The ASUS ROG Strix XG32UQWMS pairs a 31.5-inch 4K Tandem WOLED panel with a second mode that raises refresh to 480Hz by dropping resolution to 1080p. That makes it a flexible gaming display, but the trade-off is central to the buying decision: use 4K/240Hz for detail, or 1080p/480Hz when competitive speed matters more than sharpness.
What the XG32UQWMS offers
ASUS lists a 31.5-inch viewable, 4K Tandem WOLED panel with a TrueBlack Glossy finish. Its headline feature is dual mode: 3840×2160 at up to 240Hz, or 1920×1080 at up to 480Hz. The latter is not 4K at 480Hz; it is a substantial resolution reduction in exchange for double the refresh rate. ASUS’s product overview positions the 4K mode for detailed games and the 1080p mode for fast-paced play.

Other specifications ASUS lists include 0.03ms GTG response time, G-SYNC compatibility, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4 with DSC, a USB hub, and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500. ASUS also specifies 99.5% DCI-P3, true 10-bit color, and Delta E below 2. These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that every unit or operating mode will produce identical measured results. ASUS’s overview also claims a three-year warranty; confirm the terms applicable in your country before buying.
Which mode makes sense for your games?
| Mode | Resolution and refresh | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| UHD | 3840×2160 at up to 240Hz | Single-player games, detailed scenes, and general desktop use | Requires more GPU performance than 1080p, especially at high frame rates |
| FHD | 1920×1080 at up to 480Hz | Competitive shooters and other play where refresh and motion responsiveness are priorities | Lower image detail on a 31.5-inch screen |
The 480Hz mode is most compelling if your games and PC can produce very high frame rates and you can perceive a benefit from that refresh range. At normal desktop distance, 1080p on a screen this large will look less crisp than native 4K, particularly with text and fine interface details. If you mainly play visually rich games or use the monitor for work, 4K/240Hz is likely to be the more useful everyday setting. The right choice depends on your games, GPU, viewing distance, and sensitivity to resolution.

Tom’s Hardware’s Christian Eberle described the monitor as among the quickest and smoothest 4K OLEDs tested in his review published 23 August 2026. Windows Central’s reviewer found 240Hz more than sufficient for their use, while recognizing that 480Hz has a role for highly competitive shooters. Those are reviewer assessments, not a promise that every player or system will experience the same advantage. Read the Tom’s Hardware review; see Windows Central’s hands-on review.
Brightness, HDR, and color: claims versus test results
ASUS says Tandem WOLED provides 15% higher peak brightness, 25% larger color volume, and 60% longer OLED lifespan compared with previous-generation WOLED panels. These are ASUS’s own comparative claims; they should not be read as independently verified results or as a lifespan guarantee for an individual display.

The HDR figures need context. ASUS lists VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500. PC Gamer’s July 2026 coverage reports a 330-nit full-screen brightness rating and a 1,500-nit HDR peak specification. Full-screen brightness and a peak measured or specified for a smaller bright area are different things, so the peak figure does not mean the whole screen sustains that brightness. PC Gamer’s review coverage also lists the response rating, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, USB hub, and adaptive-sync support.

Tom’s Hardware reported HDR peaks between 600 and 1,500 nits in its testing and more than 108% DCI-P3 coverage. Windows Central’s reviewer measured about 306–311 nits at maximum brightness in the default mode and around 99% DCI-P3, noting that adjustments might be needed to reach 330 nits. These are results from those review samples, not guaranteed readings for every mode or unit. DCI-P3 coverage is also not interchangeable with ASUS’s 99.5% gamut specification.

OLED care, reflections, and day-to-day use
ASUS’s OLED Care Pro includes a Neo Proximity Sensor that detects when the user leaves and transitions the screen to black. This can reduce exposure to static images while you are away and may help mitigate burn-in risk; it does not prevent OLED wear or guarantee that burn-in cannot occur.
Windows Central’s reviewer found desktop text clear at 4K and room reflections tolerable on the glossy surface. A glossy finish can still reflect windows, lamps, or bright objects, so consider your room lighting and placement. The product overview describes a compact stand, but the available details do not establish its full adjustment range, port counts, or confirmed mount compatibility. Check a complete specification sheet for your region if those details affect your setup.

Price and availability depend on region and date
Windows Central reported a planned US launch price of $899 in its 2026 launch coverage; that is launch context, not a live quote. Tom’s Hardware said in its 23 August 2026 review that buyers with $900 to spend on a 32-inch 4K OLED should consider the monitor among the best options at that time. That is a dated reviewer judgment, not a current ranking or price guarantee.

Who should consider it?
- Consider it if you want one OLED display for both high-detail 4K gaming and very high-refresh competitive play, and you are comfortable switching to 1080p for the 480Hz mode.
- Think carefully if you expect every game to run near 240 or 480 frames per second, need sharp 4K detail at all times, or play in a room where glossy reflections are difficult to control.
- Before paying a premium, verify your region’s current price and warranty, and confirm the connectivity, stand, and mounting details you need from the exact regional specification sheet.
On the evidence available, the XG32UQWMS’s strongest case is versatility: a fast 4K OLED mode alongside a genuinely higher-refresh 1080p option. Its value depends on whether you will use both sides of that trade-off and whether the current regional price is competitive.
