Its value is less convincing in the $799.99 base configuration, which has 8GB of RAM. For most buyers, the 16GB model is the safer choice—and the Zenbook A14 deserves a close look before you buy.
This verdict applies to the Snapdragon X Zenbook 14 UX3480QA. ASUS also announced a separate Intel Core Ultra 9 386H model, the UX3480AA, for early Q4 2026; its specifications and availability should not be assumed to match this reviewed laptop. Regional configurations can differ.

Is the ASUS Zenbook 14 worth buying?
Yes, if you want a portable 14-inch laptop for routine productivity, web browsing, video streaming, and similar everyday tasks—and you choose a suitable configuration at a competitive current price. Independent reviews found the Snapdragon X model capable for those workloads. It is a harder recommendation at the entry level because the base model pairs its price with only 8GB of memory, and the Zenbook A14 can offer a stronger combination of weight, battery life, and value.

That is a useful summary, but “affordable” does not make every configuration equally attractive: check the RAM, storage, and exact SKU before comparing listings.

Which Zenbook 14 configuration should you buy?
ASUS announced a US starting price of $799.99 and lists 8GB and 16GB memory options. Notebookcheck reported a $799 price for the 8GB/256GB base configuration and $999 for its 16GB/512GB review unit in its September 23, 2026 review. Those are reported prices, not a guarantee of current retailer pricing or stock.
| Configuration | Price reported | Practical consideration |
|---|---|---|
| 8GB RAM, 256GB storage | $799, as reported by Notebookcheck on September 23, 2026 | Lower entry price, but 8GB is a significant constraint for a laptop you may keep for several years or use with many apps and browser tabs. |
| 16GB RAM, 512GB storage | $999, as reported by Notebookcheck on September 23, 2026 | The configuration Notebookcheck reviewed; its recommendation was to choose 16GB where possible. |
The $200 difference in Notebookcheck’s cited prices buys both more memory and more storage. If you multitask, keep many tabs open, or want more headroom for future software, the 16GB model is the more sensible Zenbook 14 to consider. Compare its live price with competing laptops rather than treating the review’s September prices as current offers.

What are the screen and build like?
The tested UX3480QA’s OLED panel is a strong point for image quality: Notebookcheck reported deep blacks, rich and accurate colors, and fast response. Its measurements and specifications for that unit were 300 nits of brightness, a 60Hz refresh rate, and no HDR support. The brightness may be limiting in a brightly lit room or near windows, and 60Hz is a conventional rather than high-refresh rate.
ASUS lists the laptop at 2.87lb. That is portable for a 14-inch everyday machine, but TechRadar’s comparison lists the Zenbook A14 at 0.98kg and this Zenbook 14 at 1.10kg, making the A14 the lighter option in that comparison.

How fast is it for everyday work and gaming?
Notebookcheck found Snapdragon X performance sufficient for everyday use. TechRadar likewise reported strong basic productivity, multi-tab browsing, and 4K streaming. These reviews support using the laptop for common work and entertainment, not assuming it is a gaming machine.
In TechRadar’s Cyberpunk 2077 light-gaming test, performance was poor. If gaming performance is a priority, the Zenbook 14 is not the right choice based on that result. Notebookcheck also judged its everyday CPU performance roughly on par with the Wildcat Lake CPU in the XPS 13; in its comparison, Apple’s A18 Pro had higher single-core but lower multi-core performance.

How long does the battery last?
Battery figures depend heavily on the test method. TechRadar measured 12 hours and 15 minutes for the Zenbook 14 in its continuous movie-loop test. In the same test, the Zenbook A14 lasted more than 28 hours and the HP OmniBook 7 lasted 26 hours. These are results from TechRadar’s review units and test, not promises of real-world runtime for every user.

That manufacturer claim uses a different usage description from TechRadar’s movie-loop test, so the two figures should not be treated as directly comparable.

Is the Zenbook A14 a better buy?
It may be, depending on the exact model and price. Notebookcheck reported that a Zenbook A14 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage was listed at $870 on Amazon at the time of its review, and judged it a better price-performance option; the A14 also had a brighter HDR OLED in that comparison. TechRadar’s movie-loop result and weight comparison also favored the A14. Those findings make it the most relevant alternative to check before choosing the Zenbook 14.
Be careful to compare model years and configurations. ASUS announced a newer 2026 Zenbook A14 generation with Snapdragon X2 Elite; that is distinct from the 2024 A14 discussed in the cited comparisons. The A14’s reported $870 listing is a dated review-time price, not a current-price guarantee.
Quick Recap
What should you compare before buying?
- Exact SKU and live price: Confirm the model number and whether the listing is for 8GB/256GB or 16GB/512GB. ASUS identifies Best Buy as a US sales channel, but availability and retailer listings can change.
- Memory and storage: The 16GB/512GB model is the more practical Zenbook 14 configuration for buyers who want more multitasking headroom.
- Display needs: The tested 300-nit, 60Hz, non-HDR panel may not suit bright environments or buyers specifically seeking HDR or a high-refresh screen.
- Battery comparisons: Compare results from the same test method; manufacturer web-browsing claims and independent movie-loop tests measure different use.
- Workload: Everyday productivity and streaming are a better fit than demanding gaming, based on the cited reviews.
- Alternative model: Check which Zenbook A14 generation is being sold, then compare its configuration, panel, weight, battery evidence, and price against the UX3480QA.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
