The ASUS RT-BE58 Go is a compact Wi-Fi 7 travel router built for hotel rooms, phone tethering and other small, temporary networks. Its strongest case is flexibility: it can get online through Ethernet, public Wi-Fi or USB tethering, and independent testing found strong speeds nearby. The trade-off is limited range and a pared-back layout: it is dual-band, has no 6 GHz radio, and offers only one LAN port.
What the RT-BE58 Go is—and who it suits
ASUS announced the RT-BE58 Go on August 5, 2025, positioning it as a portable Wi-Fi 7 router. At 99 × 111 × 36 mm and 232 g, with two external antennas, it is designed to pack easily rather than provide the broad coverage or wired expansion of a typical home router. ASUS notes that product specifications and availability may differ by country and change without notice (ASUS announcement).

It makes the most sense for travelers who want a personal network in a hotel room, need to share a phone’s mobile connection, or want a small router for a compact space. It is less compelling if your priority is reaching distant rooms, connecting several wired devices, or using 6 GHz Wi-Fi.

Wi-Fi bands, ports and hardware
The RT-BE58 Go is dual-band: it operates on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, not 6 GHz. ASUS lists theoretical maximum PHY rates of 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz. These are link-rate specifications, not expected internet speeds; actual performance depends on the client, distance, interference and connection.

| Specification | RT-BE58 Go |
|---|---|
| Wi-Fi bands | 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz; no 6 GHz |
| Maximum listed PHY rates | 688 Mbps (2.4 GHz); 2882 Mbps (5 GHz) |
| WAN | One 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port |
| LAN | One 1 Gbps Ethernet port |
| USB | USB-A for mobile tethering; USB-C for power |
| Processor and memory | 2 GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB DDR4 RAM, 256 MB flash |
| Dimensions and weight | 99 × 111 × 36 mm; 232 g |
The port roles matter: ASUS specifies the 2.5 Gbps jack as WAN and the 1 Gbps jack as LAN. The faster port is for the incoming connection, not a multi-gig LAN connection for a wired computer or storage device. The router has only one LAN jack, so multiple wired clients require additional equipment.
ASUS also lists dual-band MLO and 4K-QAM among the Wi-Fi 7 features. These capabilities do not make the router tri-band or add a 6 GHz radio. Detailed specifications are available on ASUS’s regional specifications page; check the listing for your country because configurations and availability can vary.

How fast is it in independent testing?
Tom’s Hardware tested the router using iPerf3, with clients at 6 feet and 25 feet. In that review’s setup, 5 GHz throughput measured 865 Mbps at 6 feet and 391 Mbps at 25 feet. On 2.4 GHz, it measured 88 Mbps at 6 feet and 37 Mbps at 25 feet. The reviewer also reported that congested traffic reduced 5 GHz results by 10–15 percent. Those are results from one reviewer’s conditions, not guaranteed speeds for every home, hotel or device (Tom’s Hardware review).
RTINGS likewise describes strong close-range performance but disappointing range. Together, the reviews suggest a useful distinction: this router can deliver fast Wi-Fi to nearby devices, but it is not a solution for covering a large home from one location. Compatible ASUS AiMesh equipment can extend a network, though that adds other hardware rather than changing the RT-BE58 Go’s own coverage (RTINGS review).

- 【VPN CASCADING AT EASE】Surpassing the mediocre performance of most VPN routers for home usage, the Beryl AX is capable of hosting a VPN server and VPN client at the same time within the same device, enabling users to remote access local network resources like Wi-Fi printers or local web servers, and accessing the public internet as a VPN client simultaneously.
Ways to get online while traveling
The router supports several internet inputs, so its value is not limited to plugging into a hotel Ethernet jack:
- Ethernet WAN: Connect an available wired internet connection to the 2.5 Gbps WAN port.
- Public Wi-Fi or WISP: Use a public wireless network as the upstream connection, then create a local network for your own devices.
- USB phone tethering: Connect a phone through USB-A to share its mobile data connection. Carrier terms, phone settings and mobile signal still determine whether this works well.
- USB modem: Tom’s Hardware reports using a USB modem as another connection option.
Tom’s Hardware also reports powering the router from a USB-C portable battery pack, making a power bank a possible option where mains power is inconvenient. ASUS’s Singapore store specifies USB-C 18W PD, but that is a market-specific listing; verify the power requirement and the battery’s output for the unit sold in your region before relying on a third-party pack (ASUS Singapore Store).

Software and extra features
ASUS advertises VPN features, AiProtection, Guest Network Pro and AiMesh integration, as well as a customizable switch. These features may be useful for managing a personal travel network, separating guest or IoT devices, or integrating the router with compatible ASUS equipment. They are vendor-listed capabilities, not evidence that every VPN service, configuration or AiMesh combination will suit every setup. Check the model’s regional documentation and the specific devices or services you plan to use.
Should you buy the ASUS RT-BE58 Go?
Consider it if portability, multiple ways to connect to the internet and strong nearby Wi-Fi matter more than whole-home reach. It is a particularly practical fit for a hotel room, a travel setup based on phone tethering, or a small personal network where one wired LAN port is enough.
Best Value
- Ultrafast WiFi 6 with 160 MHz channel significantly increases network capacity to support up to 70 devices, with speeds of up to 3,000 Mbps.
- Tri-mode connectivity for travel, work and home with 4G LTE and 5G mobile tethering and a private hotspot over public WiFi (WISP mode), with an easy toggle switch for quick connection mode switching.
- Comprehensive VPN features with one-touch activation, supporting multiple protocols, up to 30 service providers, and site-to-site VPN.
- Commercial-grade Triple-level Network Security with AiProtection, DNS over TLS for encrypted online privacy, plus a one-tap security scan and Safe Browsing.
- Easy and customizable guest portal for small businesses.
Compare other routers if you need 6 GHz, broader standalone coverage, more LAN connections or multi-gig Ethernet on the LAN side. The RT-BE58 Go’s appeal is not that it replaces a full-featured home router; it is that it combines travel-friendly size with useful connection options and Wi-Fi 7 close to the router.
