Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo II are not one compatibility category in 2026. Some have full remasters, some retain separate legacy clients, and their offline authentication, multiplayer services, saves and hardware requirements differ. A classic game can still deliver an excellent campaign or strategy system, but buying the wrong release can leave you with missing expansions, incompatible saves or a multiplayer mode you did not expect.
This guide separates the current editions so you can answer the practical questions first: will it run on your PC, can you play without a connection, can you still play with friends, and which release includes the original game or expansion?

What counts as a “classic Blizzard” game today?
For compatibility purposes, treat each release as a separate product rather than assuming that an old title and its remaster behave alike. Blizzard’s current catalog lists the major products as active games, but their clients and services are different.
Recommended Free Tools
- Warcraft I and Warcraft II: remastered releases exist, while older rereleases remain a separate edition choice.
- Warcraft III: Reforged and its legacy-client behavior must be distinguished, especially after changes reported in 2026.
- StarCraft: StarCraft: Remastered is separate from StarCraft II, which has its own requirements and connection rules.
- Diablo II: Diablo II: Resurrected is a modern PC-and-console release with separate offline and online characters.
The result is a qualified yes: these games remain worthwhile for their campaigns, systems and communities, but your operating system, preferred multiplayer mode and tolerance for online checks determine whether a particular edition is a good fit.

Will it run on my PC?
Check the product page for the exact edition before downloading. Blizzard changes requirements and storefront availability, and a requirement for one game cannot be applied to another.
Warcraft I and Warcraft II
Blizzard announced Warcraft I: Remastered and Warcraft II: Remastered for modern PCs. The announcement describes modernized controls for Warcraft I. Warcraft II: Remastered retains multiplayer functionality and legacy custom maps. The announcement does not provide a single hardware table that can be used as a universal minimum, so use the current store listing for your operating system rather than assuming that any machine capable of running the original will meet the remaster’s requirements.
Older releases are different products. Blizzard describes Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition as GOG rereleases that preserve the original forms; Warcraft II’s enhanced version adds compatibility and quality-of-life improvements. Their client and network behavior is not interchangeable with the remastered releases.
Warcraft III
Warcraft III: Reforged is the current modern release in Blizzard’s catalog. It should not be treated as a drop-in replacement for every behavior of the original Warcraft III client. In particular, a September 2026 report said the Reforged client’s 3.0 update required internet access and removed LAN play, while the legacy client included with a purchase retained offline and LAN play. Because that is a recent, consequential change reported by a secondary source, confirm Blizzard’s latest patch notes and support instructions before relying on LAN or offline behavior.
StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft II
StarCraft: Remastered has its own product requirements. Its official product description covers the original StarCraft and Brood War, refreshed units, buildings, environments and audio, expanded resolution support and online multiplayer. StarCraft II is a separate game with separate system requirements and connection rules; do not use StarCraft: Remastered’s requirements as a proxy for it.

Diablo II: Resurrected
For Windows, Blizzard lists these minimum requirements for Diablo II: Resurrected:
| Component | Publisher-listed minimum |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 10 |
| Processor | Intel Core i3-3250 or AMD FX-4350 |
| Graphics | Nvidia GTX 660 or AMD Radeon HD 7850 |
| Memory | 8 GB RAM |
| Storage | 30 GB |
| Connection | Broadband internet |
These are Blizzard’s listed requirements at the time covered by its support page, not a guarantee for every configuration; Blizzard warns that requirements may change. A PC that meets the minimum may need reduced visual settings for a smooth experience. Console editions are available for Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, so PC compatibility is not the only route.
Can I play offline?
Offline access is title- and client-specific. “Offline” does not necessarily mean that the first download, an update or every launch works without any authentication.
StarCraft and StarCraft II
Blizzard’s offline-support guidance lists StarCraft: Remastered and StarCraft II as supporting offline play after the necessary installation and account steps. You should still expect downloads, updates and occasional login requirements. Online matchmaking, social features and other network services obviously remain unavailable without a connection.
Diablo II: Resurrected
Diablo II: Resurrected supports offline single-player, but Blizzard’s launch guide notes occasional online authentication and update requirements. Offline and online characters are separate: a locally saved offline character cannot simply become an online character, and progress made online does not appear in the offline save.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
The guide also says that local offline saves from the original PC game can be copied manually. That is a file-transfer option, not account synchronization, and it does not merge offline progress with modern online characters.
Warcraft III
Blizzard lists Warcraft III: Reforged in its offline-support material, but the client distinction matters. The September 2026 report described above said the Reforged 3.0 client required internet access, while the included legacy client retained offline and LAN play. Treat that as a point to verify against current Blizzard documentation before installing specifically for offline or local-network use.
Warcraft I and II
Offline behavior depends on the exact remastered or older release and its current launcher requirements. Do not infer it from the original 1990s versions. Read the edition’s current product and support information before assuming that an installed copy will launch without an account check.
Can I still play with friends?
Yes, but the available multiplayer technology differs sharply between editions.
Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition versus the enhanced GOG edition
Blizzard explicitly says these versions are not interchangeable online. The original Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition connects to classic Battle.net. The enhanced GOG edition uses LAN and peer-to-peer multiplayer and cannot connect to classic Battle.net. If your friends own different versions, buying the same title name is not enough; you need the same network-compatible edition.

Warcraft II: Remastered
Blizzard’s remaster announcement says Warcraft II: Remastered retains multiplayer functionality and legacy custom maps. Confirm the current service and map support in the live product listing, especially if you are moving from an older Battle.net release.
Warcraft III
Reforged’s modern online services and the legacy client’s LAN capability should be considered separate use cases. If your priority is a local network game, verify which client is installed and whether the current patch still exposes LAN. If your friends use matchmaking or online services, they need a compatible current client and account setup.
StarCraft: Remastered
The remaster includes online multiplayer alongside the original game and Brood War content. Its refreshed presentation does not remove the classic campaign or multiplayer identity, making it the simplest choice for playing the first StarCraft with friends through a current service.
Diablo II: Resurrected
Online characters enable the modern online features, while offline characters remain local. On consoles, Blizzard’s launch guide says multiplayer requires the platform’s paid online service, such as Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus; service names and policies can change, so check the current console requirements before purchasing.
Which edition should I buy?

Blizzard announced Warcraft I: Remastered, Warcraft II: Remastered and Warcraft III: Reforged for PC Game Pass. Catalog inclusion, regional availability and subscription eligibility can change, so check the current Game Pass listing instead of assuming that an announcement guarantees access where you live.
Does the remaster include the original game and expansion?
StarCraft: Remastered
Yes. Blizzard’s product page says it includes the original StarCraft and the Brood War expansion, with remastered units, buildings, environments and audio, plus expanded resolution support and online multiplayer.
Diablo II: Resurrected
Do not assume that every original save or account state carries over. Blizzard distinguishes local offline saves from online characters. The launch guide allows manual copying of local offline saves from the original PC game, but those saves remain offline and separate from newly created online characters.

The remaster announcement covers the remastered games’ content and features, including Warcraft II’s legacy custom maps. Older GOG rereleases are separate packages containing the original forms and, for Warcraft II, an enhanced version. Compare the exact store description if you need a particular campaign, map set or multiplayer mode.
Warcraft III
Reforged and its legacy client are edition and client questions rather than a simple “original included” checkbox. Confirm which client your purchase installs and which features Blizzard currently assigns to each one.
How to check compatibility before you spend money
- Write down the exact title and edition. “Warcraft II,” “Warcraft II: Battle.net Edition,” “Warcraft II: Remastered” and the enhanced GOG release do not describe the same network environment.
- Check the official product page for your platform. Verify Windows version, processor, graphics card, RAM and storage where listed. For Diablo II: Resurrected, compare your PC with the 30 GB and 8 GB minimums as well as the CPU and GPU requirements.
- Decide whether offline means no multiplayer or no login. Some games support offline campaigns but still need a download, update or occasional authentication.
- Match your friends’ edition and client. This is essential for Warcraft II, where classic Battle.net and enhanced LAN/peer-to-peer versions cannot connect to one another.
- Separate save types. In Diablo II: Resurrected, choose offline characters for local saves and online characters for network features; they are not interchangeable.
- Recheck time-sensitive policies. Before buying for LAN, console multiplayer or a subscription catalog, read the current Blizzard and platform support pages because patches and service requirements can change.
Are these games still worth playing?
They are worth playing when you value the underlying design rather than expecting every modern convenience. StarCraft: Remastered is a particularly clear recommendation for the original campaign, Brood War and online multiplayer in one package. Diablo II: Resurrected is compelling if you accept separate offline and online progression and meet its modern hardware requirements. Warcraft I and II are attractive when you choose between remastered presentation and the distinct networking behavior of older releases. Warcraft III remains appealing for its campaign and strategy systems, but its current client split makes it the least straightforward choice for players who specifically need offline or LAN access.
The practical rule is simple: buy the edition that matches your platform, your friends’ client and your desired connection mode. The games themselves have aged unevenly; the edition details are what determine whether the experience feels effortless or frustrating.
