What to record before opening either checkout
Create a small comparison record for the item you want. Copy the product details rather than relying on a photograph or a shortened title.

How to compare an Argos and Currys listing step by step
- Start with the model number. Search each retailer for the manufacturer’s full model code. If one listing shows only a marketing name, open its specifications or product details and locate the code. Do not treat a near match as identical.
- Match every material specification. Check size, colour, capacity, storage, connectivity, included accessories and any version or regional suffix. For an appliance, compare dimensions and the exact installation requirements as well as the headline capacity.
- Check stock in your location. A listing can be visible online without being available for delivery to your postcode or collection from a convenient store. Check the retailer’s live availability for the quantity you need.
- Choose the intended fulfilment route. Record the delivery date and charge, or the collection store and earliest collection time. If you need the item on a particular day, compare the promised timing rather than a general “available” label.
- Add the services you genuinely need. For a washing machine, for example, this could include installation or removal of the old appliance. Verify the service price, scope and appointment timing at each retailer’s item and checkout pages. Comparable service terms for a particular model are not established in the general comparison, so they must be checked live.
- Calculate the real total. Add the item price, delivery or collection-related charges and selected services. Keep optional extras separate so you can see both the minimum purchase and the practical ready-to-use cost.
- Read the applicable return terms. Confirm whether the item is eligible for a change-of-mind return, how long you have, how it must be packaged, and who arranges collection for a large appliance. Check the terms for the channel you will use, not only a general retailer summary.
- Save evidence of the offer. Keep the product page, model number, price, stock indication and checkout total. This is especially useful if you intend to ask Currys about its price promise.
- Make the decision using the complete terms. Choose the lower practical total if the products and service are genuinely equal. Choose the higher item price when it buys a meaningful advantage, such as a usable collection option, required installation or a more suitable return route.
How Currys’ price promise changes the comparison
Currys says its price promise can match an eligible lower price at another UK retailer. The policy applies before purchase and, according to the published terms, up to seven days after purchase. It is a potential route to a lower Currys price; it is not an automatic match for every Argos listing.
Conditions you need to verify
The product must be identical. The terms describe matching the make, size, colour, specification and model number, not merely the product family. Both retailers must have stock, and both must be ready to deliver on the relevant terms. If the competing listing is collection-only while the policy requires a deliverable offer, that difference can matter.

There is no single current delivery or installation price that can be applied to every product. Verify the live item and checkout pages for the exact model, destination and date. For a large appliance, a nominally cheaper order can become less attractive if it requires a separate installer, a trip to collect it or disposal of the old unit.

- Enter your postcode or location and confirm that each retailer can deliver or offer collection. Note the earliest date, not just a generic stock label.
- Add the installation and old-appliance removal options you would actually use. If one retailer does not offer a comparable service, price the alternative arrangement you would need.
- Compare the final checkout totals and the effort involved. A slightly higher total may be justified if it includes a date and service you can use; a lower total may not be a saving if the item cannot be delivered when required.
- Read the return and fault process before paying. A washing machine is bulky, so identify who handles collection if you change your mind or the unit arrives damaged.
