ASUS ExpertBook P5 G2: What Intel Gains—and Gives Up to AMD

The Intel ASUS ExpertBook P5605CAA offers Thunderbolt 4 and ran longer in Notebookcheck’s Wi-Fi web-surfing test than the AMD ExpertBook PM5 G2 it compared against. The AMD system, however, scored higher in the review’s sustained multi-core benchmark. Those are results from two specific configurations, not a guarantee that every Intel P5 G2 lasts longer or every AMD version is faster.

Notebookcheck tested the Intel P5605CAA-XS76 with a Core Ultra 7 356H, 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory, 1 TB of storage, a 16-inch 2560 × 1600 144 Hz IPS display, and a 63 Wh battery. Its AMD comparison unit used a Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 and a 70 Wh battery. Check the full SKU and local specifications before treating either result as representative of a model you can buy.

What the Intel ExpertBook P5 G2 review found

The Intel model is the better fit to investigate if you need Thunderbolt 4 docking or value the runtime Notebookcheck measured. The AMD comparison system is the stronger of the two in the cited multi-thread test. The review also describes the Intel sample as more efficient and quieter, but those observations apply to the units tested.

Notebookcheck’s review was published in 2026. Its benchmark section used Performance mode in Windows and MyASUS. The available results do not establish a universal Intel-versus-AMD battery or performance rule.

Intel and AMD results compared

Factor Intel ExpertBook P5605CAA-XS76 AMD ExpertBook PM5 G2 comparison unit
Processor Intel Core Ultra 7 356H AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470
Battery capacity 63 Wh 70 Wh
Cinebench R15 multi-loop average 2,163 points 3,272 points
Wi-Fi web-surfing runtime 15 hours 34 minutes Not stated in Notebookcheck’s cited Intel review

The scores are Notebookcheck measurements from 2026, with Performance mode selected in Windows and MyASUS for the Cinebench section. The 15-hour-34-minute figure is specifically the Intel unit’s Wi-Fi web-surfing runtime; it is not a promise for mixed workloads. Notebookcheck describes the compared systems’ display and external design as otherwise the same, but their battery capacities differ.

What the Intel configuration offers

ASUS identifies P5605CAA as the 16-inch Intel ExpertBook P5 G2. On its US technical-specification page, ASUS lists Windows 11 Pro and a Core Ultra 7 356H option with 16 cores and 16 threads. The listed US display is WQXGA (2560 × 1600), 16:10, anti-glare, 400 nits, and 100% sRGB. These are official US listing details, not a promise that every regional SKU has the same configuration.

Notebookcheck’s tested unit had 32 GB in one memory channel, and the review notes that the second SO-DIMM slot can be populated.

Display and configuration checks

The reviewed XS76 had a 144 Hz panel, while ASUS’s US specification page describes a 400-nit, 100% sRGB WQXGA display without establishing that every listed SKU has the reviewed refresh rate. Official listings show regional differences in processor, memory, storage, and display options. ASUS’s US launch announcement also says specifications and availability may vary by country and change without notice. Strengths and drawbacks of the reviewed Intel unit

Reasons to consider it

  • Thunderbolt 4 provides a connection option for compatible docking setups and eGPU use, as noted in Notebookcheck’s review.
  • The memory is upgradeable through SO-DIMM slots; the review says the second slot can be populated.
  • Notebookcheck recorded 15 hours 34 minutes in its Wi-Fi web-surfing test and reported quieter fan behavior and greater efficiency than in its AMD comparison unit.
  • The review lists relatively cool core temperatures under load and a compact 65 W USB-C adapter among the Intel unit’s strengths.

Trade-offs to weigh

  • The AMD comparison unit scored higher in the cited Cinebench R15 multi-loop test, which matters if your work depends on sustained multi-thread CPU performance.
  • Notebookcheck lists no touchscreen option, no SD card reader, hinges it considers too loose, and no USB-C charging port on the right edge as drawbacks.

How to choose between the Intel and AMD versions

  1. Match the exact configurations. Compare full model numbers, processors, memory, storage, display resolution and refresh rate, battery capacity, ports, and warranty in your region. The P5 G2 name alone does not identify one fixed specification.
  2. Prioritize the work you do. For sustained multi-thread workloads, the cited Cinebench result favors the tested AMD system. For docking or eGPU needs, Thunderbolt 4 is a documented feature of the tested Intel model.
  3. Compare like-for-like battery evidence. The Intel result is a Wi-Fi web-surfing test. Do not apply that figure to gaming, video rendering, or mixed office use, or assume it predicts an AMD model’s runtime.
  4. Check upgrade and display requirements. Verify the memory ceiling and available slots for the exact SKU, and confirm the panel’s resolution, brightness, color coverage, and refresh rate rather than inferring them from the family name.
  5. Evaluate the local deal and practical omissions. Compare current prices for matching configurations, then decide whether the lack of a touchscreen or SD reader, hinge feel, and connector placement affect your work.

What the price and review do not establish

Notebookcheck displayed the reviewed XS76 at $2,600 as configured in September 2026. That is a dated page observation, not a verified current offer or a price that applies across countries and configurations. Check current local availability and pricing against the exact SKU.

The review names Lenovo ThinkBook, LG Gram 16, and MSI Summit systems among comparison candidates; these are not endorsements. A useful comparison requires matching processor, display, warranty, ports, weight, and local price.
