ASUS announced the ProArt Display OLED PA27USD on May 11, 2026. It is a 26.5-inch (27-inch-class) 4K QD-OLED monitor with a 240Hz panel and one integrated 12G-SDI input. ASUS says the SDI connection accepts compatible signals up to 4K/60Hz, making the display unusually flexible for editors, colorists, VFX artists and DITs. It is best understood as a creator-focused professional display with native SDI—not automatically as a mastering-grade broadcast reference monitor.
What ASUS announced
The PA27USD is part of ASUS’s new ProArt OLED line announced alongside the larger PA32USD. ASUS announced both models on May 11, 2026, and said they would become available in May. The PA27USD has one 12G-SDI input; the PA32USD has two. ASUS’s U.S. store listed the PA27USD at $2,199 in the August 2026 pricing snapshot.

ASUS positions the monitor for production, post-production, color grading, editing, VFX and on-set work. The announcement is about a new model, not an SDI upgrade to an older, already-shipping PA27USD. Published specifications describe SDI reception only; they do not list an SDI output or loop-through.

Why the SDI input matters
Serial Digital Interface (SDI) is a professional video-transport standard used by cameras, routers, broadcast systems, capture cards and playback hardware. Its locking BNC connector is less prone to accidental disconnection than a typical consumer video plug, and SDI is designed for reliable transmission over production-length cable runs. The signal is digital and uncompressed at the interface, although the quality of the complete chain still depends on the source, cable, connectors and receiving equipment.
ASUS says the PA27USD’s 12G-SDI input supports video up to 4K/60Hz and is compatible with 6G-SDI and 3G-SDI Level A and Level B signals. A camera, capture card or SDI playback device can therefore feed the monitor directly, avoiding a separate SDI-to-HDMI converter for that connection.
What one SDI input changes in practice
- DIT and on-set work: A camera or production device with SDI output can connect directly, and ASUS includes a smaller stand option and monitor hood that may be useful in a compact setup.
- Post-production: A workstation can use HDMI, DisplayPort or Thunderbolt for its desktop while a video-I/O device sends a dedicated SDI monitoring feed.
- Color and editorial review: SDI can provide a production-style signal path for checking playback without routing everything through the computer’s ordinary desktop output.
- Multi-source environments: One input is limiting if several SDI sources must be switched frequently; an external router, converter or additional I/O hardware may still be required.
SDI is not interchangeable with HDMI. A device that outputs only HDMI needs a suitable converter, and 12G-SDI compatibility still depends on the source format, frame rate, cable and equipment configuration.

Do not confuse 240Hz with 4K/240Hz SDI
The 240Hz figure describes the display panel’s maximum refresh capability. ASUS’s stated SDI limit is up to 4K/60Hz. The high refresh rate can make desktop work, game-engine content and fast-footage review feel smoother, but it does not mean a 12G-SDI source can deliver 4K/120Hz or 4K/240Hz to this monitor.
Calibration and HDR features
The built-in motorized colorimeter folds into the monitor and deploys for calibration. ASUS also supports hardware calibration, Calman workflows and ColourSpace integration. Hardware calibration can store correction data in the display rather than relying only on an operating-system ICC profile, which is convenient for repeatable desktop work.

- Calman Verified & Delta E < 2 Accuracy: Achieve true-to-life precision right out of the box for professional photo editing with color accurate monitoring capabilities
- 100% sRGB & 100% Rec. 709 Color Gamut: Ensure your creative projects match industry standards for vibrant digital media with comprehensive color coverage for video editing and content creation
- 27-inch WQHD IPS Display: Enjoy crystal-clear details with 2560 x 1440 resolution for graphic design and video editing workflows with wide viewing angles and consistent color reproduction
- ASUS ProArt Preset & Palette: Easily customize color, brightness, and black-levels to match your exact project needs with versatile display settings for professional applications
- Extensive Connectivity & USB Hub: Seamlessly connect your laptop, desktop, and storage devices with DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D, and Mini DP ports plus integrated USB hub for a clutter-free desk setup
That convenience does not prove the internal sensor matches every external colorimeter or spectroradiometer. Facilities matching several displays or validating a critical HDR pipeline may still prefer a separately verified instrument. Calibration is also mode-dependent: SDR, HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision and wide-gamut workflows can require separate targets and validation.
Is it a broadcast reference monitor?
Not by virtue of the SDI connector alone. The PA27USD occupies a middle ground between a high-end creator/gaming display and a production monitor with direct video connectivity. Its QD-OLED panel, HDR formats, integrated calibration and SDI input are attractive for previewing and editorial work, but the published material does not establish the complete feature set or validation associated with a mastering reference monitor.
Important distinctions
- Professional connectivity: Native SDI simplifies compatible camera and video-I/O connections.
- Reference functions: ASUS does not list a complete waveform and vectorscope system, extensive 3D-LUT management, advanced SDI status tools or reference-monitor-grade uniformity specifications in the supplied product information.
- OLED behavior: Static timelines, channel bugs and editing interfaces can create image-retention or burn-in exposure over time. ASUS’s published material does not quantify long-term retention performance.
- Independent validation: ASUS’s brightness, gamut, response-time and Delta E figures are manufacturer claims. They should not be treated as measurements proving equivalence to Sony BVM or EIZO CG reference hardware.
For critical mastering, facilities should verify black level, near-black detail, uniformity, HDR tracking, calibration repeatability and signal-lock behavior on their own equipment and formats.

Who should consider it
Editors, colorists and VFX artists
The combination of 4K resolution, 10-bit color, HDR support, Thunderbolt docking and hardware calibration suits a workstation that must handle both creative applications and a dedicated video feed. SDI is most useful when the edit or grading system already includes an SDI-capable capture or playback device.
DITs and on-set crews
Direct SDI avoids one conversion step, while the hood and compact stand option can help in a portable setup. Before using it in the field, check power, physical protection, viewing conditions and the exact camera output format; a desktop OLED is not automatically a rugged field monitor.

Game development and mixed-use creators
240Hz, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1 and OLED contrast make the PA27USD suitable for game-engine review and general high-refresh use as well as video work. That flexibility is a major part of its value, but it also means the product is not optimized solely for broadcast monitoring.

Users without SDI equipment
If every source is HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C/Thunderbolt, the PA27USD’s defining premium may go unused. ASUS’s PA27UCDMR offers a similar 27-inch-class 4K QD-OLED creator concept without a listed SDI input and was listed at $1,299 in ASUS’s U.S. comparison pages.

Buying checklist
- Confirm that your camera, capture card or router outputs a supported 3G-, 6G- or 12G-SDI format.
- Budget for an external converter or router if your sources are HDMI-only or you need multiple SDI feeds.
- Do not assume SDI output, loop-through or 4K/120-plus SDI; ASUS’s published specifications do not list them.
- Check that your computer supports the required HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1 or Thunderbolt 4 connection.
- Plan separate calibration targets for SDR and HDR modes, and validate shadow detail and uniformity if the monitor will be used for grading.
- Consider OLED protection and retention management if static interface elements remain on screen for long periods.
Tom’s Hardware has also published an independent PA27USD review, but the available summary does not establish measured brightness, uniformity, input lag or retention results; those details should be checked directly before relying on them for a purchasing decision.
