Around 4,000 LT grade teachers in Uttar Pradesh government secondary schools are proposed for promotion to lecturer posts, but the promotions have not yet been formally cleared. The next reported step is a departmental promotion committee (DPC) meeting convened by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC).
What is proposed, and how many teachers are included?
Hindustan Times reported on October 3, 2026, that a promotion proposal covered around 4,000 teachers: more than 2,100 in the male cadre and over 1,800 in the female cadre. These are figures in a proposed list, not a count of teachers who have received promotion orders. Hindustan Times report

What step remains before promotions can be cleared?
The education directorate was expected to write to UPPSC to convene a DPC meeting. The committee meeting is the reported formal step needed to clear the promotions. Although a government direction reportedly set September 30 as the deadline for completing the exercise, preparation and scrutiny of seniority lists took longer than expected. Officials told the newspaper they expected the process to move forward shortly; no confirmed date for the DPC or final orders was reported. Hindustan Times report
Why has the promotion process been delayed?
According to the newspaper, the secondary education department approached UPPSC roughly two years earlier to convene the DPC for vacancies across academic sessions 2019–20 through 2023–24. UPPSC raised objections to the proposals, including requests for more complete vacancy records and concerns about seniority and reservation documentation.

- Vacancy records: UPPSC sought details explaining why and when vacancies arose.
- Seniority: It sought certification that the seniority lists were undisputed; the male cadre also faced seniority disputes.
- Female-cadre list: The report said UPPSC objected to non-sequential numbering of women teachers.
- Disability reservation: The commission reportedly objected that reservation for persons with disabilities had not been earmarked against posts requisitioned year by year.
These are the objections as described by Hindustan Times; the underlying UPPSC letters and official promotion rules were not available for independent review.
Who is eligible, and when were earlier promotions reported?
Hindustan Times says LT grade teachers who complete five years of service are to be considered annually for promotion against available lecturer vacancies. The report says the last female-cadre promotion round took place in December 2022, involving 59 teachers in two subjects, while male-cadre promotions had been pending for several years. These descriptions reflect the newspaper’s account; the underlying rules and promotion orders were not independently reviewed. Hindustan Times report
