Start with the fastest recovery sequence
Most empty-list reports are caused by the browser state or visibility filters rather than a missing server. Work through these actions in order; stop when the list and connection work.

A browser opened from Play, Game Master, or Scenarios can omit a server that is available in the dedicated browser.
- Open the correct browser. Choose Multiplayer from the main menu, not a server picker embedded in another mode.
- Wait for the initial query. Give the list about a minute to populate. Loading a large result set or a slow connection can make the first view look empty.
- Refresh once. Use the browser’s Refresh control after the wait. Repeatedly clicking it in quick succession can leave you judging an intermediate result.
- Reopen Multiplayer. If the list remains empty, go back to the main menu and enter Multiplayer again.
- Restart the game. A full restart clears a browser session that did not update correctly.
These steps address the condition in which no servers appear at all. If you can see some servers but not the one you need, go directly to the filter checks below. If the target appears but refuses the connection, skip to the join-failure section.
Why two players can see different servers
The browser does not necessarily return the same set to every player. Visibility is the result of several filters and compatibility rules applied to your client. Compare your settings with the person who can see the server instead of assuming the server is offline.

Resetting every filter is the quickest diagnostic. Once the server appears, reapply limits one at a time so you know which setting excluded it. A friend can read each filter value aloud while you compare; a single different checkbox is enough to produce a different list.
Reset filters without losing track of the problem
Use a deliberately broad test
In Multiplayer, set the region to the broadest available option, raise the ping ceiling, include all scenarios, and show both official and community servers. Turn on crossplay if the group uses more than one platform. Refresh and search again. This test asks only whether the browser can see the server at all.

After the target appears, restore your preferred region first, then the ping limit, scenario, server type, and platform options. Refresh after each change. When the target disappears, the last change identifies the visibility rule that needs adjustment. Keep a higher ping limit if the server is geographically distant; a low limit can hide a healthy server before you ever test the connection.
Check the other player’s view
Have your friend confirm the server’s displayed region, scenario, official or community status, and platform permissions. Do not rely only on a server name, because names can be duplicated or changed by community hosts. Matching the descriptive fields helps you determine whether you are looking at the same listing.

Crossplay and platform compatibility
Crossplay has two sides: the server must allow the platforms, and your client must include those platforms in its Multiplayer filters. Enabling only one side does not make an incompatible server joinable.
- Open the Multiplayer filter controls and enable the crossplay option when your group spans platforms.
- Ask the host to confirm that the server is configured for the platforms your group uses.
- Refresh the browser after changing either setting; an already-loaded result set may not update immediately.
- If the server remains absent, temporarily include all platforms and remove the ping or region restriction to separate compatibility from visibility.
A server can therefore be visible to one friend and absent for another even when both are online. The difference may be an intentional platform restriction rather than a fault in either installation.
When the server is visible but you cannot join
A listing proves that the browser received an advertisement; it does not prove that your client can complete the session handshake. Treat visibility and joinability as separate tests.
Match the game branch and version
Arma Reforger has separate stable and Experimental branches. A client on the stable branch may not see, or may be unable to join, a server running Experimental content. Confirm that you and the server are on compatible branches, then update the game before trying again. If your friend can join but you cannot, compare the branch selected in each platform’s game properties and the version shown after updating.

Do not switch branches casually while troubleshooting a group session. Everyone who intends to play together should use the same compatible branch and current build. After changing a branch or installing an update, restart the game so the browser and session components reload the new version.
Install and synchronize required add-ons
Community servers may require user-generated add-ons. A missing, outdated, or mismatched add-on can stop the join even though the server is listed. Read the server’s required-content prompt, allow all listed items to download, and wait for updates to finish. If the download is stuck or the join continues to fail, exit the server attempt, update or reinstall the named add-ons, and retry from a fresh Multiplayer session.
Everyone in the group should use the same current versions of required content. One player with an old add-on can experience a different failure from another player with a complete installation, so compare the required-content list rather than assuming the server itself is broken.
Allow the connection through firewalls
Bohemia identifies firewalls and other network obstacles as possible causes of connection failures. If the list loads but the connection times out, check the local firewall on the affected computer or console network and allow Arma Reforger and its launcher components when prompted. A security product that silently blocks newly updated executables may need a new permission after an update.

On a managed home, school, or work network, router restrictions can block game traffic even when ordinary web browsing works. Test from a different permitted network if possible. If the alternate network succeeds, the original router or network policy is the likely cause; change only the necessary rule and avoid disabling the firewall entirely.

Dedicated-server checks for hosts
If you operate the server, investigate advertisement and reachability separately. Players cannot find a server that is not marked visible, and they cannot join if the public game port is not reachable.
Confirm visibility and platform settings
- Verify that the dedicated server is configured to be visible in the public browser.
- Confirm that its platform or cross-platform setting matches the players you intend to admit.
- Check the selected scenario and server type so players know which filters should reveal it.
- After changing configuration, restart the server or reload its configuration as required by your hosting method, then allow time for the listing to reappear.
Forward the documented UDP ports
Bohemia Interactive Community server-configuration documentation lists 2001/UDP as the default public game port. It lists 17777 as an optional port for A2S server queries. Forward the game port from the internet-facing router to the dedicated-server machine, and add the optional query port if you use tools or services that depend on A2S information.

Port numbers alone do not make a server visible. The server must also be running, advertised, permitted through the host firewall, and configured for the intended platforms. If players on the same local network can connect but internet players cannot, inspect the router’s forwarding target, public address, and upstream network restrictions.
Test from outside the host network
A local test can succeed because it bypasses the public route. Ask a player on another network to search and join after each change. Record whether the server is absent, visible but unreachable, or joinable; those outcomes point to different fixes.
Compare servers before choosing one
When several listings look similar, compare the fields that affect whether your group can actually play. The table below is a practical checklist rather than a quality ranking.

What not to change first
- Do not immediately reinstall the game. An empty browser is often corrected by reopening Multiplayer or resetting filters, while a reinstall does not change a region, ping, or crossplay setting.
- Do not disable every security control. Create a specific firewall allowance and restore normal protection after testing.
- Do not assume a server name identifies one host. Use its region, scenario, status, platform permissions, and required content to distinguish listings.
- Do not compare players on different branches. Align stable or Experimental status before judging whether a server is missing.
- Do not forward random ports. For the documented dedicated-server setup, start with UDP 2001 and use UDP 17777 only for optional A2S queries.
A repeatable recovery checklist
Use this short checklist whenever the browser breaks after an update, branch change, or network change:
- Return to the main menu and open Multiplayer directly.
- Wait about one minute, then refresh once.
- Reopen Multiplayer and restart the game if the list is still empty.
- Reset region, ping, platform, crossplay, scenario, and official/community filters.
- Confirm that you and the server use compatible stable or Experimental branches and current versions.
- Install or update every required add-on.
- Allow the game through the local firewall and test for router or network blocking.
- If you host, verify public visibility, platform settings, and UDP 2001; configure UDP 17777 only when A2S queries are required.
This order moves from client-side, reversible checks to host-side network work. It also leaves a clear record of what changed, making it easier to report a genuine service or server fault with useful details.
