1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe ASUS Zenbook S 14 UX5406SA pairs a responsive Core Ultra 7 256V with capable integrated graphics and a refined OLED display, but its eight-core CPU is better at quick everyday work than heavy parallel workloads. HotHardware’s October 14, 2024 review also finds that configuration choice matters: the reviewed Lunar Lake memory is not user-upgradeable, and the 32 GB Core Ultra 7 258V option performed better in one application benchmark.
What MyASUS lets you control
On the review sample, MyASUS brings system specifications, diagnostics, system and BIOS updates, and several hardware controls together. Its available settings included battery care, fan profiles, OLED care, and input behavior. The reviewer ran the main system tests in the default Performance fan profile; software interfaces and options can change with later versions.

- Fan profile: Performance was the default used for the page 2 testing.
- GPU memory: MyASUS showed a 512 MB default allocation. The driver could adjust memory dynamically; the reviewer saw games use as much as 8 GB without encountering a problem.
- Touchpad gestures: The installed software offered gestures for volume, brightness, and media controls.
How the Core Ultra 7 256V performs
Responsive in everyday and single-threaded work
HotHardware characterizes the 256V as particularly responsive, with strong single-threaded results in its test suite. Reviewer Zak Killian wrote, “This is a CPU focused on responsiveness, not massive multi-core throughput, and that shows through in the results here, where our system puts up one of the best single-core results we’ve ever seen—at least, on wall power.” The wall-power qualification matters: the review also notes that performance drops on battery power.
Multi-core throughput has a clear ceiling
The processor has eight CPU cores and no hyper-threading. That design can deliver quick response in lightly threaded tasks, but it gives the 256V less multi-core throughput than processors with more cores. For sustained rendering or other heavily parallel work, the Zenbook S 14 is not the strongest fit in its class.

Strong integrated graphics, with gaming limits
The integrated Arc graphics scored well in selected 3DMark tests, and the reviewer found some games playable. Those results do not make this a dedicated gaming laptop: frame rates can fall at higher graphics settings, and demanding games or graphics-heavy creation benefit from a discrete GPU. The results describe HotHardware’s sample and chosen tests, not a guarantee for every title or configuration.
Application work and memory configuration
The Zenbook S 14 performed respectably in PCMark 10 Applications, but HotHardware’s comparison found the 32 GB Core Ultra 7 258V model ahead of the reviewed 256V system in that benchmark. These are distinct configurations, not interchangeable descriptions of one tested machine. The review stresses that memory capacity can matter when Office applications and many browser tabs are open.

Battery, noise, and heat in HotHardware’s tests
These figures are measurements from HotHardware’s 2024 review under its stated test conditions, not universal expectations. In its battery video test, the laptop lasted 21 hours and 43 minutes; the review contrasted that result with ASUS’s claim of 27 hours. Individual runtime varies with workload, settings, and conditions.

For intensive tasks in Full-speed fan mode, HotHardware recorded a maximum sound level of 47.7 dB at one foot. The review also recorded keyboard-deck temperatures above 110°F (43°C), which it said could be noticeable while gaming. In a representative Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail benchmark, the laptop did not thermally throttle; synthetic power-virus tests could force throttling.

Display and design
The review highlights the lightweight, upscale design and 2880 × 1800 HDR OLED display as major attractions. That high-resolution screen is a central part of the laptop’s appeal, particularly for everyday viewing and visual work.

Ports and desk setups
The listed connections are HDMI, two Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 3.5 mm audio jack, and one USB Type-A port. HotHardware considers total external I/O limited for workstation use. If your desk setup needs several peripherals, wired networking, or external storage, a Thunderbolt dock is an optional way to expand connectivity; the review did not test or recommend a particular dock.

Who should consider the Zenbook S 14?
- A good fit: Buyers who value a premium lightweight design, OLED display, and responsive everyday performance, and whose workloads do not depend on maximum multi-core throughput.
- Consider another class of laptop: People doing sustained CPU-heavy production work, demanding gaming, or graphics-intensive creation that calls for a discrete GPU.
- Check before buying: Confirm the memory capacity of the exact SKU and whether its port selection suits your setup; the reviewed memory cannot be upgraded later.
The underlying measurements and configuration comparisons come from Zak Killian’s HotHardware review, published October 14, 2024: review overview, MyASUS and Core Ultra 7 256V testing, and battery, noise, and thermal testing. Notebookcheck’s UX5406 configuration and specifications collection corroborates the 2880 × 1800 resolution; regional and SKU details can vary.
