Asus ROG Phone 10 Pro: release date, price, specs, and what happened

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

There is no retail Asus ROG Phone 10 Pro. Reports indicate that ASUS developed an ROG Phone 10 series prototype, reportedly codenamed “Boston,” but shelved it before launch. ASUS has not published a Phone 10 Pro product page, price, release date, or final specification sheet. ASUS also said it had no plans to introduce new smartphone models during 2026, although support for existing phones would continue.

Was the ROG Phone 10 Pro officially released?

No. The ROG Phone 10 Pro was not announced as a consumer product and cannot be bought through an official ASUS launch. Leaked engineering firmware reportedly identified an ROG Phone 10 and ROG Phone 10 Pro, which shows that the devices were genuine development projects, but a firmware leak does not prove that a phone completed certification, entered production, or went on sale. Android Authority reported the leaked firmware, while ASUS’s official materials identify the ROG Phone 9 series as its latest announced ROG flagship generation.

Search databases can still display an “upcoming” handset. Those pages are not evidence of availability unless ASUS, an authorized retailer, a regulatory filing, or another direct primary source confirms the product.

What happened to the ROG Phone 10 series?

  1. January 7, 2025: ASUS announced the ROG Phone 9 series. ASUS’s launch release contains the official announcement.
  2. 2025: ASUS did not announce a new ROG Phone generation.
  3. January 2026: ASUS said it had no plans to introduce new smartphone models during 2026. Reporting on the statement also said maintenance, software updates, and warranty service for existing devices would continue. See Heise’s summary.
  4. 2026 leak reports: Specialist coverage described engineering firmware for the planned Phone 10 series and reported that the project had been shelved as ASUS changed its smartphone strategy. Notebookcheck identified the “Boston” codename and AI2601 identifier.

The evidence supports calling the Phone 10 project reportedly shelved or canceled. It does not establish that ASUS can never return to phones. Reports have described an indefinite hiatus, while ASUS’s explicit near-term position concerns the 2026 launch plan.

Leaked prototype specifications

The following details come from engineering firmware and specialist reporting, not an ASUS consumer specification sheet. They describe what was reportedly planned and should not be treated as final hardware.

Item Reported detail Confidence and limitation
Project status ROG Phone 10 and 10 Pro prototypes Reported from leaked firmware; no retail launch followed.
Internal codename “Boston” Reported leak detail, not a retail name.
Model identifier AI2601 Reported prototype identifier; it is not proof of a shipping SKU.
Processor platform Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Reported target platform; ASUS never confirmed a final processor.
Rear cameras Triple-camera system Reported layout only; sensors and image processing were not confirmed.
Wireless networking Wi-Fi 7 Reported firmware evidence, not an official retail specification.

No reliable final information exists for RAM or storage tiers, display dimensions or refresh modes, brightness, touch sampling, battery capacity, charging, camera sensors, Android launch version, IP rating, carrier bands, accessories, or a rear AniMe Vision display. The Pro model’s exact differences from the base Phone 10 were never published.

ROG Phone 10 Pro price and release date

There is no official price and no confirmed release date. A Smartprix page gives an expected date of December 12, 2026, but that is a third-party estimate, not an ASUS announcement, and it conflicts with ASUS’s stated lack of new smartphone plans for 2026. Treat that listing as an example of search-result speculation, not a pre-order opportunity: Smartprix’s Phone 10 Pro page.

Likewise, a price-list entry or a video titled “official trailer” cannot establish launch status. Database records may be created from expected naming conventions, rumors, or unfinished pre-release information.

The latest confirmed model: ROG Phone 9 Pro

The latest officially announced ROG Pro handset in ASUS’s materials is the ROG Phone 9 Pro, announced on January 7, 2025. ASUS’s U.S. launch information listed these launch MSRPs:

Configuration U.S. launch MSRP Qualification
ROG Phone 9 Pro, 16GB RAM/512GB storage $1,199.99 Launch MSRP; not a verified August 2026 street price.
ROG Phone 9 Pro Edition, 24GB RAM/1TB storage $1,499.99 Launch MSRP; current stock and pricing vary by region.

According to ASUS’s specification page, the phone includes:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Mobile Platform.
  • Android 15 listed on the specification page.
  • 6.78-inch FHD+ Samsung flexible AMOLED display.
  • LTPO operation from 1–120Hz, up to 165Hz in system settings and 185Hz in Game Genie.
  • Up to 2,500 nits peak brightness.
  • IP68 water and dust resistance.
  • 227g listed weight.
  • 16GB/512GB and 24GB/1TB configurations in ASUS materials.

Its AirTriggers, gaming software and accessory ecosystem are real product features, but the Phone 9 Pro is not the same device as the unreleased Phone 10 Pro and should not be presented as an official replacement.

Should you buy a ROG Phone 9 Pro?

Buy now when gaming hardware is the priority

The Phone 9 Pro is the practical ASUS choice if you need a confirmed gaming phone with high-refresh display modes, dedicated controls, active-cooling support and published specifications. Independent thermal and frame-rate testing is still more useful than a chipset name alone, especially for long sessions.

Wait only if you accept indefinite uncertainty

There is no known Phone 10 Pro launch date. Waiting makes sense only if you are comfortable with the possibility that no new ROG Phone arrives, rather than expecting a scheduled upgrade.

Budget for cooling and accessories

ASUS listed a U.S. MSRP of $119.99 for the AeroActive Cooler X Pro and $99.99 for the AeroActive Cooler X in its ROG Phone 9 launch material. Those are accessory launch MSRPs, not current prices. Confirm compatibility with the exact phone and regional SKU before buying; a cooler adds cost and bulk.

Check software support and warranty

ASUS’s smartphone pause does not mean existing phones immediately lose updates or warranty service. The company’s reported clarification said maintenance, software upgrades and warranty services for existing products would continue. Verify the current policy for your regional model before purchase, because future upgrade options and accessory supply are less predictable than they were when the Phone 9 launched.

Be careful with imported units

For a global or Asian-market ROG Phone 9 Pro sold to a U.S. buyer, confirm the exact model number, cellular-band support, charger and plug, warranty eligibility, regional software behavior, return policy and seller authorization. An imported unit is not automatically equivalent to the U.S. SKU.

How to evaluate other gaming phones

If the Phone 9 Pro is unavailable or poor value, compare current phones using criteria that matter in actual play rather than relying on the nonexistent Phone 10 Pro as a benchmark:

  • Sustained performance: seek independent temperature, throttling and frame-rate tests.
  • Controls: hardware triggers and gaming overlays can matter more than a small benchmark difference.
  • Display behavior: high refresh rates improve responsiveness but consume more power and may not work in every game.
  • Software support: check the manufacturer’s policy for the exact regional model.
  • Everyday use: gaming phones commonly prioritize cooling, speakers, battery and controls over camera consistency or compact size.
  • Total ownership cost: include coolers, cases, chargers, shipping and warranty risk.

How to read ROG Phone 10 Pro listings

Use a simple verification test before trusting a page:

  1. Look for an ASUS press release or product page naming the model.
  2. Check whether an authorized retailer actually lists stock and a purchase option.
  3. Separate “expected,” “rumored” or “upcoming” labels from confirmed specifications.
  4. Require a primary source for any exact price, release date, RAM tier or carrier claim.
  5. Remember that a leak about the ROG Phone 10 does not automatically prove the Pro model had identical hardware.

Bottom line

The Asus ROG Phone 10 Pro refers to a reportedly developed but shelved project, not a phone you can buy. Its leaked Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, triple-camera and Wi-Fi 7 details are prototype information, not final specifications. ASUS has not announced a retail successor and said no new smartphone models were planned for 2026. The ROG Phone 9 Pro is the latest confirmed ROG Pro model; choose it only after checking current price, stock, support, warranty and the cost of accessories.
