No—Nintendo has not officially announced a collection of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks for Switch or Switch 2. As of October 17, 2026, the games’ supposed return remains an unverified rumor. Nintendo’s September 8, 2026 Zelda 40th Anniversary announcement and accompanying Direct page list other projects, but neither lists a DS collection, remaster or port of these two adventures.
What Nintendo has actually announced for Zelda’s 40th anniversary
Nintendo’s confirmed 2026 anniversary plans include The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2, a limited 40th Anniversary Switch 2 system and accessories, concerts, Nintendo Today content and a live-action Zelda film. The official announcement materials do not name Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks or a package containing both games.

The anniversary Switch 2 is not a game collection
Nintendo says the Japanese Nintendo Switch 2 40th Anniversary Edition launches on October 29, 2026, for ¥62,980 including tax. It is hardware and does not include a game. Buying that system therefore does not provide either DS title, nor does the hardware announcement confirm a future collection.

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks are connected Nintendo DS adventures rather than unrelated entries that fans have grouped together after the fact.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Nintendo’s official timeline describes Link’s objective as finding the items needed to forge the Phantom Sword and defeat Bellum. The game was designed around Nintendo DS touch controls, including stylus-based movement, combat and item use.
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
The follow-up moves the action to a new Hyrule kingdom. Link and Princess Zelda investigate the disappearance of the Spirit Tracks, with Link operating a train as a central part of exploration. Nintendo’s 2009 release notice called it a sequel to the acclaimed Phantom Hourglass and said it added many new features; it launched for Nintendo DS.

The developers confirm the sequel relationship
In Nintendo’s Iwata Asks interview, producer Eiji Aonuma identified himself as the producer of both Spirit Tracks and its predecessor, Phantom Hourglass. The same interview explicitly describes progressing from the first game into the second. That shared lineage explains the appeal of a double-feature release, but it is not evidence that Nintendo has approved one.

Online posts, retailer placeholders or a listing for an old cartridge cannot substitute for a Nintendo announcement. Until Nintendo publishes a product page or Direct confirmation, headlines saying the collection is “officially returning” should be treated as unverified.

What a real collection would need to solve
The original releases depend heavily on the DS’s two-screen, stylus-driven interface. If Nintendo announces a modern version, these are the practical details to check before buying:
- Platform: whether it runs on Switch, Switch 2 or a Nintendo Classics service.
- Control replacement: how touch movement, drawing and stylus gestures are mapped to Joy-Con, a Pro Controller or a touchscreen.
- Display design: how the DS’s dual screens are arranged on a television and in handheld mode, and whether the artwork is rendered at a higher resolution.
- Save compatibility: whether saves from an earlier release can transfer; no such compatibility has been announced.
- Packaging: whether both games come with one purchase or are sold separately, and whether the release is physical, digital or both.
- Release scope: the date, regions, languages and any differences between Switch and Switch 2 editions.
These are decision points for a confirmed product, not specifications of an existing one. Nintendo has supplied none of them for the rumored collection.

How to play the originals now
Readers who want to play today must look for the original Nintendo DS releases: Phantom Hourglass and, separately, Spirit Tracks. Physical copies are generally found through second-hand game retailers and marketplace listings rather than a newly announced Nintendo collection.
- Check that the listing is for the Nintendo DS game, not a strategy guide, reproduction cartridge or empty case.
- Confirm the cartridge label, region and language match the Nintendo DS system you intend to use.
- Ask whether the cartridge has been tested and whether the seller accepts returns; used batteries, labels and cases can vary by condition.
- Compare complete-in-box and cartridge-only prices separately. A high collector price reflects condition or scarcity, not proof of a new Nintendo release.
- Be cautious with listings that use “remastered,” “Switch” or “Switch 2” in the title without an official Nintendo product page.
Because no current Nintendo digital or Switch release for these DS games has been announced in the cited anniversary materials, a marketplace listing for an original cartridge should not be presented as confirmation of a modern collection.

What to watch for next
A genuine announcement would normally provide Nintendo branding, a named platform, a release date or window and concrete information about controls and purchasing. It may arrive in a future Nintendo Direct or on an official Zelda product page, but there is no announced date for such an event. Until those details appear, the accurate answer to “Are Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks coming back on Switch 2?” is no confirmed collection—only an unverified claim.
