Usually, no refund is available for a standalone Disney theme-park ticket. Walt Disney World’s terms make an exception when Disney cancels the ticket, while Disneyland’s park rules describe tickets as nonrefundable. Transfer rights differ by resort: Walt Disney World says an entirely unused ticket can be reassigned, but a partially used ticket cannot be passed to another person. Disneyland’s rules require the same person to use the ticket on every valid day.
Those rules apply to admission tickets, not automatically to vacation packages or park reservations. The exact ticket conditions, seller, promotion and package year control, so check them before selling, transferring or assuming money will be returned.

The short answer
For both resorts, plan on a standalone admission ticket being nonrefundable. Walt Disney World’s Ticket Store Terms & Conditions say, “Tickets are nonrefundable unless cancelled by Disney.” If Disney cancels because of the holder’s misconduct, the terms say no refund is due. Disneyland’s Park Rules and Regulations say tickets and other entitlements are nonrefundable, nonexchangeable and nontransferable.
Walt Disney World has a specific unused-ticket exception in its transfer FAQ: if nobody has used the ticket, it can be reassigned to someone else. Once a person uses it, any remaining admissions stay with that person. Disneyland’s published rules take a stricter same-person approach for the ticket’s entire validity period.

A park reservation is a separate entitlement. Where reservations are required, the reservation generally cannot be transferred or sold, and changing the name on an admission ticket does not automatically move the reservation.

Refunds for standalone tickets
Walt Disney World’s ticket-store terms describe tickets as nonrefundable unless Disney cancels them. That is a policy exception, not a general right to cancel because your plans changed, you are sick, your flight was disrupted or you bought the wrong date. If Disney cancels a ticket for holder misconduct, the terms specifically say a refund is not owed.
Ticket listings can also display broad language that tickets and options are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Read that language together with the ticket-transfer FAQ and the conditions attached to the particular ticket. A special event ticket, promotional ticket, date-based product or ticket bought through another seller may have additional restrictions.

Transferring an unused ticket
Disney’s transfer FAQ says: “If you have not used your ticket yet, you can reassign it to someone else.” In practical terms, a completely unused ticket may be assigned to another guest through the applicable Disney account or ticket-management process. The new user must still satisfy every condition attached to the ticket, including valid dates, admission type and any required reservation.

Do not interpret “unused” as “has unused days left.” The exception concerns a ticket that has not been used at all. A ticket scanned for admission by one person is treated differently.
What happens after the first use
After a guest uses a Walt Disney World ticket, the remaining admissions cannot be transferred to another person under the FAQ. The original user keeps the remaining entitlement, subject to the ticket’s expiration and other terms. Giving the card, confirmation number or mobile ticket to someone else does not create a lawful transfer.
This matters for multi-day tickets. If one family member enters on day one and then cannot travel on day two, another family member generally cannot take over the unused day. Contact Disney before attempting an unusual correction; do not assume a name change or a new device will alter the usage record.

Park reservations are separate
When a Walt Disney World ticket requires a park reservation, the reservation is not automatically transferred with the admission ticket. Disney’s reservation terms state that a reservation is nontransferable and void if transferred or sold. The person receiving an eligible unused ticket therefore needs a reservation that matches the ticket, date and park when the system requires one.

Standalone ticket rules
Disneyland’s Park Rules and Regulations state that “Tickets, credentials and other entitlements are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, non-refundable, revocable and void if altered.” The same rules require the ticket to be used by the same person on all days of its validity. That language does not provide the Walt Disney World unused-ticket reassignment exception.
Accordingly, do not buy or sell a partially used Disneyland ticket, and do not assume an entirely unused ticket can be handed to another guest simply because no scan has occurred. A ticket can also be void if it has been altered, so editing a name or document is not a safe workaround.
Vacation packages and the 2027 terms
Package bookings have cancellation rules separate from the admission ticket rules. Disneyland’s cited 2027 package terms cover arrivals from January 1 through December 31, 2027. They state that ticket entitlements are nontransferable and that no refund or credit is given for unused portions of those tickets.

Those terms do not mean every package cancellation is treated exactly like a standalone-ticket cancellation. A package may have time-based cancellation deadlines, deposits or deductions that apply to the hotel, transportation and other components. The 2027 conditions should not be assumed to govern a different package year; use the terms attached to your booking.

Reservations at Disneyland
When Disneyland requires a reservation, you need both valid admission and a reservation for the same park and date. Disneyland’s reservation terms say reservations are void if transferred or sold and have no cash value. Cancelling or modifying a reservation also does not turn an admission ticket into a refundable product.

How to check your specific ticket
- Identify the resort. Confirm whether the product is for Walt Disney World in Florida or Disneyland in California. Their transfer rules are not interchangeable.
- Identify the product. Look for “ticket,” “package,” “special event,” “promotion” or another product label. A hotel-and-ticket package is governed by booking terms in addition to admission rules.
- Check usage. For Walt Disney World, determine whether the ticket has ever been scanned for admission. The unused-ticket transfer FAQ does not apply once a person has entered.
- Read the attached conditions. Review the confirmation email, account details and seller’s terms for expiration, eligible dates, blackout dates, reservation requirements and cancellation deadlines.
- Separate admission from reservations. Verify whether a park reservation is required. A transferred Walt Disney World ticket does not automatically transfer its reservation, and a Disneyland reservation cannot be sold or transferred.
- Ask the right party before acting. Contact Disney for a Disney-issued ticket or the original authorized seller for a package or third-party booking. Ask whether the exact ticket can be reassigned, whether a correction is possible and what happens to linked reservations.
Common situations and the safest response
Your trip was cancelled before anyone used the ticket
At Walt Disney World, ask about reassignment under the unused-ticket FAQ rather than promising a cash refund. Confirm that the recipient can use the ticket within its dates and can obtain any required reservation. At Disneyland, do not advertise the ticket as transferable; request guidance tied to the exact product and seller.
One day of a multi-day ticket was used
At Walt Disney World, the remaining days stay with the person who first used the ticket. A family member or buyer cannot lawfully take over the balance. Disneyland’s same-person rule likewise means the ticket is not a shareable pool of days.
You bought a package and no longer want the admission
Do not cancel only the ticket and assume the package price will be recalculated. Read the package’s cancellation schedule, because hotel and other components may have deadlines or deductions. For Disneyland’s 2027 terms, unused ticket portions do not receive a refund or credit even though the package has its own cancellation provisions.
Disney changed or cancelled operations
Look for a resort notice or the terms for your specific ticket. Walt Disney World’s terms expressly address Disney cancellation, but the remedy can depend on the reason for cancellation. Keep the confirmation and any notice when asking for a refund or other remedy.
You found a ticket offered by another person
At Disneyland, a seller cannot create a valid transfer by handing over a barcode. At Walt Disney World, an unused ticket may be reassigned under Disney’s process, but a privately supplied screenshot does not prove that the ticket is valid, unused or eligible. Verify the ticket with Disney or the original seller before paying.
Why tickets and reservations are treated differently
An admission ticket is the entitlement that permits entry under stated conditions. A park reservation allocates a date and park when the resort uses that system. They may be linked in an account, but they remain separate products with separate restrictions. That is why transferring an eligible unused Walt Disney World ticket does not automatically move a reservation, and why a reservation has no cash value even when the admission ticket remains valid.

- Order or confirmation number and the email address used for purchase.
- Resort, ticket type, number of days and intended dates.
- Whether any ticket was scanned for entry, and on which date.
- Whether the purchase is standalone or part of a hotel or vacation package.
- Any linked park-reservation dates and parks.
- The exact cancellation, transfer or package terms shown in your confirmation.
Ask for a written answer when the situation involves a partial use, a package cancellation, a third-party seller or a reservation mismatch. Keep the response with your booking records; oral advice from an unrelated seller may not override the ticket’s terms.
Bottom line for buyers and ticket holders
Assume no refund for a standalone ticket at either resort unless the applicable terms provide an exception. Walt Disney World allows reassignment of a completely unused ticket according to its FAQ, but not the remaining days of a used ticket. Disneyland requires the same person to use the ticket throughout its validity. Packages and park reservations follow additional rules, so verify the exact product, usage status and current conditions before transferring anything or counting on money back.
