Short answer: US spot Bitcoin ETF momentum weakened sharply in October 2026, but the data do not prove that Bitcoin demand has structurally ended. The funds recorded a combined $532.3 million net outflow from October 1 through October 15, after taking in $2.65 billion during September. The picture is also uneven: BlackRock’s IBIT still attracted money in October while Fidelity’s FBTC and ARK 21Shares’ ARKB posted substantial redemptions.
What the latest Bitcoin ETF numbers show
BTC Pulse’s table for the 11 US trading sessions from October 1 through October 15, 2026, shows six days of net inflows and five days of net outflows, but the losing sessions were much larger. The period ended at -$532.3 million across US spot Bitcoin ETFs.

| Period or session | Net flow | What it indicates |
|---|---|---|
| October 1–15, 2026 | -$532.3 million | Net redemptions across US spot Bitcoin ETFs over 11 trading days |
| October 7, 2026 | -$484.9 million | Largest single-session outflow in the period |
| October 8, 2026 | -$244.1 million | Second consecutive major outflow |
| October 14, 2026 | -$261.4 million | Another sharp redemption session |
| October 12–16, 2026 | About -$228.4 million | Weekly result reported by SatoshiNakamoto.TV using Farside rows |
| October 16, 2026 | -$82.4 million | Friday session included in the October 12–16 total |
The weekly estimate is based on a later cutoff than the October 1–15 figure, so the totals should not be added together. Daily rows can also change after issuers submit late reports. The same SatoshiNakamoto.TV update puts cumulative net inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs at approximately $56.9 billion since launch.

The October weakness looks more like a reversal from a strong base than definitive proof that demand has disappeared. The Block reported $2.65 billion of net inflows in September 2026. September was down from August’s $3.52 billion, but it was still the second-largest monthly inflow since October 2025.

- BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
- SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
- NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
- 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
- BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.
That sequence matters when reading the headline October loss. A fund complex can post a large monthly outflow after an unusually strong month without establishing a permanent change in investor behavior. Dominick John, an analyst at Zeus Research, offered the constructive September interpretation on October 2: “With the Q4 bottom seemingly established, continued ETF inflows also signal improving market sentiment and a potentially more bullish setup heading into the final quarter.” October’s subsequent redemptions show why that view should be treated as a point-in-time reading rather than a forecast.
Which Bitcoin ETFs are still attracting money?
October’s dispersion is as important as the aggregate number. BTC Pulse reports that IBIT gained $261.3 million through October 15, while Morgan Stanley’s MSBT gained $23.9 million. At the other end, FBTC lost $461.3 million and ARKB lost $214.9 million.

| ETF | October 1–15 flow | Reading |
|---|---|---|
| IBIT | +$261.3 million | Positive creations despite the sector-wide net outflow |
| MSBT | +$23.9 million | Modest positive flow |
| FBTC | -$461.3 million | Largest reported redemption total in the table |
| ARKB | -$214.9 million | Substantial redemptions |
A positive flow for one fund does not cancel the industry result, and a negative flow does not mean every shareholder sold. It means that, for that fund on that reporting date, the dollar value of newly created shares was lower than the value of redeemed shares.

How spot Bitcoin ETF inflows and outflows work
What an inflow means
A net inflow is the value of new ETF shares created minus the value of shares redeemed during a session. When creations exceed redemptions, the fund reports a positive flow. The process generally involves authorized participants exchanging cash for shares, with the fund maintaining direct bitcoin exposure.

What an outflow changes
A net outflow means redemptions exceeded creations. That reduces the ETF’s shares outstanding and normally reduces its assets, with bitcoin sold or transferred as part of the redemption process. An investor who keeps their shares still has exposure to Bitcoin’s price, less the fund’s fees; an industry outflow is not an automatic instruction for every holder to sell.
Why the product is different from holding coins directly
A spot Bitcoin ETF owns bitcoin directly and trades through an ordinary brokerage account. Investors receive market exposure without managing wallet keys or sending transactions themselves. The products remain highly volatile. The SEC treats them as exchange-traded commodity trusts, so their investor protections and structure differ from those of classic mutual funds governed by the Investment Company Act of 1940.

Did Federal Reserve and inflation news cause the selling?
The largest October moves came around important macro-information windows. BTC Pulse notes that the October 7 outflow followed publication of the Federal Reserve’s September meeting minutes, while the October 14 outflow came on the day of a hotter-than-expected September consumer-price-index release.
The dates show a coincidence, not proof of causation. Flow data alone cannot establish whether the Fed minutes, the CPI result, Bitcoin’s price action, portfolio rebalancing, or another factor caused investors to redeem shares. A responsible reading is that ETF demand was sensitive to a period of significant macro information, not that one release mechanically produced a specified dollar outflow.

ETF fees and why fund choice can affect flows
The following fee rates were listed in the Farside table reproduced by SatoshiNakamoto.TV and checked on October 13, 2026. They help explain why flows can move between funds even when investors retain a broadly similar Bitcoin exposure.
| ETF | Listed fee |
|---|---|
| MSBT | 0.14% |
| BTC | 0.15% |
| EZBC | 0.19% |
| BITB | 0.20% |
| HODL | 0.20% |
| ARKB | 0.21% |
| IBIT | 0.25% |
| FBTC | 0.25% |
| BTCO | 0.25% |
| BRRR | 0.25% |
| BTCW | 0.25% |
| GBTC | 1.50% |
Fees are only one decision factor. Trading spreads, liquidity, tax treatment, custody arrangements, brokerage availability and an investor’s existing account can all influence which fund receives creations or redemptions. The table is a snapshot as of October 13, not a promise that rates will remain unchanged.
How to interpret daily flow headlines
- Check the asset class. Keep US spot Bitcoin ETF figures separate from Ether ETFs and products tracking other assets.
- Check the cutoff. A number for October 1–15 cannot be compared directly with a number for October 12–16 without accounting for the different sessions.
- Look at the total and the distribution. Industry outflows can hide inflows into a particular fund, as IBIT’s October gain demonstrates.
- Separate flow from price. Flows measure creations and redemptions, not a guaranteed next-day Bitcoin move.
- Allow for revisions. Late issuer reporting can change daily rows, so treat very recent totals as provisional.
- Use macro dates as context, not proof. A redemption spike on a Fed or CPI date may indicate sensitivity, but it does not establish a single cause.
So, are Bitcoin ETFs running out of steam?
They are losing short-term momentum, not demonstrating a confirmed permanent collapse in demand. The evidence is clear on the near-term direction: October’s first 15 trading sessions were negative, the week of October 12–16 was also negative, and several individual sessions were unusually large. But September’s $2.65 billion inflow, approximately $56.9 billion in cumulative net inflows since launch, and continued buying of IBIT show that demand has not vanished across the entire US spot Bitcoin ETF market.

The most accurate conclusion is therefore conditional: October 2026 marks a meaningful slowdown and reversal from September, while a structural end to institutional or brokerage-channel demand would require a longer run of data across months and funds.
