Yes—Ashes of the Singularity II is planned to support online co-op, competitive PvP, mixed human-and-AI matches, and offline play against bots. The Steam listing describes three core modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and Instant Action. Stardock has announced a planned November 10, 2026 release, but the game is still listed as “Coming soon,” so details such as the final player cap and any additional co-op modes can still change.
What Ashes of the Singularity II is and what is confirmed
Ashes of the Singularity II is a large-scale real-time strategy game from Oxide Games and Stardock. Its multiplayer design is broader than a simple player-versus-player ladder: you can play a story campaign alone, fight computer-controlled opponents in skirmishes, cooperate with friends against AI, compete against other people, or combine human and computer players in the same online match.

The current Steam product listing identifies the game as a pre-release title and names single-player, online PvP, and online co-op support. Stardock’s FAQ adds the most specific information about offline play and mixed lobbies. Those statements describe the intended feature set, while the final interface, matchmaking rules, and balance details remain subject to change before launch.

| Campaign | Computer-controlled forces within a story | Offline supported | Solo narrative progression | Lead the United Earth Forces through a near-future story. |
| Multiplayer PvP | Human opponents | Online | Competitive solo or team battles | Purely human games are supported according to Stardock’s FAQ. |
| Online co-op | AI opponents | Online | Friends cooperate on one side against bots | Explicitly confirmed by Stardock. |
| Mixed online match | Humans and AI | Online | Human players supplemented by computer players | Stardock says human-only and mixed human/AI games are possible. |
| Instant Action | Computer-controlled opponents | Offline supported | Solo skirmish, team-versus-team, or free-for-all | Choose a battlefield and fight AI designed by experienced RTS developers. |
The table separates confirmed mode concepts from assumptions about menus. For example, “team battle” does not by itself establish a particular team size, matchmaking rating, map list, or tournament rules.

Does Ashes of the Singularity II have co-op?
Yes. Stardock’s FAQ says players can team up with friends online and play cooperatively against AI opponents. This is a conventional co-op or “comp-stomp” setup: the human players share the battlefield and objective against computer-controlled enemies rather than fighting one another.
The FAQ also says the developers were considering additional co-op-focused modes. Those possibilities are not launch commitments. Until Stardock publishes a specific mode name and rules, treat the confirmed option as online cooperative matches against AI, not as a promise of a separate co-op campaign, special raid mode, or other unannounced format.
Can you play against bots offline?
Yes. Stardock states that Ashes II will support full offline play in both the campaign and skirmish against AI bots. You will not need an internet connection for those two categories of play, assuming the normal installation and platform requirements have been met.
Offline skirmishes are described in two useful forms:
- Team-versus-team: you can team up with AI allies against another AI side, or use computer players to fill out opposing teams.
- Free-for-all: you can fight numerous AI opponents without a cooperative team structure.
“Full offline play” applies to the campaign and AI skirmish. It does not mean that online PvP or online co-op can be launched without a connection; those modes inherently require network access.

How online co-op and mixed matches differ
Online co-op against AI
In a co-op match, human players cooperate against computer-controlled opponents. The arrangement is useful when you want the scale and coordination of multiplayer without directly competing with friends. You can divide responsibilities, reinforce a threatened front, and practice large battles together.
The confirmed information does not specify whether co-op uses dedicated maps, campaign missions, shared progression, voice chat, or a particular invitation system. Those should be treated as implementation details still awaiting final documentation.

Stardock’s FAQ explicitly says online games can be purely human or can mix human players with AI players. That makes it possible to fill a team or opposing side with bots when a full human lobby is unavailable, although the exact rules for assigning them have not been published.
Mixed matches are different from co-op against AI because the human players do not all have to be on the same team. A lobby could, subject to the final settings, combine human teammates, human opponents, and computer-controlled slots. The FAQ confirms the capability, not every possible team arrangement.
Is Ashes II primarily PvP or co-op?
It is designed for both. The Steam listing advertises online PvP and online co-op as separate features, while Stardock’s release announcement groups the planned multiplayer offering under “Multiplayer, Competitive and Co-Op.” You therefore do not have to choose between a competitive-only RTS and a cooperative-only game.

Competitive play can be organized as solo battles or team games, based on the descriptions of custom skirmishes and competitive team or solo battles in a PC Gamer preview. The preview also mentions co-op “comp-stomps,” reinforcing that cooperative AI battles are a central use case rather than an incidental bot mode.

What is Instant Action?
Instant Action is the repeatable skirmish-style mode. The Steam description presents it as a way to choose a battlefield and fight computer-controlled opponents created by experienced RTS developers. It is the natural choice when you want a battle without committing to the narrative campaign or joining an online lobby.
Instant Action is also the mode most clearly connected to offline experimentation. You can use it to learn the factions, test openings, practice large-scale control, or set up team-versus-team and free-for-all battles with AI. Because the final map roster, difficulty names, victory conditions, and match customisation options have not all been specified, do not assume that every familiar RTS skirmish setting will be available at launch.
Campaign: the single-player story option
The Campaign places you in command of the United Earth Forces in a story-driven near-future scenario. It is a separate purpose from multiplayer: the campaign provides narrative progression, while Instant Action and Multiplayer are designed for repeatable battles.
Stardock’s offline statement specifically includes the campaign, so the story mode is intended to remain playable without an internet connection. The available information does not establish whether campaign missions support drop-in co-op, branching outcomes, or shared saves. Those features should not be inferred from the existence of online co-op elsewhere in the game.

Factions available in skirmish and multiplayer
Stardock’s release announcement says all three factions can be commanded in skirmish and multiplayer:
| Faction | Where it is confirmed | What is not yet stated |
|---|---|---|
| United Earth Forces | Skirmish and multiplayer; also the campaign’s player force | Complete unit roster, balance, and faction-specific multiplayer rules |
| AI Substrate | Skirmish and multiplayer | Exact technology tree and competitive matchup details |
| Post-Human Coalition | Skirmish and multiplayer | Exact technology tree and competitive matchup details |
This means the campaign’s United Earth Forces are not the only playable side once you enter skirmish or multiplayer. It does not mean every faction has identical objectives or that the story can be replayed from each perspective.
How many players does Ashes of the Singularity II support?
A Stardock report on the Steam Next Fest demo recorded matches with up to eight players. That is the clearest published player-count figure, but it describes a demo or playtest configuration, not a guaranteed final launch maximum.
Until a later official specification confirms the cap, use “up to eight in the reported demo” rather than “the game supports eight players” as an unconditional statement. The final version could retain that limit, change it, or apply different limits to different match types. No separate player counts for campaign co-op, ranked play, custom games, or AI slots have been established.

Planned release date and what can still change
Stardock’s latest cited release announcement gives November 10, 2026 as the planned launch date. “Planned” matters: the Steam page remains pre-release, so the date is not a guarantee that the build will ship on that day.
The following points are confirmed concepts but not fully specified launch rules:
- The final maximum number of players in each match type.
- Whether the reported eight-player demo configuration will remain unchanged.
- The exact lobby, invitation, matchmaking, and bot-assignment controls.
- Any additional co-op-focused modes beyond cooperative battles against AI.
- Campaign co-op, cross-platform play, local multiplayer, LAN support, ranked seasons, and progression shared between modes.
None of those unconfirmed items should be treated as included simply because another modern RTS offers them. The reliable baseline is narrower: offline campaign and AI skirmish, online PvP, online co-op against AI, and online games that can mix human and computer players.
Practical expectations for launch
If you are buying Ashes II mainly for cooperative play, the safest expectation is a group of friends joining an online battle against AI. If you want solo practice, you should be able to play campaign missions and Instant Action skirmishes offline. If you are evaluating it as a competitive RTS, the announced multiplayer structure includes both human-only and team-based battles, with three playable factions in skirmish and multiplayer.
Because the game has not launched, wait for the final Steam description and Stardock’s launch documentation before relying on a specific player cap, a named co-op variant, or a particular matchmaking feature. The announced mode framework is substantial, but the details that determine how a lobby behaves are still being finalized.
