The PLYR 720 therefore trades some of the Crusher 720’s travel-oriented simplicity and battery claim for a more gaming-specific connection and microphone arrangement. Its open-back design is also a poor choice when you need to isolate yourself from other people or keep sound from leaking into a quiet cabin.

How good is the Crusher 720 for gaming?
What works well
The Crusher 720 supports low-latency audio, which helps keep sound effects closer to the action on screen than a connection with obvious delay. THX Spatial Audio is intended to create a more spacious presentation, and the adjustable Crusher Bass setting can make explosions, engines and other low-frequency effects unusually physical. That combination suits cinematic single-player games, racing titles and players who enjoy an emphatic soundtrack.
Bluetooth convenience also makes the headset useful for games on devices that accept standard Bluetooth audio. A 3.5 mm connection gives you a wired fallback for equipment that does not handle Bluetooth reliably, although the exact behavior of the headset when wired should be checked in the supplied manual.
Platform limitations matter
Skullcandy’s support information specifically says that Xbox One and PS4 do not support Bluetooth audio headsets. In practice, that means pairing the Crusher 720 directly with those consoles is not a dependable gaming plan. Nintendo Switch supports Bluetooth audio, so the 720 is more straightforward there, subject to the Switch’s own Bluetooth limitations and supported profiles.

Where it falls short for competitive play
Crusher Bass is a sound preference, not a guarantee of accurate positional imaging. Raising the bass can mask quieter footsteps, reload sounds or directional details that matter in competitive shooters. THX Spatial Audio may make a game feel wider, but the best setting depends on the title and your ears; compare it with the normal stereo mode and reduce Crusher Bass if detail is harder to place.
The built-in microphone is convenient for occasional multiplayer chat, but a headset with a dedicated boom microphone remains the safer choice for frequent team communication. If you need a 2.4 GHz console or PC link and a removable boom, the PLYR 720 is the more appropriate model in this pair.
Can you use Crusher 720 for calls?
Features for everyday conversations
Yes. The Crusher 720 has a Clear Voice Smart Mic, Bluetooth calling support and sidetone. Sidetone feeds some of your own voice back to you, making it easier to judge your speaking volume when the earcups are closed around your ears.
Skullcandy lists support for common calling and collaboration services including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet and Discord. That makes the 720 suitable for work calls, family conversations and gaming chat without attaching a separate microphone.

Quality expectations
The microphone should be treated as an everyday communication feature, not a studio recording system. Voice quality depends on Bluetooth mode, the computer or phone’s microphone handling and background noise. In a quiet room it should be practical; in a busy street, office or aircraft cabin, competing sound can still affect intelligibility. If your work depends on consistently polished speech, use a dedicated microphone or a gaming headset with a boom.

Is the Crusher 720 good for travel and flights?

Skullcandy’s 2026 specification claims up to 65 hours of battery life, enough for several long journeys between charges. The same specification says a 10-minute rapid charge can provide up to 4 hours of playback, useful when you discover an empty battery shortly before leaving.
The 3.5 mm input is also useful on devices where Bluetooth is restricted or unavailable. Pack the appropriate airline or seat-back adapter if your carrier uses a two-prong socket; the adapter requirement comes from the aircraft, not from the headphone itself.
Why the weight can become tiring
At 362.8 g, the Crusher 720 is a heavy headphone. That does not make it unusable, but the weight can become noticeable during a full flight or a long rail journey, especially if the fit puts pressure on your head or glasses. Try the clamping force and pad comfort for at least 30 minutes before committing to it as your regular travel pair.

What the battery figure does and does not mean
The 65-hour number is an “up to” manufacturer claim, so actual runtime changes with volume, Bluetooth behavior, bass settings and other operating conditions. Rapid charging is similarly a stated maximum rather than a promise that every charge cycle will produce exactly the same playback time.
Does Crusher 720 have ANC?
No active noise cancellation is presented for the Crusher 720 on Skullcandy’s official support information. Instead, it has adjustable Stay-Aware mode. That mode uses the headphone’s microphones to amplify ambient sound, allowing you to hear announcements or nearby people without removing the earcups.
Stay-Aware is the opposite of ANC: it increases awareness rather than generating an opposing signal to reduce low-frequency noise. The earcups may still provide some passive isolation, but you should not expect the steady engine rumble reduction associated with true ANC headphones. For frequent flights, buses or open-plan offices, that is the 720’s largest travel drawback.
What does the Crusher sound like?
The defining feature is adjustable Crusher Bass. THX Spatial Audio provides an optional spatial presentation for supported content and gaming. Spatial processing can be engaging, but it is not automatically more accurate. Some tracks sound clearer in ordinary stereo, and some competitive players prefer stereo because it gives them a more familiar positional reference. Treat both Crusher Bass and spatial audio as settings to tune for the content rather than features that should remain maximized all the time.
Listeners who prioritize a flat or highly analytical response should audition the 720 or compare its EQ modes before buying. Its character is deliberately energetic, not a neutral-monitoring reference.
Which model should you choose?
Choose Crusher 720 when
- You want one headphone for music, movies, calls and occasional gaming.
- Long battery life and rapid top-ups matter more than the lowest possible weight.
- You enjoy strong, adjustable bass and an optional spatial effect.

Game audio works but the microphone does not
This usually indicates a Bluetooth profile or platform limitation rather than a defective microphone. Spatial audio sounds echoey or makes positioning worse
Disable THX Spatial Audio temporarily and compare the game’s normal stereo mix. If stereo is easier to place, leave spatial processing off for competitive matches and use it only for single-player games or films.
Bass overwhelms speech
Lower Crusher Bass before changing the source’s volume. Excessive low-frequency energy can mask dialogue and subtle effects; reducing it preserves more detail without forcing you to listen louder.
Outside noise remains distracting
Stay-Aware is not a noise-cancelling mode. Turn it off when you want the least ambient sound, improve the physical seal, or choose a true ANC model if aircraft and transit noise are a primary requirement.
Bottom line
The Skullcandy Crusher 720 is a compelling general-purpose headphone for listeners who want pronounced bass, dependable Bluetooth calls and unusually long battery endurance. It can handle casual gaming, especially on compatible Bluetooth devices, but console support and the built-in microphone limit it as a serious competitive headset. For flights, the folding design and battery are useful; the 362.8 g weight and absence of ANC are significant trade-offs. Buy the Crusher 720 for bass and versatility, or move to the Crusher PLYR 720 when a dedicated gaming connection and boom microphone matter more.
