The Art & Science Gold Plus is a queen-sized pocket-spring mattress listed by CHOICE as firm. Its product specifications and environmental scores provide useful points of comparison, but they do not establish whether it will feel comfortable to you: CHOICE’s available August 2024 figures are environmental scores, not this model’s comfort rating. Treat the price and trial terms shown on CHOICE’s product page as reported listings, and confirm current purchase conditions with the seller.

What CHOICE’s August 2024 test figures do—and do not—say
CHOICE’s August 2024 mattress test table reports environmental scores for the Gold Plus. These should not be read as its comfort score, durability score or overall Expert Rating.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Measure | Gold Plus result | Attribution and date |
|---|---|---|
| Environmental impact | 57% | CHOICE, 2024 |
| Carbon footprint | 50% | CHOICE, 2024 |
| Recyclability | 48% | CHOICE, 2024 |
| Build quality | 88% | CHOICE, 2024 |
CHOICE says its environmental impact score combines carbon footprint (40%), recyclability (40%) and build quality (20%). It does not contribute to the CHOICE Expert Rating. The available test information does not provide the Gold Plus’s comfort or durability sub-scores, so those cannot be inferred from the environmental figures.
CHOICE’s general test-method description says it assesses firmness and comfort when new and after wear, as well as movement after a standard impact, sagging, sweat repellence and insulation. Wear and damage testing uses 30,000 cycles of a cask-shaped roller, which CHOICE says is intended to simulate around eight years of use. These explain the test approach; they are not model-specific Gold Plus results in the available figures.

Will the firm feel suit you?
“Firm” is a product description, not a guarantee of comfort. Perceived firmness and support vary between people and sleeping positions, and an in-store impression may differ from how a mattress feels at home. CHOICE recognizes comfort as subjective and recommends trying a mattress in store or using a trial period where available. Check the seller’s current trial and exchange terms first; the 30-day period displayed on CHOICE’s page may not describe the retailer’s present offer.

ProductReview’s Q&A shows the kinds of questions shoppers raise about this mattress: whether spring noises or popping sounds are normal, whether it helps back pain, and whether a very hard feel after two nights might ease with adjustment. Those are reader questions, not verified answers. They do not establish that the Gold Plus causes or relieves pain, that noises are expected, or that a break-in period will make it more comfortable. No clinical benefit for back pain is established by the cited material.

One customer review says the Gold Plus felt firmer than the mattress that person tried in store, and mentions purchasing a waterproof mattress protector. That is an individual account, not a general performance finding or proof that a protector is needed.

- Try the feel in your usual position. If possible, lie on the mattress long enough to assess comfort rather than relying on the “firm” label alone. Consider whether your usual sleeping positions feel comfortable.
- Get the current terms in writing. Ask the seller to confirm the delivered price, trial duration and conditions, exchange policy, warranty and delivery arrangements. Do not assume the figures displayed on CHOICE’s page are current.
- Separate test categories. Use the CHOICE environmental figures to consider environmental impact, not to predict comfort or overall test performance. Look for model-specific comfort and durability results before using those factors in a comparison.
- Compare like with like. Assess alternatives by firmness and personal comfort, independent performance and durability results, construction and materials, trial and warranty conditions, current delivered price, and disposal or recyclability evidence.
CHOICE’s general consumer guidance makes the point plainly: “expensive mattresses definitely don’t always perform better than cheaper models.” The Gold Plus’s listed price alone therefore cannot tell you whether it is the right choice; fit, verified test results and the retailer’s current terms matter too.
