There is no disclosed satellite-count threshold for AST SpaceMobile’s SpaceMobile Service revenue. After BlueBirds 11–13 launched on August 5, 2026, the company reported 13 spacecraft in orbit and said it was preparing beta services with selected strategic partners. Its target of about 45 BlueBird satellites in early 2027 is a deployment goal—not a stated trigger for commercial revenue.
AST already reports revenue—but not from its SpaceMobile Service
The answer depends on what “revenue” means. AST SpaceMobile reported $31.5 million in revenue for the second quarter of 2026. The company’s August 10 earnings release attributed that revenue to gateway deliveries and U.S. Government milestones. Its Form 10-Q separately said that the SpaceMobile Service had not launched and had generated no revenue as of June 30, 2026. The filing also describes government performance-obligation revenue and sales of gateway equipment, software, and related services to mobile network operators.

So the company can report revenue before its planned satellite-to-phone service begins commercial operation. The $31.5 million figure is company-wide quarterly revenue, not evidence of paying SpaceMobile subscribers.

13 spacecraft reported in orbit
AST said it had 13 spacecraft in orbit after BlueBirds 11–13 launched on August 5, 2026. The August 10 business update reported the launch and the resulting count. Company release

About 45 targeted in early 2027
In its Form 10-Q filed August 10, AST targeted approximately 45 BlueBird satellites in early 2027. That is a company deployment plan, not a commitment that service revenue will begin at that count. The filing identifies dependencies including satellite assembly and testing, regulatory approvals, launch-vehicle readiness and launch windows, logistics, funding, resulting coverage, and launch costs.
The same filing lists authorization for a 248-satellite network deployment. That is a broader authorization ceiling and network plan; it is not the near-term revenue threshold.

Launch count is not the same as usable service capacity
A launch, successful deployment, operational spacecraft, beta service, and commercial service are different milestones. AST’s Form 10-Q illustrates why: BlueBird 7 entered a lower-than-planned orbit during the April 19, 2026 New Glenn 3 mission and was later de-orbited because it could not sustain operations. The filing also says BlueBirds 8–10 were deployed in July and BlueBirds 11–13 launched August 5. Counting launches alone can therefore overstate the number of spacecraft capable of supporting service.

Beta service is not a commercial revenue launch
AST management described its 2026 beta as scaled, non-commercial use with selected strategic mobile network partners. In the August 10 release, CEO Abel Avellan said: “As we get ready to ship BlueBirds 14, 15, and 16 and continue expanding our constellation with production ongoing through BlueBird 46, we are preparing to initiate beta services with select strategic partners.”
That statement describes preparation for beta use, not a date or satellite count for commercial availability, paying subscribers, or recurring service revenue. The company has not disclosed a minimum number of operational satellites that guarantees SpaceMobile Service revenue.

What the revenue figures do—and do not—tell investors
AST’s August 10, 2026 release reported $31.5 million of second-quarter revenue and provided full-year 2026 revenue guidance of $150 million to $200 million. The guidance is management’s estimate for company revenue, not a forecast of SpaceMobile Service revenue or a satellite-count milestone. The release identifies gateway deliveries and U.S. Government milestones as Q2 revenue drivers.

- Operational status and coverage: whether spacecraft can operate and contribute to usable service.
- Service stage: beta activity with selected partners versus a commercial launch.
- Revenue source: equipment, software, government work, or the planned SpaceMobile Service.
AST’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 and its August 10, 2026 earnings release establish the reported counts, revenue, guidance, and plans. Neither supplies a satellite number at which the service is guaranteed to start generating revenue.
