Thibaut Courtois and entrepreneur Gonzalo Vila joined Fusion Esports Group, Astralis’s owner, as investors through their investment group NXTPLAY, Astralis announced on 29 September 2026. The announcement did not disclose how much they invested or whether the deal supplied enough cash to address Astralis’s liquidity needs. The news comes against a difficult financial backdrop: Astralis CS ApS, the operating company covered in recent accounts reporting, recorded a large loss and had very little cash at the end of 2025.
What does Courtois’s investment mean for Astralis?
The announcement establishes that Courtois and Vila invested in Fusion Esports Group through NXTPLAY. Fusion owns Astralis, so the investment is at the owner-group level; the announcement does not say that they bought shares directly in Astralis CS ApS, the operating company discussed in the financial reporting.

Astralis described the move as NXTPLAY’s expansion into esports. NXTPLAY’s named football-club portfolio includes Le Mans FC, CD Extremadura and KRC Genk. Courtois is identified as NXTPLAY co-founder and partner. The announcement does not disclose the investors’ stake, the shares or rights they received, or how much new cash went to Fusion.
Who owns Astralis?
Fusion Esports Group is Astralis’s owner, according to the announcement and the financial reporting on the transaction. Courtois and Vila are now investors in Fusion through NXTPLAY; the public announcement does not provide enough detail to establish their precise ownership percentage or investor rights.

How much did NXTPLAY invest?
The amount was not disclosed. A separate company-register entry has prompted speculation, but it does not establish the size or source of NXTPLAY’s investment.
What the September capital increase does—and does not—show
The Esports Advocate reported that Fusion Esports Group ApS registered a cash capital increase on 24 September 2026. The publication calculated that the entry implied about DKK 3.2 million in funding for roughly 2.4% of enlarged share capital. Those figures are the publication’s calculation from the registry entry, whose subscriber was not named. Neither Fusion nor NXTPLAY had confirmed in that reporting that the entry represented NXTPLAY’s investment, so it should not be treated as a confirmed deal amount or stake.

The Esports Advocate also said Fusion’s articles were amended in September and that it had not reviewed the current articles. The available reporting therefore does not establish the investor rights attached to the investment.

The reported accounts point to significant financial pressure at Astralis CS ApS, but they do not by themselves establish that the company is insolvent. The Esports Advocate and Esports Insider reported the following figures from the operating company’s 2025 accounts:

These figures concern Astralis CS ApS, not necessarily the consolidated finances of Fusion Esports Group or every company associated with the Astralis brand. They are reported by the publications from the filed accounts; the reporting cited here does not amount to an independent examination of the filing.
What the auditor’s warning means
BDO highlighted material uncertainty that may cast significant doubt on Astralis CS ApS’s ability to continue operating. This is a serious going-concern warning, not a declaration that the company has become insolvent or will certainly cease operating.

Management said the company depended on additional liquidity. It also said it received a payment from Denmark’s Export and Investment Fund (EIFO) in April 2026 and expected a capital process in the third quarter, potentially alongside further EIFO loans. According to The Esports Advocate, the accounts report was signed on 1 August 2026, before those negotiations had been finalized.
Has the investment resolved Astralis’s liquidity needs?
That is not established by the public details. The 29 September announcement gives no investment amount or indication of how much, if any, new cash was provided to Fusion. The reported September capital increase cannot be confidently attributed to NXTPLAY, and the earlier account of the company’s funding process described negotiations that were still unfinished when the report was signed. The available information therefore does not show whether the investment met Astralis CS ApS’s liquidity needs.
