Small black lines near the center of an ASUS VG279Q1A do not automatically mean the monitor needs replacing. A cable, computer, or monitor fault can produce display problems; the lines’ appearance alone cannot identify which one. Check whether they show in the monitor’s own menu, then test a known-good cable and another computer before deciding what to do.
What black lines on an ASUS VG279Q1A can tell you
A Windows 11 Forum post describes small lines near the center of the screen that were easier to see over bright red or yellow images. That description is useful for recognizing the symptom, but it is not a confirmed diagnosis or evidence that a repair was tested. ASUS lists lines among the display symptoms to troubleshoot, but the available guidance does not establish the cause of this particular monitor’s lines.

A line across multiple pixels is not necessarily the same issue as an isolated bright or dark dot. Do not assume the panel, graphics card, or any specific component has failed based on appearance alone.
Check whether the lines follow the monitor
1. Look at the monitor’s own menu
Photograph the lines so you can compare what changes during testing. Open the monitor’s on-screen menu, or check the display when no computer is actively supplying an image. If the lines also appear over the menu or no-signal screen, that is a useful clue that the symptom may not be limited to the computer’s image. It is an observation, not a definitive diagnosis.

2. Reseat the signal cable
Turn off the monitor and computer. Disconnect and firmly reconnect the HDMI or DisplayPort cable at both ends, checking that the connector is secure and that pins are not bent. ASUS recommends checking signal-cable connections and pins when troubleshooting lines and other display issues.
3. Try a known-good cable
Connect a suitable cable that you know works, matching the port in use. The VG279Q1A has HDMI and DisplayPort inputs; use the corresponding cable type. If the symptom disappears, the original cable or connection may have been involved. A replacement cable will not fix a persistent monitor hardware fault.

4. Compare another computer or display
Connect the VG279Q1A to another computer, or connect the current computer to another display. If the lines appear only with one computer, investigate that computer or its output connection. If they follow the VG279Q1A to another source, the monitor becomes more suspect. These comparisons help isolate the problem, but they do not identify a failed component.

When to contact ASUS or arrange service
If the lines remain after testing another suitable cable and another source, contact ASUS Customer Center or an authorized service location for diagnosis. Should you replace the monitor?
Not based on the lines alone. First see whether they remain with another source and cable, and ask ASUS or an authorized service provider to diagnose the monitor if they do. Decide between repair and replacement after you have a service assessment and know any applicable warranty coverage and repair cost. The available information does not establish this unit’s failure mode or whether a particular repair would work.
