Marshall Major V headphones are worth considering for everyday listening and quieter commutes if you want a lightweight, foldable on-ear design and exceptionally long rated battery life. They are a poor fit for loud buses, trains, or flights if you need active noise cancellation: Major V has no ANC, and its ear pads provide passive isolation only. The other key question is fit—these pads sit directly on your ears, so try them on if you can, especially for long sessions or if you wear glasses.
Who should consider the Major V?
A good match for quieter trips and daily listening
Consider Major V if you prefer on-ear headphones to bulky over-ear models, value portability, and often listen in relatively quiet places. Marshall lists a foldable design and a weight of 186 g (6.56 oz); SoundGuys measured 187 g and found the folded headphones compact. The review also notes that no carrying case is included. Marshall’s specifications and SoundGuys’ August 2024 review support those details.

A poor match for noisy commutes
Major V does not have active noise cancellation. Its pads can provide passive isolation, but they should not be treated as a substitute for ANC or as a way to block the sound of transit. SoundGuys says the headphones are not ideal for long, noisy commutes. If reducing outside noise is central to your purchase, choose a model with ANC and assess its isolation for the transport you actually use rather than raising the volume to overpower noise.

The ear cushions rest on the ears rather than surrounding them. SoundGuys found the cushioning substantial, but described the clamping force as low and observed movement when shaking the head. Those are one reviewer’s findings, not a guarantee of how the headphones will feel on every person. Ear pressure and comfort vary, particularly over a long listening session.
#1 Best Overall
- MARSHALL SIGNATURE SOUND: Experience powerful bass, smooth mids and crisp treble that are expertly balanced.
- 100+ HOURS OF WIRELESS PLAYTIME: Listen to your favourite music for days without needing to charge.
- RUGGED AND FOLDABLE DESIGN: Major V is built to last and to be easily packed away with you wherever you go.
- CUSTOMIZABLE M-BUTTON: Instantly access Spotify Tap or your EQ settings or voice assistant at the press of a finger.
- WIRELESS CHARGING: Experience quick charging without the hassle of wires.
- Try them on before buying if possible, especially if you wear glasses or are sensitive to pressure on your ears.
- For exercise or frequent movement, consider the review’s observation that the headphones shifted during head shaking; fit will depend on your head and activity.
- Do not assume the lack of a case is a problem if you carry them casually, but account for it if you want protection in a packed bag.
How long does the battery last?
Marshall rates Major V for “100+ hours of wireless playtime.” That is a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed everyday result. In a two-week test, SoundGuys measured 92 hours and 52 minutes—nearly, but not quite, the rated figure. The reviewer notes that listening level and EQ settings can affect battery life. See Marshall’s product page and SoundGuys’ test for the distinct rated and measured figures.
Marshall says a 15-minute charge provides 15 hours of playtime and a full recharge takes three hours. It also lists wireless charging. SoundGuys found pad placement on a wireless charger unreliable in its test, so wired USB-C charging may be the more predictable option when you need a dependable recharge.

Sound, controls, and device flexibility
Sound and app EQ
SoundGuys characterized the default sound as treble-heavy and recommended adjusting the EQ for its preferred sound. Marshall’s optional app provides EQ customization and lets you configure the M-button. The app also offers updates and battery-preservation settings, including a 90% charge limit and regulation of charging temperature and speed. You can use the headphones without the app for basic listening.
Connecting more than one device
Marshall lists Bluetooth 5.3 and multipoint. The manual says Major V can connect to two devices at once and remember up to 10 previously paired devices. For desk use, that can make it easier to move between two connected devices without relying on a single Bluetooth connection.

Wired listening and what comes in the box
Major V supports a 3.5 mm connection, and Marshall lists an audio cord and USB-C cable among the box contents. Wired listening is a useful fallback when you prefer a cable or do not want to use Bluetooth. Marshall lists SBC, AAC, and LC3 Bluetooth codecs, a microphone and remote, and a stated wireless range of 10 m (30 ft).

What to check before choosing them
Compare Major V with alternatives against the conditions you care about rather than choosing on battery life alone:

Verdict
Major V makes the most sense for casual listening, desk use, and quieter commutes when a compact on-ear fit, long battery life, multipoint, and a wired option are appealing. Skip it for a noisy commute if ANC is a must, and try the fit first if you expect to wear it for hours.
