Use both only after confirming the connection
If Astra is intended to feed OBS, establish how the phone output reaches the PC and whether your selected OBS setup can ingest it. There is no universal answer without the computer’s specifications and the production you plan to make. OBS’s system-requirements page, dated 25 August 2021, explicitly cautions: “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” It also says the load varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. - Processor model and whether you plan to use software encoding or an available hardware encoder.
- Graphics hardware, RAM, and operating system.
- Number and type of sources, filters, browser elements, and audio inputs in the scene.
- Target resolution and frame rate.
- Phone model and intended Astra output, if using a phone as a source.
- Sustained upload capacity where you will stream, not just a short speed-test peak.

Set up a YouTube encoder stream and test it
YouTube describes encoder streaming as useful for screen sharing, gameplay, external audio/video equipment, and advanced productions. Follow the current YouTube encoder setup guidance. First-time live streaming enablement may take up to 24 hours, so enable it well ahead of a planned broadcast.
- Enable live streaming and prepare the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and follow the encoder setup flow. Use the stream key shown for that event in OBS; treat it as a password and do not share or publish it.
- Set OBS output to match your target. Choose a resolution and frame rate your computer and sustained connection can handle. In OBS, configure the video encoder and bitrate for the intended output. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use it where your encoder setup offers it.
- Use YouTube’s H.264 guidance as a starting point. The platform’s published recommendations list 4 Mbps for 240p–720p at 30 fps, 6 Mbps for 720p at 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guaranteed minimum upload speed or a prediction of performance on a particular Indian ISP or PC.
- Set rate control and keyframes. YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. For audio, its guidance lists AAC or MP3. Confirm encoder options in your OBS version and select settings compatible with the stream you created.

- Adjust based on the failure you observe. If the stream drops frames or health warnings appear, reduce output demands or bitrate and retest. If OBS reports encoding lag, reduce scene complexity, resolution, or frame rate, or try an available hardware encoder if the system supports it. Change one major setting at a time so the result is interpretable.
