Short answer: The ASUS TUF Gaming A14 FA401EA is the 2026 model that tests the “no discrete GPU” idea. It combines AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 392 processor with integrated Radeon 8060S graphics. That is a very different machine from the FA401GM, which pairs a Ryzen AI 9 465 with an NVIDIA RTX 5060 Laptop GPU.

That distinction matters before you compare prices, performance or listings. WIRED’s review presents the FA401EA as capable of discrete-GPU-like gaming, while Tom’s Guide’s March 30, 2026 review gives the same class of machine a more skeptical value framing. Neither conclusion, by itself, proves that the integrated model universally matches an RTX-equipped laptop.

There are two different 2026 TUF Gaming A14 laptops

“ASUS TUF Gaming A14 (2026)” is not a single specification. ASUS announced two configurations with different processors and graphics architectures. The FA401EA is the model relevant to the headline’s no-discrete-GPU premise; the FA401GM is a separate RTX-equipped design.

Do not treat a retailer page that simply says “A14 (2026)” as enough identification. The complete SKU, including the FA401EA or FA401GM code, is the minimum check. Regional names, memory configurations and stock can differ, so the country-specific ASUS listing and the retailer’s detailed specification should be checked immediately before ordering.

What the FA401EA is trying to do

The FA401EA places a high-end mobile processor and its integrated graphics engine in a gaming-laptop chassis instead of adding a separate graphics card. Its Ryzen AI Max+ 392 is paired with Radeon 8060S graphics on the same processor package. In practical terms, the machine’s gaming capability comes from that integrated Radeon design rather than from a discrete GPU with its own graphics memory.

That approach can make the internal layout simpler and can avoid the weight, power overhead and cost associated with a second graphics processor. It also changes how you should interpret specifications. A conventional gaming laptop advertises a discrete GPU model and dedicated VRAM; the FA401EA’s graphics are part of the processor platform, so system-memory capacity and configuration become especially important to investigate for the exact regional SKU.

ASUS’s announcement identifies the processor and Radeon 8060S pairing, but it does not establish a universal FA401EA memory capacity, upgrade path, price or release inventory for every market. Those details must be verified on the local product page rather than copied from the FA401GM specification.

What is different about the FA401GM

The FA401GM is not a version of the integrated model with a small optional graphics upgrade. It uses a different processor, the Ryzen AI 9 H 465, and adds an NVIDIA RTX 5060 Laptop GPU with 8 GB of GDDR7 memory in ASUS Canada’s technical specification.

ASUS says the RTX 5060 in this configuration can reach a maximum total graphics power of 115 W in Manual Mode. That is a manufacturer specification describing the FA401GM’s power limit; it is not an independently measured frame-rate result and it says nothing about the FA401EA’s Radeon 8060S performance.

  • FAST MEMORY AND STORAGE – Multitask quickly with unified 32GB of LPDDR5X 8000 quad-channel memory, and enjoy faster load times with a 1TB PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD.
  • QUAD-CHANNEL UNIFIED MEMORY DESIGN - The A14’s unified memory design dynamically allocates its quad-channel memory between system RAM and VRAM. This lets you boost graphics performance when gaming or prioritize memory for demanding creative and productivity workloads.
  • NEVER MISS A MOMENT – Keep up with the pros thanks to its 2.5K 165Hz display with 3ms response time
  • BLOW AWAY THE COMPETITION – High core count CPUs create more heat when at full load. The TUF Gaming A14 is equipped with a redesigned keyboard to increase airflow and reduce surface temperatures with an upgraded pair of 97-blade fans.

The same Canadian specification lists a maximum of 32 GB of onboard LPDDR5X memory and no memory expansion for the FA401GM. Because that limitation is tied to the FA401GM listing, do not assume that the FA401EA has the same capacity or serviceability without checking its own regional specification.

What the published reviews actually show

WIRED’s positive interpretation

WIRED’s coverage of the integrated-graphics A14 argues that AMD’s Max+ 392 and its Radeon graphics can recreate a discrete-GPU-like gaming experience. That is an editorial conclusion from WIRED’s review of the integrated model, not a universal equivalence claim. The available extract does not provide the complete benchmark table, test settings, games, resolution, power mode or a directly comparable FA401GM result.

You should therefore read WIRED’s conclusion as evidence that the FA401EA can be a serious gaming laptop despite lacking a separate graphics card, not as a promise that every new game will run like it does on an RTX 5060 laptop.

Tom’s Guide’s value caution

Tom’s Guide’s review, dated March 30, 2026, frames the Max+ 392 machine more critically on value. Its coverage describes the chip as having a 40-core GPU, but the available extract does not provide enough test methodology or measured data to independently settle the value comparison against the RTX-equipped A14 or other laptops.

The two reviews can disagree without either being invalid. One can emphasize the technical achievement of strong integrated graphics; the other can ask whether the asking price makes sense when a discrete-GPU alternative is available. Your decision depends on the local price, the exact FA401EA memory configuration and the games or applications you run.

How to judge gaming performance without invented frame-rate promises

No independently verified benchmark result or named benchmark statistic is established here. Until you have game-specific numbers from a test using the same configuration, use a decision process rather than a blanket “equals a discrete GPU” assumption.

  • IMMERSIVE VISUALS – The TUF Gaming F16’s FHD 144Hz display with 100% sRGB color draws you into the action. Adaptive-Sync technology reduces lag, minimizes stuttering, and eliminates visual tearing for ultra-smooth gameplay.
  • MILITARY GRADE DURABILITY – As a TUF gaming machine, the F16 has been rigorously tested to meet Military Grade testing standard, MIL-STD-810H. Rest easy knowing this laptop will operate at peak performance in harsh conditions.
  • EFFICIENT COOLING – Equipped with Arc Flow Fans, 4 exhaust vents, 5 dedicated heat pipes, and an anti-dust filter, the TUF Gaming F16 optimizes cooling performance without extra noise.
  1. Identify the exact SKU. Confirm that the listing says FA401EA if you want the integrated Radeon 8060S model. If it says FA401GM, you are looking at the RTX 5060 configuration.
  2. Record the test conditions. For any review or video, note the game, resolution, quality preset, upscaling setting, frame-generation setting, driver version, charger status and performance mode. Results from a plugged-in Turbo or Manual profile cannot be treated as battery results.
  3. Match the workload. Competitive games, older releases and well-optimized esports titles can behave very differently from a new, graphically demanding single-player game. A review that demonstrates smooth play in one category does not establish performance in every other category.
  4. Check sustained behavior. A short benchmark can show a high initial score while a long session exposes heat or power limits. Look for tests lasting long enough to reveal whether clocks, fan noise or frame rates change.
  5. Compare like for like. The FA401EA and FA401GM use different processors as well as different graphics designs. A fair comparison needs the same game, resolution, preset and power source, not just a headline GPU name.

If a review omits those details, treat its performance language as directional. The strongest supported conclusion is that the FA401EA is designed to deliver unusually capable integrated-graphics gaming, while the size of its advantage over ordinary integrated graphics or its value against the FA401GM depends on conditions that are not established in the available coverage.

Memory and upgradeability deserve special attention

Integrated graphics typically draw on the system’s memory pool rather than carrying a separate bank of graphics memory. That makes the exact memory configuration a buying decision, not a footnote. More capacity can leave room for the operating system and applications while the graphics engine is working, whereas a lower-capacity configuration can become restrictive sooner in demanding games or creative software.

For the FA401GM, ASUS Canada explicitly lists 32 GB maximum onboard LPDDR5X memory with no expansion. This means you must choose a capacity that will remain adequate for the laptop’s useful life; there is no memory-slot upgrade described by that specification.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The announcement evidence does not establish the FA401EA’s capacity options or whether its memory can be expanded. Ask the seller for the precise regional part number and confirm the memory type, installed capacity and service limitations before purchase. Do not transfer the FA401GM’s 32 GB ceiling to the FA401EA by assumption.

Power, heat and battery: what to verify in a full review

The only quantified power figure established in the available material is the FA401GM’s manufacturer-rated maximum of 115 W for the RTX 5060 in Manual Mode. It does not describe the FA401EA. Integrated graphics can change the balance between CPU and GPU power, but no measured FA401EA temperature, fan-noise, battery-life or sustained-performance figures are established here.

When evaluating a listing or review, look for these specific checks:

  • Surface and component temperatures after a long session, not only at startup.
  • Fan-noise measurements taken from a stated distance and workload.
  • Battery runtime under a named productivity or video workload, with screen brightness and refresh settings reported.
  • Whether the display’s refresh rate is actually driven by the game’s achieved frame rate.

Without those conditions, a claim such as “runs cool,” “quiet,” or “lasts all day” is too broad to apply confidently to every FA401EA region or configuration.

Display, chassis and everyday use

The supplied specifications establish the processor and graphics distinction, but they do not provide a complete, verified panel specification, weight, dimensions or port list for every regional FA401EA. Those details can vary by market and should be confirmed on the local ASUS page.

For a gaming purchase, check the panel’s native resolution, refresh rate, response-time behavior, brightness and color coverage. A high-refresh panel is most useful when the chosen games can produce enough frames to take advantage of it. For work, verify whether the panel’s color coverage and brightness meet your editing or office needs rather than inferring quality from the TUF branding alone.

Also confirm the keyboard layout, wireless standard, webcam specification, charger size and port selection on the exact listing. These are practical differences that a processor comparison cannot reveal, and regional configurations may not be identical.

Who should choose the FA401EA?

It makes sense when you value efficiency and portability

  • You want a gaming-capable 14-inch laptop without a separate graphics card.
  • You prefer the FA401EA’s processor-and-integrated-Radeon design and accept that performance depends on shared system resources.
  • Your games are varied enough that you are willing to tune resolution and quality settings instead of expecting a fixed desktop-class preset.
  • You can verify a sufficient memory configuration for your planned games and applications.
  • The local FA401EA price is meaningfully attractive relative to the FA401GM.

Choose the FA401GM instead when discrete graphics are the priority

  • You specifically need an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU and its 8 GB of GDDR7 graphics memory.
  • You want the manufacturer-stated option of up to 115 W GPU power in Manual Mode.
  • Your applications benefit from a discrete NVIDIA GPU and you do not want to rely on integrated graphics.
  • You are comfortable with the listed 32 GB maximum onboard LPDDR5X and the absence of memory expansion.

These are configuration decisions, not a ranking that applies at every price. If the FA401EA is priced close to the FA401GM in your market, the RTX model’s dedicated graphics may be the more straightforward choice. If the integrated model is substantially less expensive or better matches your portability priorities, its Radeon 8060S platform is the reason to consider it.

Buying checklist for the correct 2026 A14

  1. Read the full model code. Keep FA401EA and FA401GM separate in your notes, browser tabs and order confirmation.
  2. Confirm the processor and GPU line. FA401EA should identify Ryzen AI Max+ 392 with Radeon 8060S; FA401GM should identify Ryzen AI 9 H 465 with RTX 5060 Laptop graphics.
  3. Verify memory locally. Check installed capacity, maximum capacity and whether the memory is onboard. For FA401GM, ASUS Canada lists 32 GB maximum and no expansion.
  4. Check the price date and seller region. ASUS announced the models in 2026, but current inventory and pricing are market-specific and can change.
  5. Inspect the return policy. It gives you a way to resolve a listing that ships a different regional SKU or memory configuration than advertised.
  6. Compare total kit contents. Confirm the included charger and any regional warranty terms before treating two similarly named listings as equivalent.

Strengths and limitations

Strengths of the FA401EA concept

  • It brings a modern high-end AMD processor and Radeon 8060S integrated graphics to a gaming-laptop design.
  • It offers a credible alternative to assuming that every gaming laptop needs a separate graphics card.
  • WIRED’s review indicates that the platform can deliver a discrete-GPU-like gaming experience under its tested conditions.
  • The 14-inch format targets buyers who want gaming capability without moving to a larger chassis.

Limitations and unanswered buying questions

  • Complete FA401EA memory, upgradeability, price and availability information is not established across regions.
  • No independently verified benchmark table is available here to quantify frame rates against the FA401GM.
  • Review conclusions differ: WIRED emphasizes capability, while Tom’s Guide emphasizes value concerns.
  • The FA401GM’s 115 W figure, 32 GB ceiling and 50 TOPS NPU are specifications for that model and must not be presented as FA401EA features.

Verdict

The ASUS TUF Gaming A14 FA401EA is a legitimate “no discrete GPU” gaming-laptop experiment, not a GPU-less version of the RTX model. Its Ryzen AI Max+ 392 and integrated Radeon 8060S make it the configuration to investigate if you want strong gaming potential in a simpler 14-inch design. The evidence supports optimism, but not a universal claim that it matches every discrete GPU.

Buy it only after confirming the FA401EA SKU, local memory configuration, panel details and current price. If you need the most predictable discrete-graphics path, the FA401GM is the clearly different option, with an RTX 5060 Laptop GPU, 8 GB GDDR7 and ASUS’s stated 115 W Manual Mode ceiling. Your final choice should follow the exact games and applications you run, the price gap in your country and whether onboard memory limits are acceptable.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
