If Astra says a stream is online while YouTube shows offline, the two status messages do not necessarily refer to the same thing. Astra’s status alone does not confirm that YouTube is receiving video for the intended event—or that a scheduled broadcast has been started. First check the selected YouTube event and its stream URL and key, then see whether YouTube shows an incoming preview.
First, identify which Astra product you mean
“Astra Streaming” is ambiguous. DataStax Astra Streaming is a serverless event-streaming service powered by Apache Pulsar, while Astra Streaming Studio is a separate Android video-streaming app. Available product information does not establish that either one is the Astra service in this case or explain a specific Astra-to-YouTube status integration. Before changing settings, note the Astra app or service name and version, how it sends video, and whether you selected a scheduled YouTube broadcast or an instant stream. The steps below follow YouTube’s encoder workflow; an Astra-specific fix cannot be confirmed without knowing which Astra product and connection method you use.
Check the YouTube event and its stream key
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and select the event you intend to broadcast. Make sure it is not a different scheduled stream or an old event.
- Compare the stream URL and key configured in Astra or its connected encoder with the values for that event in Live Control Room. YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send video to your stream.
- If the encoder reports a startup error, YouTube recommends generating a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder with it. Do this only for the intended event, then check again for an incoming preview.
Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions if you need to confirm how the event’s stream URL and key are used.

Check whether YouTube has received the feed
In Live Control Room, distinguish an incoming encoder feed and preview from a public broadcast that has actually started. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s instructions say to wait for the preview and then select Go live. An encoder can be sending data while the scheduled event itself is not yet live.
If YouTube shows no preview or says it is waiting for data, continue through the checks below rather than treating Astra’s “online” label as proof that the YouTube event is receiving a healthy feed. “Waiting for data” is a related symptom, not evidence that every Astra/YouTube mismatch has the same cause.

Inspect the encoder and outbound connection
- Check the encoder’s own output. Confirm it is capturing the intended video and audio and look for encoder errors. YouTube defines an encoder as “the app, program or tool that you can use to capture and compress your live stream.”
- Update the encoder. YouTube advises using the latest version. If the feed appears unhealthy, check the encoder’s guidance and consider testing another encoder to help isolate the problem.
- Review system load. Check whether the computer running the encoder is under heavy CPU load. A local status indicator does not by itself establish that usable audio and video are reaching YouTube.
- Test the outbound Internet connection. If the encoder output looks healthy but YouTube still receives no preview, test the connection from the sending setup. YouTube advises contacting the internet service provider when a connection test identifies a problem. A speed test alone cannot confirm that the correct YouTube event and key are selected.

If it is still offline
Record the exact status or error shown in Live Control Room, the Astra product and version, the encoder or protocol in use, and whether the event is scheduled or instant. Share those details with support for the product you have identified. YouTube’s troubleshooting page also provides a way to report a continuing problem to YouTube. Without knowing which Astra product is involved, there is no confirmed Astra-specific support route or fix to give.

Do not buy a cable, capture card, router or other hardware solely because the two services show different statuses. The checks supported by YouTube’s guidance are event selection, stream-key configuration, encoder health and outbound connectivity; replace hardware only if you identify a concrete fault.
