Check the exact unit’s SIM-lock status, then confirm that its model is accepted by your carrier and supports the service you need.
What “unlocked” means for a Razer phone
A SIM-unlocked phone can accept a SIM from another carrier, subject to that carrier’s activation rules. Network compatibility is a separate question: the phone must support the carrier’s frequencies and required services, and the carrier must accept the specific device. Rogers’ BYOD compatibility guidance treats frequency support, unlock status, and VoLTE requirements as distinct checks.

That distinction matters for used Razer phones. A listing that says “unlocked” is making a claim about that individual handset; it does not establish the status of every phone in the same model line.

Which Razer model do you have?
The original Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2 have different published radio specifications. Identify the generation and exact model number before relying on compatibility information. Razer’s support information identifies the Phone 2 model as RZ35-0259; its specifications are not a blanket guarantee for every Razer handset or carrier.

What Razer says about Phone 2 network support
Razer Support says model RZ35-0259 works with GSM networks such as AT&T and T-Mobile, and with Verizon’s 4G LTE network. That is model-level network guidance, not proof that a given phone is SIM-unlocked or that it can be activated on every current plan with every feature. See Razer’s network compatibility answer, updated 29 June 2023.
Razer’s Phone 2 support page also notes that live support for the device is no longer available. Confirm present-day requirements with the carrier that will activate the phone rather than treating the manufacturer’s older compatibility statement as a current service guarantee: Razer Phone 2 support and FAQs.

How to check a specific used Razer phone
- Identify the handset. Check the model number in the phone’s settings or on its device information/label, and confirm whether it is the original Razer Phone or Phone 2.
- Confirm the lock status. Ask the seller or carrier to verify that the specific unit is SIM-unlocked. If possible, insert a working SIM from the intended carrier and check whether it registers on the network. A SIM test is useful, but the carrier should still confirm that the IMEI is eligible for activation.
- Check carrier compatibility for the exact model. Compare the phone’s supported bands with the carrier’s current requirements, then verify acceptance and service features such as VoLTE where applicable. Do not infer compatibility merely from one matching band or from the phone accepting a SIM.
- Resolve uncertainty before buying or switching. Have the carrier or seller check the exact device and IMEI, and get the lock status confirmed for that unit. If the seller cannot substantiate an “unlocked” claim, treat it as unverified.
If a Razer Phone 2 shows “NO SIM CARD” on Verizon
For the Verizon “NO SIM CARD” issue covered in its support article, Razer advises selecting LTE/3G/2G as the preferred network type and restarting the phone. Follow this only as troubleshooting for the documented issue; it is not a universal fix for SIM errors or proof of unlock status. The guidance was updated 20 February 2025: Razer Phone Verizon “NO SIM CARD” troubleshooting.
