Yes, but only for a specific PS5 player. Sony’s PULSE Explore earbuds are worth considering if you want an in-ear design, direct PlayStation Link audio on PS5 and PlayStation Portal, and the ability to mix PlayStation audio with Bluetooth audio from a phone. They are a weaker value at roughly $200 if you need long uninterrupted sessions, active noise cancellation, or a microphone that matches a dedicated gaming headset.
The buying decision therefore comes down to how often you will use those PlayStation-specific features. Portal owners and players who regularly switch between console and handheld use get the clearest benefit. Everyone else should compare an over-ear headset or another gaming earbud before paying full price.

What the PULSE Explore are designed to do
PULSE Explore are true wireless earbuds built around Sony’s PlayStation Link connection. Sony markets PlayStation Link as low-latency and lossless, making it the main technical argument for using these earbuds for games rather than treating them as ordinary Bluetooth earbuds.
On PS5, the included PlayStation Link USB adapter provides the wireless connection. On PlayStation Portal, the earbuds connect directly through PlayStation Link, avoiding the need for an additional Bluetooth transmitter. That direct Portal connection is the product’s most distinctive advantage: many otherwise suitable wireless earbuds cannot connect to Portal in the same way.

- Next Generation Gaming Audio - Experience extraordinary lifelike sound in yur favorite games.

- Command and Control - Lead your squad to victory with crystal-clear voice capture and easy-access controls.
- Built for Adventure - Enjoy lifelike sound wherever you go with a portable design and charging case.
Sony also documents simultaneous audio from a PlayStation Link device and a Bluetooth device. In practical terms, you can hear PS5 or Portal audio while keeping a phone connected for another audio source. Whether that is useful depends on your routine, but it is a meaningful feature for players who monitor a call, listen to a second device, or move between gaming and mobile audio.
Compatibility and what is in the box
Sony lists compatibility with PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC, Mac, and mobile devices. The included USB adapter is used for PS5, PC, and Mac; Portal uses its built-in PlayStation Link support. Bluetooth pairing covers compatible mobile devices and other Bluetooth listening situations.
The US purchase listing includes the earbuds, PlayStation Link USB adapter, charging case, several ear-tip sizes, USB cable, and manual. Sony’s UK listing also identifies a carrying case. Package contents can vary by region, so check the local listing if a case or a particular accessory matters to you.

Basic PS5 setup
- Connect the supplied PlayStation Link USB adapter to the PS5.
- Charge the earbuds and place them in pairing range of the adapter.
- Use the pairing control on the earbuds or case as described in the supplied manual, then complete the PS5’s connection prompt.
- For a phone, pair separately over Bluetooth; the PlayStation Link and Bluetooth connections can operate at the same time.
The hardware is therefore straightforward for PS5 and Portal owners, but the value depends on using this connection often. If you only need occasional wireless audio from a console, a less specialized product may give you more battery or a better microphone for similar money.
Gaming performance: latency and sound
Low latency is the strongest technical case
SoundGuys describes PlayStation Link latency as a strength, and RTINGS reports low latency when the USB transmitter is used. That matters for games where an action and its sound need to line up: competitive shooters, rhythm games, and timing-sensitive titles benefit more than turn-based or slower games.
“Lossless” and “low latency” are Sony’s positioning for PlayStation Link, while the independent latency assessments above are review findings rather than a promise that every game or setup will feel identical. Wireless interference, game settings, and the connected device can still affect the experience.

- EASY HANDS- FREE CALLING: A built-in microphone provides you with hands-free calling. No need to even take your phone from your pocket.
Planar magnetic drivers in a true wireless design
SoundGuys identifies the PULSE Explore as one of the first true wireless models to use planar magnetic drivers. That is an interesting hardware choice and helps explain why the earbuds are marketed as gaming-focused rather than as a generic pair of Bluetooth buds.

Sound quality remains subjective. The defensible conclusion is that the PlayStation Link connection offers the clearest gaming benefit; individual judgments about tonal balance, detail, bass, and imaging depend on ear-tip seal, game mix, and personal preference. Do not buy them solely because a planar driver specification sounds impressive on paper.
Microphone quality and multiplayer chat
The earbuds contain two hidden microphones, and Sony says they use AI-enhanced noise rejection. Independent assessments are less enthusiastic about voice quality. TechRadar describes the microphones as serviceable for earbuds but inferior to a dedicated boom microphone, while RTINGS rates recording quality as sub-par.

- OPEN EAR DESIGN: Enjoy true open ear listening that keeps you connected to your surroundings while immersing you in your favorite music or podcast. Whether you’re at work, on the move, or relaxing at home, LinkBuds Clip earbuds let you stay aware of what’s happening around you without ever tuning out.
- SECURE AND COMFORTABLE FIT: Experience feather-light comfort and a secure, ergonomic fit designed for all-day wear. Customizable Pair with the Air Fitting Cushions to ensure the earbuds stay comfortably in place, so you can enjoy your music and calls without distraction.
- CRYSTAL CLEAR CALLS, POWERED BY AI: Take calls with confidence wherever you are, powered by advanced AI Voice Pickup Technology. Dual microphones and intelligent noise reduction algorithms work together to isolate your voice, filtering out background sounds—even in busy environments. A speech vibration sensor detects your voice through bone conduction, ensuring every conversation sounds natural and uninterrupted, whether you’re at home, in the office, or on the go.
- THREE LISTENING MODES: Easily adapt your listening experience to any environment with three tap-switchable modes: Standard for everyday use, Voice Boost for noisy places, and Sound Leakage Reduction for quiet settings. Just tap your earbuds to find the perfect sound for every moment.
- LONG BATTERY LIFE WITH QUICK CHARGING: Keep your music and calls going all day with up to 37 hours of battery life (up to 9 hours with the earbuds and up to 28 hours with the charging case). A quick 3-minute charge gives you up to an extra hour of listening, so you’re always ready for what’s next.
That distinction matters most in multiplayer. If you mainly play single-player games, occasional party chat may be perfectly adequate. If clear communication is central to ranked play, streaming, or long sessions with a regular squad, an over-ear headset with a dedicated microphone is the safer choice. The PULSE Explore microphone is a convenience feature, not its strongest reason to buy.
Battery life, charging and everyday use
Sony rates the earbuds for up to five hours per charge, with up to ten additional hours from the charging case. These are manufacturer maximum claims, not a guarantee for every listening volume, microphone use pattern, wireless environment, or connected device.

That endurance is the main practical weakness of an approximately $200-class product. A short gaming session is fine, and the case extends total time away from a charger, but players who regularly spend an entire workday or a long weekend session in audio should plan charging breaks. TechRadar’s current buying guide characterizes the runtime as middling.
Best Value
- Note : If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not worn properly in your ears, you may not obtain the correct sound qualities or call performance. Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ear
- Long battery life of up to 25 hours
- DSEE restores high frequency sounds lost in compression
- Splash-proof and sweat-proof with an IPX4 rating
- Easier, clearer hands-free calling
The earbuds are also bulkier than some everyday mobile earbuds, according to SoundGuys. Sony supplies multiple ear-tip sizes, but comfort and acoustic seal depend on the shape of your ears. An earbud that seals well for one person can loosen or cause pressure for another, so fit remains an individual decision rather than a guaranteed specification.
Sony does not advertise an IP rating for the product. SoundGuys lists the lack of an IP rating as a disadvantage for people seeking everyday outdoor earbuds. Treat them as gaming electronics rather than as a documented water-resistant sports model.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Price and value by market
Prices in the available coverage are reference points, not a universal current street price. Sony’s UK PlayStation listing showed £154.99 when accessed in 2026. SoundGuys referred to a $199 MSRP in its December 2023 review, while TechRadar’s review listed $199.99 / £199.99 / AU$329. Those review-era figures should not be treated as today’s US, UK, or Australian checkout price.
Check the price in your own country on the day you buy. At full price, the earbuds make the most sense when you will routinely use Portal’s direct PlayStation Link connection or the PlayStation/Bluetooth simultaneous-audio feature. If you mainly want ordinary PS5 sound, their specialization is harder to justify. SoundGuys’ recommendation was to try to wait for a sale, which improves the value equation without changing the product’s battery or microphone limitations.
How they compare with the main alternatives
| Model | Design and connection focus | Battery or microphone information | Why consider it | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony PULSE Explore | In-ear; PlayStation Link through the PS5 adapter and directly to Portal; Bluetooth also supported. | Up to five hours in the earbuds plus up to ten additional hours from the case; hidden AI-noise-rejection microphones. | Best fit for players who prioritize Portal and PlayStation Link. | No advertised ANC; independent microphone reviews are mixed. |
| Sony PULSE Elite | Over-ear PlayStation headset with Portal compatibility. | Sony lists up to 30 hours of battery life and a retractable microphone. | Better match for people who prefer a conventional headset and longer sessions. | Over-ear size and feel are not suitable for everyone. |
| Sony INZONE Buds | Gaming earbuds aimed at longer use and noise cancellation. | TechRadar says they offer greater battery life and noise cancelling. | Worth comparing if endurance and isolation matter more than Portal’s direct connection. | They do not have the same direct-to-Portal connection as PULSE Explore. |
| SteelSeries Tusq | Wired earbuds with a detachable microphone and broad device compatibility. | Wired design; current local price not stated in the reviewed material. | Useful when you want a lower-cost, wired option and a more explicit microphone solution. | Confirm the cable connection and current regional price before buying. |
| SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds | Gaming-earbud alternative covered in a 2026 TechRadar guide. | Current comparative specifications not stated in the reviewed material. | A possible all-round alternative at a lower listed price in that guide. | Verify current PS5 and Portal compatibility before making a purchase decision. |
Choose PULSE Explore if these scenarios sound like you
- You use PlayStation Portal regularly: direct PlayStation Link audio avoids adding a separate transmitter.
- You want earbuds, not a headband: the in-ear format is the central ergonomic benefit.
- You value synchronized wireless game audio: PlayStation Link’s low-latency performance is the strongest reason to prefer this model.
- You switch between console and phone audio: simultaneous PlayStation Link and Bluetooth connectivity can reduce device swapping.
Compare alternatives first if these are your priorities
- Long uninterrupted sessions: the rated earbud runtime is limited compared with the longer-running over-ear option listed above.
- Noise cancellation or stronger isolation: Sony does not advertise ANC, and independent reviews identify isolation limitations.
- Competitive voice chat: a dedicated boom microphone is likely to outperform the hidden microphones here.
- Conventional comfort: if you dislike in-ear pressure or struggle to maintain a seal, an over-ear headset may be more comfortable.
- Outdoor everyday use: the lack of an IP rating means there is no stated water-resistance protection to rely on.
Bottom line for PS5 buyers
PULSE Explore is a specialized accessory rather than an automatic upgrade for every PS5 owner. Buy it when the combination of earbuds, PlayStation Link, direct Portal support, and simultaneous Bluetooth audio solves a problem you actually have. Its low-latency connection is convincing for gaming, and the form factor is appealing if you do not want a headset.
Skip or delay the purchase when your priorities are all-day battery life, active noise cancellation, outdoor durability, or the clearest possible multiplayer microphone. In those cases, compare the PULSE Elite, INZONE Buds, a wired earbud with a detachable microphone, or another gaming-earbud model after checking current prices and Portal compatibility.
