Argentina Citizenship by Investment: Eligibility, Investment Amounts and Application Steps (2026)

Argentina’s amended Citizenship Law provides a naturalization route for foreigners who make a qualifying “relevant investment,” without requiring a minimum period of residence. On 2 October 2026, the government announced two investment options: a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or an USD 800,000 subscription to a program-specific public security. The announcement said applications would be received during Q4 2026, but as of 4 October it did not give an opening date, a complete filing checklist or full terms for the security. This is a route to apply for citizenship, not a guarantee of approval.

Who can apply for Argentine citizenship by investment?

Article 2(2) of Citizenship Law 346, as amended by Decree 366/2025, allows a foreigner to apply after proving to the National Directorate of Migration (Dirección Nacional de Migraciones, or DNM) that they made a relevant investment in Argentina, regardless of how long they have resided there. In Spanish, the provision says: “Los extranjeros que acrediten ante la DIRECCIÓN NACIONAL DE MIGRACIONES, cualquiera sea el tiempo de su residencia, haber realizado una inversión relevante en el país.”

The law assigns the Ministry of Economy responsibility for defining what qualifies as a relevant investment and allows it to designate particular projects. The government’s 2 October 2026 announcement identifies two program options, but applicants should confirm that their intended contribution and supporting evidence meet the operative rules before sending funds.

Decree 366/2025 created the Citizenship by Investment Agency, while Decree 524/2025 describes its assessment and referral process. The Agency evaluates and recommends; DNM makes the final reasoned decision.

What investment amount does Argentina require?

The Argentine government’s 2 October 2026 program announcement sets out two principal options:

Announced option Amount What is established
National Treasury contribution USD 350,000 Described by the government as a direct, non-refundable contribution.
Program-specific public security USD 800,000 Subscription to a public security created specifically for the program. The announcement does not state its full terms, payment mechanics, maturity, return or liquidity.

Do not treat the USD 800,000 security as a donation, deposit or guaranteed-return investment: the published announcement does not establish those characteristics. It also does not provide a complete payment procedure for either option.

The government says funds must move through the formal financial system and comply with applicable anti-money-laundering, counter-terrorist-financing and financial-transparency requirements. Its announced screening covers identity, traceability and legality of funds, assets and financial position, jurisdictional risk, criminal and reputational background, and migration history.

Can a spouse or children apply with the investor?

The 2 October 2026 announcement allows the principal applicant’s spouse and children to apply if they prove the family relationship and make the contribution announced for their category:

Family applicant Announced contribution Conditions stated by the government
Spouse USD 100,000 Family relationship must be established.
Child aged 18–25 USD 100,000 Must be unmarried and have no children; family relationship must be established.
Child under 18 USD 25,000 Family relationship must be established.

The government’s example total for one principal applicant, a spouse and two minor children is USD 500,000. The announcement does not fully explain whether every family member must use the same payment mechanism as the principal applicant or specify the detailed relationship evidence required. Check the operative application rules for both points.

How does the application process work?

  1. Select an announced investment option and verify its terms. Confirm the applicable Ministry of Economy rules and official payment instructions. For the public security, obtain its full terms before deciding whether to subscribe; the launch announcement alone does not establish the instrument’s financial characteristics.
  2. Apply to the Citizenship by Investment Agency. Under Decree 524/2025, the foreign applicant applies to the Agency, which assesses whether the investment meets the relevant-investment rules.
  3. Complete the government review. If the Agency considers the investment relevant, the decree directs it to seek views from the security ministry, the Financial Information Unit (UIF), the criminal-record registry, RENAPER, SIDE and any other bodies it considers necessary. The Agency then sends DNM a reasoned report recommending approval or rejection. A finding that the investment is not relevant, or a negative recommendation from consulted bodies, leads the Agency to recommend rejection.
  4. Wait for DNM’s decision. DNM must issue a reasoned grant or refusal within 30 business days after receiving the Agency’s report. This clock covers the DNM decision stage only; it does not include the Agency’s assessment or time needed for external reports.
  5. Follow the official launch instructions. The government announced that intake would become operational during Q4 2026. As of 4 October 2026, its announcement did not specify an exact opening day, an investment-route filing portal or a complete document checklist.

How is this different from ordinary naturalization?

Argentina also has a separate residence-based route. The investment route does not state a prior-residence minimum; ordinary naturalization has a two-year legal and continuous residence requirement for applicants aged 18 or older.

Feature Investment route Ordinary residence route
Residence requirement No minimum residence period is stated for this route in Law 346. At least two years of legal and continuous residence immediately before applying; the updated law defines continuity as remaining in Argentina throughout the period without leaving.
Core qualification Proof of a relevant investment under Ministry of Economy rules. Applicant aged 18 or older, meeting the residence requirement and expressing the intention to naturalize before DNM.
Published financial requirement Government-announced options are USD 350,000 non-refundable Treasury contribution or USD 800,000 program-specific public security; family contributions may also apply. No investment contribution is stated in the ordinary-route rules described here.
Filing details established in the cited government materials Launch announcement gives no complete checklist or specific filing portal. DNM’s 3 October 2025 notice describes online filing through RaDEX for this route.

The RaDEX instructions should not be assumed to apply to investment applicants. DNM’s 3 October 2025 notice concerns ordinary naturalization and says applicants must be in Argentina and initially submit a DNI, an updated criminal-record certificate, proof of occupation or livelihood, and CUIT/CUIL. DNM may request additional documents. That list is not an established investment-route checklist.

What is not yet established about the investment application?

The government’s Q4 2026 intake announcement provides contribution choices and a broad review outline, not complete operational instructions. Before transferring funds or assembling an application, confirm the latest requirements with the Citizenship by Investment Agency or DNM, including:

  • the exact date applications open and the official filing address or portal;
  • the complete application forms, supporting-document checklist and evidence standards;
  • the public security’s terms, payment mechanics, maturity, return and liquidity;
  • how family contributions are paid and what relationship documents are required;
  • any ancillary charges and the end-to-end processing time.

Only the DNM decision period is specified in the cited procedural decree: 30 business days after DNM receives the Agency report. It is not a total application-processing estimate.
