Atlassian Data Center does have a March 28, 2029 end-of-life date—but that is not the first deadline. As of October 3, 2026, the cutoff for new customers to buy affected Data Center subscriptions has already passed. Existing customers face a separate cutoff on March 30, 2028 for new subscriptions, Marketplace apps and subscription expansions. The 2029 date is when affected subscriptions expire and environments become read-only.

When does Atlassian Data Center end of life?

Atlassian’s published schedule has three milestones, each with a different effect. The times below are Pacific Standard Time (PST), as specified by Atlassian.

Date and time What changes
March 30, 2026, 23:59 PST New customers can no longer purchase affected Data Center subscriptions or new Data Center Marketplace apps.
March 30, 2028, 23:59 PST Existing customers can no longer purchase new affected Data Center subscriptions, Marketplace apps or subscription expansions. They may still renew current subscriptions, but a renewal cannot run past end of life.
March 28, 2029, 23:59 PST Affected products reach end of life. Subscriptions and associated Marketplace app licenses expire, and environments become read-only. A 12-month renewal that would extend beyond that date is prorated to end of life.

These dates are Atlassian’s announced schedule, not one universal deadline to migrate every organization by 2026. The new-customer cutoff has passed; the existing-customer purchase cutoff and end of life are still ahead. See Atlassian’s Data Center end-of-life details.

Which Atlassian products are affected?

The announcement covers Jira Software Data Center, Jira Service Management Data Center, Confluence Data Center, Bamboo Data Center and Crowd Data Center. It also covers Data Center mobile apps, Atlassian Data Center apps and third-party Marketplace apps for affected products.

Products excluded from this announcement

  • Bitbucket Data Center: Atlassian says it will not end of life under this announcement. Existing Bitbucket Data Center customers will receive access to a hybrid license for Data Center and Cloud.
  • Jira Align Data Center: Also excluded from this end-of-life announcement.

Check the scope for your exact product and app rather than assuming all Atlassian Data Center offerings share the same outcome. Atlassian lists the covered products and exclusions on its end-of-life page and Data Center licensing page.

What happens to Jira or Confluence Data Center after March 28, 2029?

At end of life, affected subscriptions and associated Marketplace app licenses expire. The environment becomes read-only: existing data remains accessible, but ordinary continued product use is no longer available. Atlassian warns against leaving an expired environment connected to the internet because it will no longer receive new security bug fixes after end of life.

Through March 28, 2029, Atlassian says it will provide technical support, security bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities and connectors from Data Center products to Atlassian Cloud. Extended maintenance after end of life may be available to some customers by exception; it is not a general extension or a basis for assuming a particular installation can continue indefinitely. Confirm any exception directly with Atlassian.

Can existing customers still buy or renew Data Center licenses?

Existing customers may continue renewing their current affected subscriptions before end of life, subject to the March 30, 2028 cutoff for new purchases and expansions. Renewals cannot extend beyond March 28, 2029; when a 12-month renewal would go beyond that date, Atlassian says it is prorated to end of life. New customers, by contrast, have been unable to buy affected subscriptions or new Data Center Marketplace apps since March 30, 2026.

Atlassian’s licensing FAQ says existing Data Center customers can access free Cloud migration trials matching their remaining Data Center subscription duration, up to 12 months, and matching their tier, up to 20,000. Marketplace apps can be trialed for 30 days. Eligibility and current terms should be confirmed with Atlassian; see its licensing FAQ.

How should you plan a migration?

Migration planning should start with the organization’s constraints, not a calendar date alone. Atlassian notes that data sovereignty and compliance requirements can add complexity; teams should also assess Marketplace app availability and Cloud equivalents, migration complexity and user count, testing needs, and license overlap, support and total cost. The available guidance does not establish a complete feature-by-feature comparison of Cloud and Data Center, so validate requirements for your own products and apps.

Prepare and test

  • Develop test cases and run user acceptance testing. Review the results and repeat the migration when needed.
  • Inventory the relevant products, integrations and Marketplace apps; validate that required functions and compliance controls will work in the target environment.
  • Back up data before the production migration.

Plan the cutover

  • Choose a low-activity migration window and leave time for delays.
  • Communicate the plan, coordinate with support teams and restrict changes during cutover where appropriate.
  • If migrating more than 1,000 users, Atlassian’s Cloud Migration Checklist says to tell the Cloud Migration Manager the production date at least one month in advance.

Atlassian directs customers to their account executive or its contact route to discuss next steps. Its Ascend page describes FastShift as a white-glove migration service and says the program is complimentary for organizations over 1,000 users, with the aim of accelerating migration. Eligibility and current terms are vendor-set and should be verified with Atlassian. The Cloud Migration Checklist provides additional preparation guidance.

What Atlassian’s migration statistics do—and do not—show

Atlassian’s end-of-life page says 99% of its customers are in Cloud or on a path there, including 75% of regulated and enterprise customers. Its migration page also displays a 95% migration plan success rate for Jira and Confluence, and says 44% of enterprise customers are able to make faster data-driven decisions after moving to Cloud. The cited pages do not state a year for these figures; they are Atlassian claims, not dated independent measurements. Use them as vendor context, not as a forecast for an individual migration.
