ASUS ROG Strix GS-BE18000: Key Facts for Gaming and Multigig Homes

The ASUS ROG Strix GS-BE18000 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router best suited to homes that can use its eight 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports and have compatible Wi-Fi 7 devices. Its advertised BE18000 rating is a combined maximum across three bands—not the speed one device or internet connection should expect. Independent results from Tom’s Guide show high throughput at shorter distances in its test, but also illustrate how walls and distance can limit coverage.

What the GS-BE18000 offers

ASUS lists the GS-BE18000 as a Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) router with three radio bands. Its rated maximums are 688 Mbps on 2.4GHz, 5,764 Mbps on 5GHz, and 11,529 Mbps on 6GHz. Added together, those figures account for the BE18000 class label; they are theoretical band capacities, not a promise that a single client will receive 18Gbps or that an internet plan will run at that rate. The radio configuration is 2×2 on 2.4GHz and 4×4 on both 5GHz and 6GHz. ASUS also specifies eight internal antennas, a 2.0GHz quad-core processor, 2GB DDR4 memory, and 256MB flash. It supports IPv4 and IPv6 and lists backward compatibility with older Wi-Fi standards. ASUS technical specifications

Wi-Fi 7 capabilities depend on the client

The router supports 320MHz channels on 6GHz and 4096-QAM. These features can enable higher link rates when the client device supports them and radio conditions allow. A Wi-Fi 7 router does not make an older phone, laptop, or console a Wi-Fi 7 client; actual performance also depends on distance, interference, walls, and the capabilities of the connected device. Local 6GHz rules affect which channels and features are available.

  • ROG-exclusive Gaming Network streamlines Triple-Level Game Acceleration setup and connections through convenient SSIDs

Eight 2.5Gbps ports are the standout wired feature

ASUS specifies one 2.5Gbps WAN port and seven 2.5Gbps LAN ports, plus one USB 3.2 Gen 1 port. That is a total of eight multigigabit Ethernet ports, but none is specified as 10GbE. This layout is useful if a home has several wired devices—such as a gaming PC, console, network storage, or multigigabit switches—and the devices and internet service can make use of connections faster than 1Gbps. ASUS technical specifications

ASUS’s June 5, 2025 launch announcement described “up to 20 G of wired capacity” and “two dedicated gaming ports.” Those are vendor-stated maximum-capability and marketing claims, not a measured 20Gbps transfer to one device. The published port specification is the more practical guide to what can be plugged in: one 2.5Gbps WAN and seven 2.5Gbps LAN connections. ASUS Republic of Gamers announcement

How fast is it in independent testing?

Tom’s Guide’s 2026 Wi-Fi 7 router roundup reported these GS-BE18000 throughput results at measured distances:

Distance Throughput reported by Tom’s Guide
15 feet 2.354 Gbps
50 feet 1.354 Gbps
75 feet 900.8 Mbps
90 feet 40.9 Mbps

These are results from Tom’s Guide’s specific test, not guaranteed speeds for other homes, clients, or internet plans. The steep decline at the longest distance is a reminder that rated aggregate capacity does not remove the effects of range and obstructions. In its account of two weeks of use, Tom’s Guide characterized performance as fast and reliable but reported a couple of dead zones across walled spaces such as an attic and basement. Will one router cover your home?

Coverage depends on the building, router placement, interference, and where clients are used. RTINGS describes the GS-BE18000 as a strong fit for apartments and small homes, citing speed and range, while noting its somewhat bulky design and gamer-oriented appearance. Tom’s Guide’s reported dead zones in walled spaces show why neither a large home nor a multistory layout should be assumed covered based on a speed rating alone. RTINGS review Tom’s Guide roundup

ASUS lists the unit for router/AiMesh router, AiMesh node, access point, repeater, and media bridge operation. AiMesh support gives owners an expansion path with compatible ASUS mesh equipment, but the required placement and performance depend on the home. A wired backhaul may be preferable where Ethernet is available; otherwise, a wireless mesh link also uses radio capacity. ASUS technical specifications

RTINGS notes that Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) can raise permitted 6GHz power and extend effective range where it is supported. Availability is not universal: RTINGS said ASUS had not made AFC available in Canada as of March 2026. Check local availability rather than assuming the feature is active in every country. Gaming controls: useful, but not a substitute for a good connection

ASUS advertises triple-level game acceleration, mobile game mode, and two dedicated gaming ports. These are prioritization and convenience features; they cannot increase the capacity of a slow ISP connection, eliminate wireless interference, or fix a poor signal between the router and a device. Their practical value depends on how your devices connect and whether congestion or competing traffic is actually affecting latency. ASUS ROG product page

The router also lists network security and VPN features. The product page establishes that ASUS markets these functions, but their exact availability and behavior can depend on firmware, configuration, and region. Review the current local product documentation before relying on a particular feature. ASUS ROG product page

Price and value depend on your region

Prices in the available sources are dated observations, not a current global quote. ASUS’s UK page displayed £349.99 when accessed for the October 2026 specification check. Tom’s Guide reported a $450 list price and a $400 Best Buy offer in its 2026 review. Check the seller’s current price, stock, warranty, and return terms in your country before deciding. Who should consider the GS-BE18000?

  • Consider it if you need many faster-than-gigabit wired connections, have Wi-Fi 7 clients or plan to add them, and value ASUS gaming controls.
  • Look elsewhere if your main requirement is 10GbE: the GS-BE18000 has eight 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports, not 10GbE ports. The comparison cited by RTINGS notes that ASUS’s RT-BE96U has two 10Gbps ports, so compare port needs rather than port count alone. RTINGS comparison
  • Plan for mesh or an access point if your floor plan has distant rooms, thick walls, or multiple levels; a single router’s nominal rating cannot guarantee coverage in those locations.
  • Check local feature support and price before purchase, especially if AFC or a particular gaming or VPN function matters to you.
