It is a measured update to the GEL-NIMBUS 25, not a wholly different shoe: its revised midfoot fit and outsole are the main changes, while an independent review describes its ride as slightly firmer. Now that the GEL-NIMBUS 27 is available, the 26 makes most sense if you prefer its fit and feel and find it at a worthwhile price.
What changed from the GEL-NIMBUS 25?
ASICS announced the GEL-NIMBUS 26 on November 28, 2023, positioning it as a flagship cushioned shoe for long runs. The company said it updated the engineered knit upper and midfoot fit and introduced HYBRID ASICSGRIP, a combination of ASICSGRIP and AHARPLUS outsole rubbers. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the design, not independent proof of a particular level of grip or comfort. ASICS’ launch announcement also identifies PureGEL in the heel and FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam in its UK outlet product description; that regional listing does not establish US stock. Fleet Feet’s review characterizes the 26 as a modest refinement: the midfoot feels more secure, and the ride is slightly firmer than the 25. Its listed figures show small stack-height changes and no change to the 8 mm drop. The listed prices below are launch-era figures from Fleet Feet, not current offers. How does the GEL-NIMBUS 26 compare with the 27?
The 27 is the newer model, and Fleet Feet lists it with an updated, softer FF BLAST PLUS ECO foam and a lighter jacquard mesh upper. It lists the same 8 mm drop and men’s stack as the 26, with a little more stack in the women’s version. The review describes the 27 as roughly similar in weight overall, though its listed women’s weight is 9.3 oz compared with 9.1 oz for the 26. Fleet Feet’s GEL-NIMBUS 27 review

A newer version is not automatically a better fit: your preference for the 26’s somewhat firmer ride and its midfoot hold may matter more than the small specification differences. Compare the actual fit and ride if you can, then weigh any verified price difference against the updates in the 27.

Who is the GEL-NIMBUS 26 for?
It is designed as a highly cushioned neutral daily trainer, with long and easy runs as its natural use cases. The available product descriptions and review do not establish that it suits every foot shape, running pace, or gait, and cushioning alone is not evidence of injury prevention.
When trying it on, pay attention to whether your heel stays put, the midfoot feels secure without pressure, and the toe box leaves enough room. Check width options and test the ride at a pace similar to how you plan to use it. A shoe that feels plush to one runner may feel too firm or bulky to another.

Is the older model worth buying now?
The 26 is an older model relative to the 27, so its value depends on the price and sizes actually available where you shop. Fleet Feet’s $160 figure is a listed launch-era price, not a current price. A Tom’s Guide shopping article dated October 2, 2026 discusses the 27 and reports a sale price for that newer model, but it does not establish the 26’s current price or stock. Tom’s Guide’s October 2, 2026 GEL-NIMBUS 27 deal article
Check current stock, return terms, size, width, and color before buying; remaining inventory and offers can change. If the 26 costs close to the 27, decide whether its ride and fit are specifically preferable to you. If the price is meaningfully lower and it fits well, the older model may be a sensible choice.
