Verdict: The ASUS ProArt Display PA278CFRV is a well-equipped 27-inch QHD monitor for photographers, designers, editors, developers and laptop users who value factory color calibration, 100 Hz operation and one-cable USB-C connectivity. ASUS rates it at Delta E below 2, 100% sRGB and 95% DCI-P3, with up to 96 W Power Delivery. Those are attractive mainstream creator features, but this is not a 4K/5K detail monitor, an Adobe RGB specialist or a professional HDR reference display.
What the PA278CFRV is
The PA278CFRV uses a 27-inch flat IPS panel with a 2560×1440 QHD (also called WQHD) resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. ASUS specifies refresh rates up to 100 Hz with variable-refresh-rate support. Its LuxPixel anti-glare, low-reflection finish is intended to reduce distracting reflections in bright rooms. The monitor includes ProArt color presets, an adjustable stand and VESA 100×100 mm mounting.

ASUS positions it as a creator and productivity display rather than a gaming-first model. The combination of QHD workspace, broad sRGB/DCI-P3 coverage, USB-C connectivity and ergonomic adjustment is its central appeal.

Color accuracy: useful, but not “perfect”
ASUS says each display is factory calibrated to Delta E below 2 and is Calman Verified. That indicates a serious out-of-box color target, but it is still a manufacturer-supplied figure, not an independent measurement of every retail unit. Panels vary, calibration changes with age and temperature, and ambient light and operating-system profiles affect what you see.
#1 Best Overall
- Calman Verified & Delta E < 2 Accuracy: Achieve true-to-life precision right out of the box for professional photo editing with color accurate monitoring capabilities
- 100% sRGB & 100% Rec. 709 Color Gamut: Ensure your creative projects match industry standards for vibrant digital media with comprehensive color coverage for video editing and content creation
- 27-inch WQHD IPS Display: Enjoy crystal-clear details with 2560 x 1440 resolution for graphic design and video editing workflows with wide viewing angles and consistent color reproduction
- ASUS ProArt Preset & Palette: Easily customize color, brightness, and black-levels to match your exact project needs with versatile display settings for professional applications
- Extensive Connectivity & USB Hub: Seamlessly connect your laptop, desktop, and storage devices with DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D, and Mini DP ports plus integrated USB hub for a clutter-free desk setup
The 100% sRGB coverage suits web graphics, user-interface work and general digital content. The claimed 95% DCI-P3 coverage is a useful wide-gamut figure for many video and design workflows, but it is not 100% DCI-P3 and does not establish Adobe RGB coverage. Wide-gamut output can look oversaturated in applications that do not manage color.
For repeatable work, use the appropriate preset and profile, then calibrate with a hardware colorimeter under stable lighting. Print matching additionally requires printer and paper ICC profiles and soft-proofing; monitor gamut alone cannot guarantee a paper match.
Practical color-mode choices
- Web and UI: Use the sRGB mode or a color-managed application.
- Photography: Calibrate regularly and keep room lighting consistent.
- Video: Match Rec. 709 or DCI-P3 mode to the delivery specification.
- Print: Confirm the actual Adobe RGB needs of the workflow and soft-proof with printer and paper profiles.
Is QHD sharp enough at 27 inches?
QHD gives applications such as Photoshop, Lightroom, Capture One, video editors and code editors useful room without the scaling and graphics load of 4K. It is also easier for a laptop GPU to drive at 100 Hz. Text and ordinary photographs look clear at normal desk distance.

- Calman Verified Delta E < 2 & 100% sRGB: Ensure true-to-life colors for professional creative artwork with this highly accurate photo editing monitor and graphic design display
- USB-C Port with 65W Power Delivery: Declutter your desk by charging your laptop and transferring data via a single cable on this versatile USB-C monitor for Mac and PC
- 27-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS Panel: Enjoy a sharp, spacious workspace for multitasking and detailed video editing on this stunning 27 inch 1440p computer monitor

The trade-off is pixel density. Fine type, interface lines and high-resolution photographs are visibly sharper on a 27-inch 4K or 5K panel. Choose a higher-resolution display if you inspect very detailed images at native size, need maximum desktop density or routinely edit UHD footage on a pixel-matched canvas. Calling the PA278CFRV “4K” would be incorrect.
USB-C: convenient single-cable setup, not a complete dock
With a compatible laptop and full-featured USB-C cable, one connection can carry DisplayPort video, USB data, audio and up to 96 W of charging while exposing the monitor’s USB hub. The computer must support USB-C DisplayPort Alternate Mode or a compatible Thunderbolt connection; a charging-only USB-C cable will not carry video.
Actual charging depends on the laptop’s requirements and the USB-C power profile it negotiates. A high-power workstation may still need its original charger. The hub also does not automatically provide Ethernet, an SD-card reader, Thunderbolt expansion or the peripheral-management features of a dedicated dock.

- Professional Color Gamut: Wide 95% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB gamut to meet international color standards for accurate color reproduction

- Intelligent Color Adjustment: ASUS Light Sync solution with Ambient Light Sensor automatically adjusts the monitor's color gamut based on ambient lighting for true colors in any environment
DisplayPort-out/MST enables daisy chaining, but the computer, operating system, GPU, cables and downstream display must all support the required mode. Check those limits before planning a multi-monitor installation.

Photography
It is a strong general-purpose choice for web photography and normal photo editing because of the factory calibration, sRGB coverage, DCI-P3 gamut and adjustable stand. Print specialists, users requiring proven Adobe RGB coverage or photographers who need maximum pixel-level inspection should consider a different panel and plan for instrument calibration.
Graphic and UI design
QHD provides a comfortable canvas for illustration, layouts and interface design. sRGB and DCI-P3 presets help when deliverables target different color spaces, provided the applications are color managed.

Video editing
The 27-inch workspace, 95% DCI-P3 claim, Rec. 709/DCI-P3 modes and 100 Hz interface smoothness suit SDR editing and general content production. QHD is not a native 4K editing canvas, and DisplayHDR 400 compatibility should not be confused with the brightness, local dimming and black-level control expected for professional HDR mastering.
Coding and productivity
QHD at 27 inches offers a practical balance of readable text, side-by-side windows and modest GPU demand. USB-C charging and the adjustable stand are particularly useful for laptop desks.

100 Hz and VRR are meaningful improvements over a conventional 60 Hz creator monitor, and QHD at that refresh rate is easier to drive than 4K. It remains a creator display: without independent measurements of input lag, response-time tuning, ghosting and VRR range, competitive gamers should choose a purpose-built high-refresh model instead.

HDR expectations
HDR10 support and DisplayHDR 400 compatibility allow HDR signals, but the label alone does not establish strong sustained brightness, local dimming, deep blacks or grading accuracy. Treat HDR as a useful secondary feature for compatible content, not as proof that the PA278CFRV is an HDR reference monitor.

Price and availability
A captured ASUS USA store listing dated August 16, 2026 showed $329.00 and “Notify me,” rather than immediate availability: check the ASUS buying page before purchasing. At that snapshot, its value proposition was the combination of QHD, factory calibration, 100 Hz, ergonomic adjustment and 96 W USB-C—not the highest resolution or a full docking station.
