Where does Brotherhood fit?
Brotherhood is the second game in Ezio Auditore’s three-game story: Assassin’s Creed II → Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood → Assassin’s Creed Revelations. Ubisoft describes the game as sending Ezio to Rome to fight the Templar order, where he takes a leading role in the Assassin Brotherhood. The exact historical dates vary by mission; RadioTimes’ chronology guide places the game around 1499–1507, rather than implying one uninterrupted span.

For a first playthrough, follow the games’ narrative progression rather than moving titles around to sort the franchise by the dates of their historical settings.
What order should you play the connected early games?
- Assassin’s Creed
- Assassin’s Creed II
- Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
- Assassin’s Creed Revelations
- Assassin’s Creed III
This is the early modern-day story sequence given by RadioTimes’ 2025 guide. It also preserves Ezio’s character arc: II introduces the part of his life continued in Brotherhood, and Revelations completes the trilogy. The original game belongs before them when you want the wider contemporary framing plot, even though its historical setting is much earlier.

Story order and historical order are different
“Chronological order” can mean either the dates of the ancestral memories or the sequence of the modern-day plot. Those are not the same ordering rule across the series. A historical-date list may place games about other characters between Ezio’s entries, but that does not make them intervening chapters in Ezio’s story. RadioTimes’ guide treats historical setting order and modern-day story order separately.
- For Ezio’s character continuity: play II, Brotherhood, then Revelations.
- For the connected early modern-day plot: play the original game and continue in the sequence through III.
- For historical setting dates: use a date-based guide as a separate viewing order, not as a replacement for narrative order on a first playthrough.
Is The Ezio Collection the right way to play them?
Ubisoft groups Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, and Revelations as Ezio’s complete life story in The Ezio Collection. Its official page lists the three single-player campaigns and add-on content, as well as the short films Lineage and Embers. Check the listing for your platform and region before buying; the available information here does not establish current price or availability.

If you only need the middle game, Ubisoft also has a standalone Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood page. The trilogy collection is the straightforward option when you want all three Ezio campaigns together; it is not necessary to buy it just to identify Brotherhood’s place in the story.

Why Brotherhood matters in Ezio’s story
Brotherhood moves Ezio’s conflict to Rome and shifts his role from fighting the Templars as an individual to leading the Assassin Brotherhood. Ubisoft’s description puts the struggle in the heart of the Templar order; the game’s position between II and Revelations is what makes that change part of a continuous character arc rather than a side story.
