Possibly—but comfort depends on your fit and tolerance, so there is no reliable blanket yes. Sony describes the WH-1000XM5 as designed for all-day comfort, and some owners report wearing it for hours without trouble. Others report pressure at the top of the head, warm ear pads, or discomfort during longer sessions. Those owner accounts are anecdotes, not a representative survey or a controlled test.
What Sony’s design says—and what it cannot promise
Sony lists the WH-1000XM5 as an over-ear headphone weighing approximately 8.82 oz on its US specifications page. Sony’s brochure gives the weight as 250 g and describes a slim, lightweight, stable headband. It says the earpads use “Soft Fit Leather,” intended to fit snugly with less pressure on the ears. Sony also labels a feature “Enjoy All-Day Comfort” on its product page.

These are manufacturer descriptions of the design, not independent evidence that every wearer can use the headphones all day. The brochure lists the WH-1000XM4 at 254 g, four grams heavier, but that small weight difference does not establish that the XM5 is more comfortable.

What longer-wear reports reveal
Owner accounts vary. In discussions of the XM5, some users describe soreness or pressure at the crown of the head after a few hours; one says readjusting the headband helped, while another reports becoming more comfortable over time. Other owners say the headphones remain comfortable for multi-hour flights. A separate account from a two-month owner describes the headphones as light and initially comfortable, but uncomfortable during sustained use because of warmth and ear-pad fit. These are individual reports, not evidence of how common any experience is.

Before buying, check the retailer’s current return policy so you know whether a practical trial is possible. A headband cushion cover is another option to investigate if crown pressure is the problem, but an owner’s mention of one does not show that a particular cover fits the XM5 or will resolve discomfort.
