Asus Zenbook 14 UX3480 review: What $799 buys—and what it doesn’t

The 2026 Asus Zenbook 14 UX3480 makes a strong first impression for a laptop that starts at $799: it is light, has a 14-inch OLED display, and includes USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, and a headphone jack. But the entry configuration’s 8GB of memory is restrictive, and reviews flag trade-offs in battery life, trackpad behavior, and fan noise. Treat $799 as the starting price—not the confirmed price of every configuration.

Which Asus Zenbook 14 is this?

This review concerns the 2026 Snapdragon-based Zenbook 14, model family UX3480, including the UX3480QA configuration discussed by reviewers. It is not a review of older Intel- or AMD-based Zenbook 14 OLED models. ASUS announced a US starting price of $799 in June 2026; the price of a specific configuration depends on its memory, storage, and other options. ASUS’s June 2026 product announcement identifies the Snapdragon family as UX3480.

What do the $799 and reviewed configurations include?

Configuration is the most important qualification to the headline price. Windows Central identifies the $799 entry configuration as having 8GB of onboard RAM and lists a 256GB SSD. PCWorld’s reviewed unit instead had 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. Those are different configurations, so do not assume the review-unit memory comes with the $799 model.

Configuration or specification What the sources report
US starting price $799, stated by ASUS in its June 2, 2026 product article; this is a starting price, not a confirmed price for every configuration.
Entry configuration 8GB onboard RAM and 256GB SSD, as identified by Windows Central in its 2026 review.
PCWorld review unit 16GB RAM and 256GB SSD, as specified in PCWorld’s September 17, 2026 review.
Maximum listed by ASUS Up to 16GB LPDDR5x RAM and up to 512GB PCIe SSD in ASUS’s 2026 product article; availability may vary by SKU and region.

PCWorld reported that its review-time offering had no larger SSD option, while ASUS’s product information lists capacity up to 512GB. Availability can differ by region, retailer, and date. Before buying, check the full model number and listing details for RAM, SSD capacity, and touch status rather than relying on the family name alone. ASUS’s product article describes optional touchscreen language, but Windows Central’s tested configuration was non-touch; touchscreen support should be verified for the exact SKU.

  • For everyday computing in home or office settings, this HP laptop is identified as a standard laptop computer for a familiar notebook format.
  • The packaged unit weighs 6 pounds and measures 21 by 14 by 3 inches, providing clear handling information when planning a workspace or storage area.

Does it feel more premium than its price?

In several everyday ways, yes. PCWorld praised the laptop’s lightweight, stylish construction, OLED screen, sound, and office performance. ASUS lists a starting weight of 1.1kg, and Notebookcheck also reports 1.1kg. That makes it an easy fit for commuting or moving between rooms, though the number is a manufacturer starting specification and can vary by configuration.

The Snapdragon X X1-26-100 in Windows Central’s UX3480QA specification has eight cores and integrated Adreno graphics. Reviewers describe the machine as suitable for office work, web browsing, video meetings, streaming, and modest multitasking. That is a sensible productivity profile, not evidence that it is a good choice for demanding games or professional video and graphics workloads.

What is the OLED display like?

The 14-inch OLED is a central part of the laptop’s appeal: OLED contrast and color can make films, photos, and everyday interfaces look richer than a basic LCD. ASUS claims 100% DCI-P3 coverage for the product family. PCWorld and Windows Central report a 1920×1200 resolution and 60Hz refresh rate for the configurations they discuss; Windows Central’s tested model was non-touch.

There are practical compromises. PCWorld describes the screen as glossy and reports typical brightness of around 300 cd/m² for its discussion of the display. A glossy finish can reflect windows and overhead lights, while that brightness level may be less comfortable in bright environments than a brighter panel. ASUS’s optional-touch language does not establish that every UX3480 SKU has touch input, so verify the configuration before purchase.

How long does the battery last?

There is no single dependable runtime figure established across all UX3480 configurations in the available reviews. ASUS advertises “Up to 21+ hours of video playback” in its June 2026 product article. That is a manufacturer maximum for video playback, not an independent result for typical mixed use.

PCWorld characterizes battery life on its review unit as modest and notes a 50Wh battery, compared with a 70Wh battery in the Zenbook A14. Notebookcheck’s battery measurements require an additional qualification: its 512GB configuration showed an SSD-related power issue at review time, so the publication replaced the Samsung SSD with a Samsung 990 Pro for power and battery testing. It reported that the original SSD increased power use by around 3W, and that ASUS was aware of the issue and working on a fix at the time. This is a dated review finding, not proof that the issue remains unresolved.

Because the results involve different configurations and test setups, they do not support a guaranteed everyday runtime for every buyer. If battery endurance is your main priority, look for a test that matches the SKU and workload you plan to use.

Are the keyboard, trackpad, and fans comfortable?

Notebookcheck reports a backlit keyboard with 1.7mm of key travel. Windows Central criticizes the trackpad’s accuracy and actuation and notes fan noise under load. Those observations matter if you type for long stretches, rely heavily on gestures, or expect the machine to stay quiet during sustained demanding work. The review evidence supports no claim that every user will experience the same trackpad or fan behavior.

Does it have enough ports?

For a slim 14-inch laptop, the built-in selection is useful: two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, HDMI, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. PCWorld specifies USB-C 4 with DisplayPort support. Notebookcheck and the other reviews report Wi-Fi 6E; the sources do not identify Wi-Fi 7. For common external displays, wired accessories, and headphones, this selection can reduce the need to carry an adapter or hub, although your own peripherals determine whether it is sufficient.

Is the $799 Zenbook 14 worth buying?

It is most compelling if you want a light productivity laptop with an OLED screen and useful built-in ports, and your workload fits the Snapdragon model’s everyday strengths. The value becomes less convincing if the 8GB entry configuration is too tight for your multitasking, if you need more than 256GB of storage, or if you prioritize proven long battery life, a consistently precise trackpad, or quiet operation under load.

Compare the exact Zenbook configuration—not just the $799 starting price—with alternatives such as the Zenbook A14 or MacBook Neo. PCWorld positions the A14 as a more expensive option, while Windows Central frames the Zenbook against the $799 MacBook Neo. The available reviews do not establish a universal winner or a full, controlled head-to-head performance comparison. Check what each model actually includes for memory and storage, then weigh display type and glare, weight, battery-test conditions, built-in ports, and operating-system ecosystem against your needs.
