Short answer: the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro remains an appealing niche used phone if you want a notch-free 90Hz AMOLED display, microSD storage, a large battery and a rotating camera. It is not a sensible mainstream 2026 purchase for buyers who need current security updates, guaranteed US carrier support, warranty coverage or low repair risk. Its value now depends more on battery health, camera-mechanism condition, exact regional SKU and price than on its impressive 2020 specification sheet.
What is the Asus Zenfone 7 Pro?
Asus announced the Zenfone 7 Pro (model ZS671KS) on August 26, 2020. It was a flagship-class Android phone built around a motorized triple-camera module that rotates from the rear to the front, so the same cameras handle ordinary photos, video and selfies. The announcement and product overview are documented by ASUS and the official product page.
The Pro differs mainly from the standard Zenfone 7 through its Snapdragon 865 Plus processor and commonly specified 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The standard Zenfone 7 used Snapdragon 865 and had different memory and storage configurations depending on market. ASUS says specifications, network bands, accessories and availability can vary by region, so confirm the exact handset and SKU before buying.
In 2026 this is an unsupported Android phone: ASUS lists Zenfone 7 hardware support through 2023 and software support through 2022 on its end-of-support page. That does not erase its hardware strengths, but it changes the buying decision.

Design and display
The uninterrupted 6.67-inch AMOLED panel is still the phone’s clearest visual advantage. It runs at 90Hz rather than the 120Hz or higher refresh rates common on newer phones, but scrolling remains noticeably smoother than 60Hz. ASUS lists Full HD+ resolution, Gorilla Glass 6, Delta-E under 1 and DC dimming under supported settings. On a six-year-old unit, inspect for AMOLED burn-in, dead pixels, green tint, uneven brightness and touch faults; panel aging matters more than the launch specification.
The phone is broad, thick and unusually heavy at roughly 230–235g. A side-mounted fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button, and the hardware includes stereo speakers, NFC, Wi-Fi 6, USB-C, microSD expansion and, in listed regions, dual-SIM support. There is no headphone jack, and the available material does not establish an official IP water-resistance rating.
How the rotating camera works
The motorized top module physically turns between rear-facing and front-facing positions. It contains a 64MP primary camera, 12MP ultrawide, 8MP telephoto with 3× optical zoom and OIS, plus a dual-LED flash. Because the rear cameras become the selfie cameras, selfies can use the main sensor, ultrawide framing and the telephoto lens rather than a separate low-resolution front camera. - A genuinely notch-free or punch-hole-free display.
- Higher-quality selfies and ultrawide group selfies than many 2020 phones.
- Rear-camera video used from the front, creative angles and selectable camera positions.
- Hardware-assisted effects such as automatic panorama movement.
What can go wrong
The mechanism is also the phone’s largest used-buy risk. Drops, grit, impact, a poorly fitted case, motor wear or a failed position sensor can cause hesitation, grinding, incomplete rotation or an obstruction warning. Do not force the module by hand. A seller should demonstrate repeated rotations, all three lenses, rear and front video and operation with the case removed.
Launch-era reviews from TechRadar, Android Authority and Notebookcheck praised the concept while identifying the mechanical trade-off. None establishes an indestructible design or a guaranteed motor lifespan.
Performance and cameras in 2026
Snapdragon 865 Plus, LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage still handle messaging, navigation, streaming, photography, social apps and many games well. It was a high-end 2020 platform, but it is several generations behind current processors. Sustained gaming depends on thermal condition and battery health, and newer apps may increasingly require newer Android versions or security APIs. Treat it as capable older hardware, not a current flagship.
The camera hardware remains versatile, especially for daylight, portraits, ultrawide scenes and selfies. Newer phones generally deliver better computational photography, HDR consistency, night processing, stabilization and image quality from small sensors. A rotating assembly can also make rapid framing less convenient and should not be repeatedly cycled if it is noisy, hot or hesitant.

Battery life and charging
A 5,000mAh battery and up-to-30W charging were major strengths. Reviewers reported roughly two-day light or moderate use in particular test conditions, but that result is not a promise for a used 2026 handset. Capacity depends on charge cycles, heat exposure, fast-charging history, replacement quality, 5G use, gaming, camera use and the 90Hz setting.
When inspecting one, look for rapid percentage drops, unusual heat, swelling and charging interruptions. ASUS’s published endurance figures are laboratory or review-era measurements, not a guaranteed runtime today. The phone supports USB Power Delivery 3.0 and Quick Charge 4.0, but a 65W or 100W charger will not make it charge above its listed 30W limit.
Software support: the decisive 2026 limitation
The Zenfone 7 Pro launched with Android 10 and ZenUI 7, later receiving Android 11 and Android 12. ASUS documented Android 12 build 31.0210.0210.250 on May 16, 2022, with a later official WW/EU/RU firmware listing:

These records appear in ASUS’s Android 12 release note, later revision note and firmware listing. Android 12 is the documented major-version endpoint, not current security support. In August 2026, banking, work and government use carries a meaningful security and compatibility disadvantage; no claim that every app will fail is justified, but future requirements may exclude the phone.

Firmware is SKU-specific. ASUS instructs owners to match packages such as WW to WW or CN to CN; a wrong package can fail, and downgrading may erase data. Back up first and avoid unofficial ROMs if you depend on the original camera rotation, banking apps, DRM or carrier behavior.
US carrier and 5G compatibility
Do not assume that a generic “5G” label means the phone will work reliably on a particular US network. Compatibility depends on the exact regional ZS671KS variant, LTE and 5G bands, VoLTE provisioning, carrier certification, network retirements and IMEI eligibility. ASUS notes that products and certification vary by market on its support page.
Before paying, give the carrier the phone’s IMEI and confirm voice, LTE data, VoLTE and any required 5G support. Imported models can have different bands, update channels, preinstalled software, SIM layouts, NFC behavior, chargers and warranties. Working mobile data alone does not guarantee dependable voice service.

Used-buy inspection checklist
- Verify identity: confirm model ZS671KS, exact regional SKU and storage configuration.
- Check the network: run the IMEI with your carrier and confirm VoLTE, LTE bands and 5G requirements.
- Exercise the camera: rotate it repeatedly, test every lens, front and rear video, autofocus, flash and panorama movement; reject grinding, clicking, slipping or hesitation.
- Inspect the mechanism: remove the case and look for impact, cracks, debris or hinge distortion.
- Test the battery and port: charge through USB-C, watch for heat or rapid drain and check for looseness or corrosion.
- Examine the display: test low and high brightness, touch input, dead pixels, burn-in and tint.
- Confirm software status: check Android version, build/SKU, update history and whether unofficial firmware is installed.
- Protect your account: require a factory reset with no Google account or screen lock remaining, and use a seller with a return period.
For a camera failure, remove the case, restart the phone and inspect for visible obstruction. Install only matching official firmware; do not force the module or repeatedly cycle it if it grinds or heats. Mechanical damage generally needs repair, and a reset is not a guaranteed fix.
Who should buy it—and who should not?
It can make sense when
- You specifically want the rotating-camera experience and uninterrupted display.
- The handset is inexpensive, tested and in excellent physical condition.
- microSD, dual-SIM capability and a large battery matter more than compact size.
- Your carrier confirms the exact IMEI and you accept Android 12’s support age.
Choose something newer when
- Security updates, banking, work or government apps are priorities.
- You need guaranteed US carrier support, warranty service or predictable parts.
- You want wireless charging, a headphone jack, modern water resistance or current camera processing.
- You cannot verify the camera mechanism, battery, SKU, reset status or return policy.
Alternatives by need
- Current compact Android phone: better update policy, serviceability and network certainty, but no equivalent rotating camera.
- Newer ASUS Zenfone: more current software and hardware for ASUS fans, again without the flip mechanism.
- Older Zenfone 6: a cheaper route to the rotating-camera idea, with a weaker display and processor.
- Current mainstream phone: stronger security, computational photography, battery replacement options and carrier support.
Compare the complete cost of the handset, a model-specific case, charger, microSD card and any battery repair against a newer supported phone. No reliable universal current price exists because used listings vary sharply by region and condition.
Final verdict
The Zenfone 7 Pro is still compelling as an inexpensive enthusiast phone, not as a general-purpose 2026 recommendation. Buy only a demonstrably healthy, carrier-compatible unit when the distinctive camera and notch-free screen are the reason you want it. If long-term security, dependable network activation or low ownership risk matters more, choose a newer supported device.
