The ASICS GT-1000 15 is a stable, planted road trainer for everyday miles. Its guidance and platform width are its main strengths. Its weak points are energy return and toe-off, so it suits steady training better than faster sessions or runners who want a bouncy, plush feel. At the US reference price of $115, the decision mostly comes down to whether you value stability more than responsiveness.
What the GT-1000 15 is built to do
ASICS positions the GT-1000 15 as a road-running shoe with an engineered mesh upper, FF BLAST cushioning and its 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM, designed to support a stable, balanced stride. The US product listing classifies it as regular cushioning and lists both neutral and stability support, so it is best understood as a guided daily trainer rather than a strict motion-control shoe.

Stability: the strongest part of the shoe
Both independent reviews agree that stability is where the GT-1000 15 performs best. RunRepeat, in a lab review by Carlos Sánchez dated July 15, 2026, describes a stable, secure ride and notes that the wide platform gives a planted feel. It also says that some runners may find the base more than they need. RTINGS, whose review was first published June 26, 2026 and updated through September 16, 2026, calls the shoe impressively stable.
#1 Best Overall
- Engineered mesh upper: A mesh material that reduces the need for additional overlays.
- 3D GUIDANCE SYSTEM: Adaptive, on-demand stability system achieved through platform geometry and controlled deformation.
- FF BLAST cushioning: Midsole foam that provides a blend of cloud like cushioning and a responsive ride.
- Rearfoot PureGEL technology: Softer, updated version of our GEL technology that maintains the acclaimed properties that have made GEL technology famous. Approximately 65% softer vs standard GEL technology.
- OrthoLite sockliner: Sockliner that provides cushioning performance and moisture management for a cooler, dryer environment (OrthoLite is a registered trademark of ATP Manufacturing LLC).
That width is the reason. A 119.4 mm forefoot midsole and a 99.8 mm heel midsole give the foot a broad, low-to-the-ground base. If you tend to overpronate, or simply prefer a shoe that does not feel like it is moving under you on long, tired runs, this is the design the shoe is built around. If you have a narrow stride or like a lighter, more agile feel, the same width can feel like too much.
Cushioning and energy return: where the shoe gives ground
The GT-1000 15 is not a cushioned shoe in the sense of a soft, bouncy ride. RunRepeat describes the ride as balanced rather than especially plush or firm, but also as relatively flat. Its lab measured forefoot energy return at 49.6%, and the reviewer concludes that the midsole lacks the bounce and responsiveness wanted for faster efforts.

RTINGS reaches a similar conclusion from daily use. It says the shoe’s heft, disappointing cushioning and poor propulsion can make regular miles feel more draining than they should. The practical effect is that the shoe is comfortable enough for steady, easy running but feels heavy and unresponsive when the pace picks up or when you want a snappy toe-off.
Who the cushioning suits
- Runners doing easy and moderate daily miles who want a secure, predictable ride.
- Runners who want some added support but do not need a motion-control shoe.
- Runners who are heavier or who prefer a stable base over a light feel, provided they accept a heavier shoe at 278 g.
Who should look elsewhere
- Runners who plan regular speed sessions, tempo runs or races and want energetic toe-off.
- Runners who want a distinctly plush cushioning feel.
- Runners who find wide, stable platforms restrictive or who prefer a lighter shoe.
Durability
RunRepeat reports 0.5 mm of outsole wear in its Dremel-based lab test, compared with a 1.1 mm average across the shoes in its review set, and calls the new outsole rubber’s durability strong. This is a controlled laboratory result on a single test method, not a promised mileage lifespan. Your own wear will depend on your weight, stride, surfaces and how many miles you log each week. The reviewer does not establish a number of miles to replacement.

Fit, width and the removable insole
RunRepeat notes that the insole is removable and says it is compatible with most aftermarket insoles and orthotics. That is useful if you already use custom or over-the-counter inserts. Replacing the insole is optional. Many runners will not need it, and the shoe’s stability comes from its structure, not from the insole alone.
Wide sizing is generally offered, but availability varies by country. Check the exact size, width and color in your local ASICS listing before you buy, because size runs and widths can differ between regional catalogs.

Price and value
The ASICS US listing and RunRepeat both give $115 as the reference price. Whether that is good value depends on what you need from the shoe. For a stable daily trainer with a secure platform and good reported durability, the price is in line with the category. For a shoe that does well at faster paces, the low measured energy return means you may want to spend the money elsewhere.
Verdict for daily running
The GT-1000 15 is a sound choice for daily road running if you want a stable, guided, planted ride and accept moderate cushioning and low energy return. It is a weaker choice if your priorities are responsiveness, a lively toe-off or a plush feel. These are assessments drawn from published reviews and measurements, not individualized gait analysis or medical advice. If you have pain or a specific biomechanical concern, a running-specialist fitting is a better guide than any single review.
