutions that could support transmission-grid operation.
Will FIN05’s waste heat be used locally?
atNorth says it will explore opportunities to use data-center heat locally with regional stakeholders. The announcement does not identify a Salo heat-reuse partner or a finalized agreement. The company cites collaborations elsewhere—with Kesko in Finland, Stockholm Exergi in Sweden, and Vestforbrænding and Selected Group in Denmark—but does not identify those organizations as FIN05 partners.

What is the estimated investment?
atNorth estimates its investment in the Salo site at approximately €2 billion. That estimate excludes customer-owned servers and their installation, which the company says could add up to €10 billion. These are estimates, not final spending figures or a confirmed total project cost. Yle reports the same distinction. atNorth’s announcement; Yle.
What is known about jobs and local economic effects?
Salo Mayor Anna-Kristiina Korhonen said the project would create employment opportunities during construction and operations and bring wider benefits to local businesses. The announcement gives no job count or quantified estimate of local economic impact, so those outcomes cannot yet be measured from the published figures.

atNorth’s Sustainability Report 2025 provides company-wide context, not a forecast for FIN05:
Rank #3
- Sturdy:4u server rack is construct from cold rolled steel, with a weight capacity of 110lbs(50kg); Electrostatic powder coat prevents rust and corrosion, quality finish
- Direct use:Open and use, not having to assemble it.Network rack can be placed flat or mounted on the wall, also can be installed vertically under the table
- Design Features:maximum mounting depth of 14 in,cables can be fixed on the side panel;Open frame server rack achieves effortless inspection, replacement and assemble
- Installation:wall mount network rack is easy to install, with instructions or videos for reference;Equipped with multiple accessories, suitable for different needs
- Application:EIA/ECA-310-E Compliant;wall mounted 4u rack fits all 19" racks and cabinets to hold various IT, network, and AV equipment;wall mount rack available in 4U, 6U, and 8U to choose
- Power usage effectiveness: atNorth reported an average PUE of 1.21 in 2025, against an ongoing target of no more than 1.20 when sites are fully populated to 100% of IT design load.
- Heat reuse: two of the company’s seven operational sites had active heat reuse at the end of 2025.
- Waste recovery: atNorth reported recovering 90% of operational waste in 2025.
These company-wide results do not establish FIN05’s future PUE, energy mix, waste performance, or heat-reuse arrangements. FIN05’s local heat use remains an opportunity the company says it will explore. atNorth Sustainability Report 2025.
How to interpret the headline capacity figures
When comparing FIN05 with another data-center project, check what each megawatt figure represents and how certain it is. For FIN05, the useful distinctions are secured first-phase power versus the wider pathway, campus power versus IT capacity, and planned first-phase power availability versus a confirmed opening. Investment comparisons also depend on whether they include customer server purchases and installation.
