HotHardware found Silent mode genuinely quiet and responsive, while Performance and Turbo are audible; its video test ran 9 hours and 8 minutes with Dynamic graphics and Wi-Fi on. The review also reports cool operation during an F1 24 session above 200 FPS, but that is one publication’s test—not a guarantee for every game or unit.
How loud is the 2025 ROG Strix SCAR 18?
In HotHardware’s May 7, 2025 review of the G835 generation, Zak Killian found the laptop completely silent in Silent mode, with enough responsiveness for lighter use. He wrote: “Just like with the ROG Flow Z13 that we reviewed awhile back, this system remains completely silent in Silent mode, and yet it’s still surprisingly quick.”

Performance mode and especially Turbo make the fans audible. The review does not describe the sound as shrill or generally bothersome, and says the built-in speakers can still be heard over it. For gaming, headphones may make the experience more comfortable if fan noise is distracting. The review does not provide measured decibel levels, so its description is a listening impression rather than a noise benchmark. Read HotHardware’s noise and thermal discussion.

Does it stay cool under gaming load?
HotHardware reports that the SCAR 18 stayed cool while running F1 24 at more than 200 FPS. The reviewer credits ASUS’s thermal design and Thermal Grizzly liquid metal thermal interface material. This describes that review’s test conditions; it does not establish temperatures for other games, ambient conditions, power modes, or individual units, nor does it prove the laptop never throttles.

What battery life did the review measure?
HotHardware’s video playback test lasted 9 hours and 8 minutes with Dynamic graphics mode enabled and Wi-Fi connected. Dynamic mode switches between integrated and discrete graphics. This is a result from the review’s particular test and settings, not a general runtime promise; real endurance varies with workload, brightness, power profile, wireless use, and configuration. The review separately reports about 90 minutes in its battery gaming test. Its author also gives an anecdotal estimate of four to five hours for office use, which is not the same controlled video result. HotHardware details its battery testing here.

There is no universal gaming winner implied by the review: in CPU-limited games, a laptop with an AMD 3D V-Cache processor may perform better. Compare the CPU and GPU in the exact configurations available to you against the games or applications you actually use. The precise RTX 5090 configuration reviewed was a Micro Center exclusive; HotHardware noted similar configurations were available on Amazon, not that the tested SKU itself was listed there. Availability and pricing can change, so verify the retailer listing, region, GPU, memory, storage, and operating system before buying.

- Noise: Silent, Performance, and Turbo behavior matters if you game without headphones or work in a quiet room.
- Battery: Compare results from the workload and graphics mode you expect to use, rather than relying on a single video-playback figure.
- Performance: Check both GPU and CPU for your games or creative applications, especially where a game is CPU-limited.
- Display: Consider resolution, refresh rate, HDR and Mini LED features alongside the content you play or create.
- Price and availability: Retailer stock and SKU contents vary; confirm the exact GPU, RAM, storage, and operating system.
- Upgradeability: The review identifies upgrade access as a strength, but verify the options and service implications for the specific configuration and region.
