If your Assetto Corsa server appears under Drive → Online → LAN but not in the public Online list, the server process is usually running and the problem is between the host PC, its firewall, the router and the Kunos lobby registration service. Forward TCP and UDP 9600 plus TCP 8081 to the computer running the server, allow the server executable through the host firewall, confirm public registration in the server settings, then restart and refresh the list. If the server is listed but players cannot join, switch to content, slots, password, ping and authentication checks instead of changing port rules blindly.

First, identify which failure you have
There are three different symptoms that are often described as “the server is not showing up,” and they require different fixes:

Router forwarding, firewall access and the public-registration setting are the priority checks.
- Missing from both LAN and Online: first verify that the preset or dedicated server process actually started, that you launched the intended configuration, and that the list has been refreshed after allowing time for discovery.
- Listed, but unavailable or impossible to join: the lobby entry exists, so investigate blocked ports, mismatched car or track files, CSP requirements, slots, password, ping or authentication.
A server can therefore be healthy enough for a computer on the same network to see while still being unreachable to players on the Internet. Treat LAN visibility as a useful local test, not proof that public hosting is configured correctly.
How LAN discovery differs from public registration
LAN discovery
LAN discovery uses the local network. In Content Manager, open Drive → Online → LAN and look for the server there. This confirms that the host process is running and that local discovery can reach it. The entry may take a few moments to appear; refresh the list rather than assuming an immediate launch failure.

Public Kunos-lobby registration
The public Online list depends on the server registering with the Kunos lobby and accepting inbound traffic from outside your home network. A server can be visible in LAN while this registration fails. The log is the deciding evidence: watch the console during startup and again while another player searches the list.
Do not interpret a public-list failure as proof that the car, track or session configuration is wrong. Registration and content validation are separate stages.

1. Start the correct server and verify its scope
- Launch the intended preset in Content Manager, or start the dedicated server from its dedicated folder. AssettoServer documentation supports both operating the server inside Content Manager and running it from a dedicated folder.
- Wait briefly after launch, then open Drive → Online → LAN and refresh. If it appears, record that result: the process and local discovery are working, so continue with Internet registration and forwarding.
- If it does not appear even in LAN, keep the server console visible. Look for startup errors, a failed process, or a different preset than the one you meant to run before changing router settings.
2. Read the console while a player searches
Keep the server console or log open while starting the server and while a second player searches the Online list. The documented registration error is:
“Error during Kunos lobby registation: ERROR, INVALID SERVER, CHECK YOUR PORT FORWARDING SETTINGS”

The misspelling of “registration” is part of the displayed message. Treat this as a port-forwarding or firewall branch. It identifies a reachability problem, but it does not prove that every other server setting is correct.
3. Find the host PC’s current local IP address
Router rules must point to the computer that actually runs the server. Identify that PC’s current local IPv4 address and use it as the destination in every forwarding rule. A rule aimed at an old address, another computer or a second server will not expose the running process. Check this again if the router has assigned the host a different address since the last setup.

For the default setup, create router rules that send the following traffic to the host PC:

Forward both protocols for 9600; forwarding only TCP or only UDP leaves part of the required traffic blocked. Forward TCP 8081 as well. The destination for all rules must be the actual host PC, not the router’s own address.

Server-manager configurations expose these as separate settings—UDP_PORT, TCP_PORT and HTTP_PORT. If you changed those values from their defaults, open the corresponding configured ports on the server firewall and make the router rules match the values the server is really using. Do not create a second server on the same ports while testing; a port conflict can make the forwarding appear broken even when the router rule is correct.
5. Allow the server through the host firewall
On the Windows PC running the server, allow the server executable through Windows Firewall (or the equivalent host firewall). The router can forward a packet successfully and the PC can still discard it locally. Ensure that the firewall permission covers the network profile and executable being used by the running server, not only an obsolete installation.
When the server-manager configuration uses separate UDP, TCP and HTTP values, the corresponding traffic must be permitted on the server firewall too. Recheck the executable rule after moving the server folder, changing installations or launching a different build.
6. Confirm public registration settings
Once forwarding and firewall permissions are in place, verify that the server is configured to register publicly rather than operate only as a LAN session. A LAN-visible server can still omit itself from the public list if public registration is disabled or if the lobby-registration attempt is failing.

Restart the server after changing ports, firewall permissions or registration settings. A restart ensures the process binds to the intended ports and performs registration again from a clean state.
7. Wait, then refresh the right list
After the restart, give the server a few moments to register. In Content Manager, refresh the LAN or Online list instead of relying on the previous result. Have another player search from outside the host’s local network when possible; a local test can succeed even when inbound Internet access is still blocked.
Use the symptom to diagnose a listed-but-unjoinable server
Finding an entry in the public list means registration succeeded at least far enough to publish it. The next failure is usually session reachability or client compatibility.

| Password rejection | Confirm the player is using the server’s current password and that it was not changed in the active preset. |
| High ping or unstable connection | Check the player’s measured ping and the host connection before changing content files or server ports. |
| Steam-authentication rejection | Review the server’s authentication settings and the client’s Steam sign-in state. |
Make one branch of checks at a time. For example, a checksum kick is a content mismatch, not evidence that the router needs another port; a timeout is a reachability symptom, not evidence that the player needs a different car.

Port values must agree in three places
The configured values must match between the server preset or manager, the router’s forwarding rules and the host firewall. A mismatch in any one place produces a partial failure: the server may start, show locally or register briefly, yet remain unreachable to outside players.

Only one process should own the test ports
Confirm that no second Assetto Corsa server is already using the same ports. Stop an old instance before starting a revised preset. Otherwise the new process may fail to bind, while the old process continues to answer locally and confuses the diagnosis.
Read the active log, not an old copy
Registration status can change after a restart or port edit. Keep the console for the active process visible and watch what happens during a fresh search. An old log can preserve an earlier invalid-server message after the underlying configuration has changed.
Choosing a hosting method while troubleshooting
The same game can be hosted in several ways. The right choice depends on whether you need a quick LAN test, public access from a home connection or a managed environment.

A practical test order that avoids wasted changes
- Process: launch the intended preset or dedicated folder and keep its console open.
- LAN: check Drive → Online → LAN, wait briefly and refresh.
- Log: search for the exact lobby-registration error while another player searches.
- Address: confirm the router rules target the host PC’s current local IP.
- Ports: verify TCP and UDP 9600 and TCP 8081, or the explicitly configured alternatives.
- Firewall: allow the active server executable and the configured traffic on the host PC.
- Registration: confirm public registration is enabled, then restart the server.
- Refresh: wait for registration and refresh the Online list.
- Join test: if listed, classify the failure as timeout, checksum, CSP, slots, password, ping or authentication before changing anything else.
This order separates local software problems from network exposure problems and then from client compatibility problems. It also gives you a specific observation to report when asking for help: where the sequence stopped and what the active console said.
When the server still does not appear
If the server remains absent after the forwarding and firewall checks, return to the active console and verify that the process is using the configuration you edited. Confirm that the router rule points to the current host address, that no other server owns the ports, and that the configured UDP, TCP and HTTP values are the ones you opened. Restart once more after corrections, wait for registration and refresh the list.
If LAN visibility works but the public list does not, continue treating the issue as registration or inbound reachability rather than replacing car and track files. If the public entry appears but a particular driver cannot join, use that driver’s exact error to choose the content, CSP, slot, password, ping or authentication check.
