No. Rockstar has not confirmed that it is preparing PlayStation 5 remasters of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Grand Theft Auto IV in the official sources reviewed. Reports in July 2025 drew attention to unusual options on Rockstar support pages, but those indirect clues do not establish that either game is in development for PS5.
What sparked the PS5 remaster rumors?
The speculation followed reports of two separate support-page anomalies in July 2025. Neither was an announcement from Rockstar, and neither confirms a remaster, port, or release plan.

Red Dead Online migration option
On July 12, 2025, PC Gamer reported that a Rockstar support page for Red Dead Online had briefly shown an “Online Migration” option. The report noted that the wording resembled a feature associated with the current-generation release of Grand Theft Auto Online, but treated it as a possible clue rather than confirmation: PC Gamer’s July 12 report.
GTA IV platform option
PC Gamer also cited a user-posted screenshot that appeared to show PlayStation 4 as a platform option on a Grand Theft Auto IV support page, even though the game did not have a PS4 release at the time. GamesRadar reported the same week that the options had been removed after being noticed. A transient support-page entry or screenshot is indirect evidence; it does not say what Rockstar planned, if anything: GamesRadar’s July 11 report.

What Rockstar has officially established
Rockstar said in November 2020 that the PlayStation 4 versions of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto V would be playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. That describes playing existing PS4 releases on the newer console; it is not an announcement of a native PS5 remaster: Rockstar’s backward-compatibility announcement.
Rockstar’s store lists Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition among its games, but the listings do not identify either as a PS5 remaster: Rockstar Games Store. Rockstar’s October 1, 2026 update notes for Grand Theft Auto V concern support for that separate game and do not announce either rumored project: GTA V title update notes. The absence of an announcement in these materials does not prove a project is not in development.
Can you play these games on PS5 now?
Red Dead Redemption 2
Yes. Rockstar’s 2020 statement says the existing PS4 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. That does not make it a separate PS5 edition or remaster, and the sources cited here do not establish a PS5 upgrade entitlement.

Grand Theft Auto IV
The cited material does not establish a PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto IV. Rockstar’s store lists Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition, but that listing alone does not show PS5 availability. Do not read the reported support-page platform option as confirmation of compatibility or a new edition.
Do not confuse the two Red Dead Redemption games
Rockstar support separately says the PS4 version of the original Red Dead Redemption is backward compatible on PS5: Rockstar’s PlayStation 4 backward-compatibility notice. That notice concerns the first game, not Red Dead Redemption 2.

Because Rockstar has not confirmed either project in the official sources reviewed, there are no established details here about a PS5 release, upgrade path, features, price, or schedule. It is also not possible to determine from the reported support-page anomalies whether they referred to a remaster, a port, another kind of re-release, or an error. Those terms are not interchangeable: backward compatibility means playing an existing release on a newer console, while a remaster or port would be a separately developed release.
