Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Yes—reported U.S. list prices for the Galaxy S26, S26 Plus, and S26 Ultra rose by $100 on October 1, 2026. Tom’s Guide reported the change, while Samsung’s own March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet confirms the earlier launch prices and warns that prices can change without notice. The evidence does not show that every Samsung phone became more expensive worldwide: the update covers named U.S. Galaxy S26 models, and the Galaxy S26 FE was reported unchanged.
What changed in Galaxy S26 pricing?
The October 1 report applies to U.S. starting configurations. These are reported list prices, not a promise that every retailer, carrier, or promotion displays the same amount today.
| Model and storage | Launch-period U.S. price | Reported October 1, 2026 price | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26, 256GB | $899 | $999 | +$100 |
| Galaxy S26, 512GB | Not stated in the cited launch baseline | $1,199 | Reported current list price |
| Galaxy S26 Plus, 256GB | $1,099 | $1,199 | +$100 |
| Galaxy S26 Plus, 512GB | Not stated in the cited launch baseline | $1,399 | Reported current list price |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 256GB | $1,299 | $1,399 | +$100 |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 512GB | Not stated in the cited launch baseline | $1,599 | Reported current list price |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra, 1TB | Not stated in the cited launch baseline | $1,999 | Reported current list price |
| Galaxy S26 FE | Not stated | $699 | No change reported in this update |
The launch figures are supported by Associated Press coverage from February 25, 2026, and Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet. The October figures come from Tom’s Guide’s dated report; no official Samsung U.S. notice confirming that specific October adjustment was available in the evidence cited here.
Does this mean every Samsung phone is getting pricier?
No. “Every Samsung phone” is broader than the evidence supports. The reported adjustment names three U.S. Galaxy S26 variants and says the S26 FE did not change in that update. Samsung sells different models, storage tiers, and regional versions, and its official price material says prices may change without notice.

Prices outside the United States cannot be inferred from the U.S. figures. Currency conversion, local taxes, carrier agreements, inventory, and promotions all affect the amount a buyer actually pays. Samsung’s India purchase information also notes that promotions and exchange offers vary by region or carrier.
Why are Samsung phones getting more expensive?
Component and memory pressure
Samsung’s July 30, 2026, second-quarter results said its mobile earnings declined amid elevated component-cost pressure across the industry. Samsung expected higher component costs and memory supply constraints to continue through the second half of 2026. The company also cited tight memory supply and strong demand from servers and artificial-intelligence systems.
That explains the market context, but it does not prove that memory costs alone caused each phone’s October increase. The available evidence does not break the $100 adjustment into individual cost components.

More expensive hardware and development
Drew Blackard, Samsung America’s senior vice president of mobile product management, told Tom’s Guide that Samsung had maintained prices for a long period but must reassess each generation as it adds custom processors, larger batteries, improved displays, camera technology, and more artificial-intelligence features. His explanation describes the factors Samsung considers; it is not a model-by-model accounting of the price rise.
Memory shortages, materials, and tariffs
Tom’s Guide separately attributed to Won-Joon Choi, chief operating officer of Samsung’s mobile business, the statement that memory shortages made a “significant contribution” to higher prices. The same report also cited tariffs and rising materials costs. These are reported company explanations, not proof that one factor determined every regional price.
A wider smartphone-market increase
Counterpoint Research reported that global existing-smartphone retail prices had risen an average of 15% so far in 2026, while new smartphone launch prices were 25% higher year over year. Those are global market estimates, not Samsung-only measurements, and they should not be read as a 15% or 25% increase on every Galaxy handset.

How much is the Galaxy S26 now?
For the U.S. entry-storage models covered by the October report, the reported prices are $999 for the 256GB Galaxy S26, $1,199 for the 256GB S26 Plus, and $1,399 for the 256GB S26 Ultra. The reported higher-storage prices are $1,199 for the 512GB S26, $1,399 for the 512GB S26 Plus, $1,599 for the 512GB Ultra, and $1,999 for the 1TB Ultra.
Check the exact configuration at Samsung, major retailers, and your carrier before buying. A promotional price, installment plan, or trade-in credit can make the checkout total different from the list price, and eligibility rules may apply.

1. Compare the same phone and storage tier
Match model, storage, color availability, unlocked or carrier version, taxes, shipping, and any required plan. Comparing a discounted 256GB phone with a full-price 512GB phone can make a price difference look larger or smaller than it really is.

2. Calculate the net upgrade cost
Write down the cash price, financing total, required contract or plan, and confirmed trade-in credit. Treat promotional credits as conditional until the phone’s eligibility, condition, and inspection requirements are clear.
3. Check exchange eligibility before valuing an old phone
Samsung’s India information says qualifying exchange credit can include devices from other brands, but terms and availability vary by market. Do not assume an Indian offer, credit amount, or eligible-device list applies in the United States or elsewhere.
4. Consider a Galaxy A-series model
If you do not need the S26 line’s highest-end processor, cameras, display features, or artificial-intelligence tools, a current Galaxy A-series phone may cost less. Samsung’s official U.S. price sheet lists A-series devices, but local models and prices change, so compare the specific phone available in your market.

5. Keep your current phone if it still works
Compare the cost of keeping your existing handset—including battery replacement or repairs—with the net cost of the upgrade. Buying later may not guarantee a lower price, but avoiding an unnecessary purchase is the only saving that does not depend on a future promotion.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which Galaxy S26 model offers the best value?
There is no universal winner because the value of each tier depends on the feature you actually need.
- Galaxy S26: the lowest reported entry price in the flagship line and the logical choice if you want the S-series experience without paying for the Plus or Ultra tier.
- Galaxy S26 Plus: costs $200 more than the reported 256GB S26 price and makes sense only if its larger-screen or other model-specific features matter to you.
- Galaxy S26 Ultra: the most expensive option, with the broadest feature set in the range; its premium is difficult to justify if you will not use its camera, display, performance, or storage advantages.
- Galaxy S26 FE: reported at $699 and unchanged in the October update, making it the lower-priced S26-family option in the cited U.S. figures, subject to local availability and specifications.
- Galaxy A-series: worth checking when flagship hardware is unnecessary and the priority is a lower purchase price.
What the price increase does—and does not—tell us
The reported $100 increases show that Samsung’s launch MSRP is not permanently fixed. They do not establish a worldwide increase, a change to every Galaxy model, or the exact cost impact of memory, tariffs, materials, and new features on each device. Retailer discounts and carrier promotions can also produce a lower transaction price than the list figures.
