Whether you can get a crypto card depends on your country of residence and the issuer’s current eligibility rules. Using an issued card abroad is a separate question: it may work at merchants that accept its Visa or Mastercard network, but issuer limits, local rules, sanctions, fraud checks, merchant policies and travel fees can still affect a transaction. Share your country and the specific card to determine eligibility; there is no single global availability list.
How to check whether a card is available where you live
Check the card’s own eligibility page or application flow—not just whether the provider’s app or exchange operates in your country. Issuers commonly base eligibility on residence, account status, identity verification and local requirements. Availability can change, so confirm the current terms before applying.

- Choose a specific card. Card availability is product- and issuer-specific.
- Check eligible residence countries and exclusions. Confirm that your country of residence qualifies; do not infer eligibility from the card network’s global reach.
- Review onboarding and verification requirements. The issuer may require a valid account and identity verification, and may check eligibility during the application.
- Read the cardholder terms for your region. Confirm permitted destinations, transaction types, fees and restrictions before applying or travelling.
Examples—not a complete country directory
- Coinbase Card, UK/EU page: Coinbase’s reviewed page lists Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK as eligible resident regions. It requires a valid Coinbase account and identity verification, and also lists countries where its UK/EU card cannot be used. This is specific to that product page, not a statement about all Coinbase services or markets. Check Coinbase’s UK/EU Card information.
- Binance Card – Global Program: Binance says verified users in selected jurisdictions may request Immersve’s international card, with eligibility indicated during onboarding. The page identifies Immersve Limited as the issuer partner and Mastercard as the network, but does not provide a complete country list in the passage reviewed. Check your account and the current program terms. See Binance’s Australia-localized overview.
- Crypto.com Prepaid Card: Crypto.com says its card can be used where the applicable Visa or Mastercard is accepted, subject to restrictions. Fees and limits depend on jurisdiction and card tier, with separate regional fee information. Review Crypto.com card guidance.
What happens when you pay with a crypto card
A crypto card normally makes a payment through a conventional card network. The program converts the relevant crypto balance to fiat as part of funding or payment; the merchant generally receives payment in local fiat rather than receiving cryptocurrency directly. As Visa explains, “Crypto-linked cards don’t mean consumers are sending a digital currency directly to the merchant when you tap your card or use your Visa credential.” Conversion timing and mechanics vary by program, and fees are set by the issuer or platform. Read Visa’s crypto-card explainer.

Before relying on a card overseas, check which asset or balance funds purchases, how the conversion rate is determined, the card’s billing currency, and whether crypto conversion or foreign-exchange charges apply. Also review how refunds and declined transactions are handled in the cardholder terms.

Will the card work at your travel destination?
A Visa or Mastercard logo is a useful indication of potential acceptance, not a promise that every transaction will go through. Visa says its cards are generally usable where Visa is accepted, subject to exceptions including sanctions, local rules, country-limited issuance and temporary fraud-related declines. The issuer, merchant, ATM operator or local rules may also restrict a transaction. Crypto.com, for example, notes that some hotels and car-rental companies may require a credit-card transaction, and its usage rules restrict certain activity such as gambling, cash advances and card-funded crypto purchases or app Cash Account top-ups. Review Crypto.com usage, fees and limits; see Visa’s consumer rules.
Check destination and transaction restrictions
Visa’s rules page says Visa and its affiliates must comply with U.S. sanctions administered by OFAC, citing Iran, North Korea and Syria as examples of countrywide prohibitions. Issuers may also have to follow sanctions in their own jurisdictions. Check the specific issuer’s current restricted-country terms; network acceptance does not override them.

Choose the currency at the terminal carefully
If a merchant or ATM offers to convert a transaction into your card’s billing currency, Visa says you must be given the option to pay in local currency. Compare the displayed conversion terms and choose deliberately. Paying in local currency does not necessarily avoid the issuer’s own exchange or conversion charges. Visa’s consumer rules explain the currency-choice requirement.
Which travel fees to check
There is no universal crypto-card travel fee. Check the issuer’s terms for your card, jurisdiction and tier, and account for more than the headline foreign-exchange charge:

Why prepaid cards can be inconvenient for hotels, rentals and fuel
Some merchants authorize more than the final bill, temporarily reducing the balance available on a prepaid card. Crypto.com gives these examples: hotel or rental excess holds may take up to 60 days after the stay or rental to return to available balance; gas-pump holds may be around $50–150; and some restaurant or service transactions may include an extra hold for gratuity. These are Crypto.com’s stated examples, not guarantees for every issuer or merchant. See Crypto.com’s card usage guidance.
