Women’s sports are growing quickly and drawing investor interest, but the available evidence does not show that they are exempt from a wider sports valuation bubble—or that any particular team is worth its asking price. Revenue forecasts and deal activity point to opportunity; judging valuations requires comparable team-level financials and transaction data that the cited sources do not provide.
Why are women’s sports valuations rising?
The growth case rests on expanding revenues and increasing commercial interest. Deloitte’s March 2025 forecast put global women’s elite sports revenue above US$2.35 billion in 2025. Its later 2026 report describes 2025 revenue as more than US$2.4 billion and forecasts at least US$3 billion in 2026. The 2026 figure is a forecast, not a reported result, and the two figures for 2025 reflect different publications and estimates rather than a single audited total. Commercial income is a significant part of that outlook. Deloitte US projected US$1.26 billion in commercial revenue for 2025, or 54% of the projected total. Deloitte UK’s sport-level forecasts show why a single growth rate should not be applied to every league or team: the commercial trajectory varies across sports, and league-level revenue is not the same thing as an individual club’s finances.
Does investor interest prove there is a bubble exception?
No. Deloitte’s 2025 Sports Investment Outlook identifies the NWSL, WNBA and European football as key deal spaces in 2024 and says interest in the growth of women’s sports helped drive deal values. That is evidence of capital and attention entering the market, not a representative record of transaction multiples, realized returns or whether purchase prices were supported by future cash flows. A 2023 Deloitte Insights article also predicted that several women’s sports teams would exceed US$100 million in value in 2024. That was a forecast made ahead of 2024, not confirmation that those valuations were achieved or that investors earned a return. Deloitte Insights’ forecast.
Jennifer Haskel, knowledge and insights lead in Deloitte’s Sports Business Group, said: “The growth of women’s sport has continued to exceed expectations as various competitions, leagues, clubs, and athletes generate significant returns, despite limited resources.” “Significant returns” is Haskel’s characterization in the release; the statement does not supply a quantified return series for the market as a whole. Are women’s sports teams overvalued?
The cited figures cannot answer that for any specific team. Market-wide revenue estimates show the scale and direction of a category; they do not establish the value of an individual club, league or franchise. A price can anticipate growth, but it can also overstate what the asset can earn after operating costs, capital needs and contractual obligations.

- Revenue quality: the mix of media rights, sponsorship, ticketing, licensing and merchandise; renewal terms; and dependence on a small number of partners or one-off events.
- Profit and cash generation: operating costs, margins, free cash flow and the capital required to sustain growth—not revenue alone.
- Media-rights economics: contract length, exclusivity, distribution reach and the uncertainty of future renewals.
- Facilities and infrastructure: ownership or lease arrangements, training facilities and future investment commitments.
- Growth assumptions: the attendance and audience trends behind forecasts, tested across multiple seasons rather than inferred from a single breakout event or star.
Those inputs need to be compared consistently and the assumptions made explicit. The cited sources do not provide a comprehensive, like-for-like dataset of team-level prices, revenue, costs and cash flow, so they cannot establish current valuation multiples across women’s teams or show whether particular deals have produced returns.
Is women’s sports a better investment than men’s sports?
The available figures do not support a general ranking. A faster-growing market is not automatically a better investment: the purchase price, expected cash flows, costs, rights and risks matter. Nor do the cited Deloitte sources provide a consistent comparison of women’s and men’s team valuations, profitability or investor returns. Any defensible comparison would have to be between specific assets with comparable financial and contractual data, not between broad labels.

The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: women’s elite sports have meaningful projected revenue growth and documented investor attention. Whether that growth is already fully reflected—or over-reflected—in a particular price remains an asset-level question.
