It is a poor fit if you need active noise cancellation, strong isolation, or pressure-free comfort for long sessions. The decisive question is whether the on-ear fit works for you—and whether the price makes sense when you buy.
Who should buy Beats Solo 4?
Solo 4 makes the most sense for listeners who prefer a compact on-ear design, want physical buttons and a wired fallback, and do not need noise cancellation. It supports iOS and Android, weighs 217 g according to Beats’ 2024 specifications, and includes USB-C and 3.5 mm cables.

Look elsewhere if you commute through noisy environments, work in a loud office, or find pressure on the ears uncomfortable. The lack of ANC and weak practical isolation are more consequential in those situations than the advertised battery life.
How comfortable are they?
Solo 4 rests on the ears rather than surrounding them. Beats describes its cushions as designed for lasting comfort, but that design claim cannot predict how a particular head shape or ear will respond to the fit.
#1 Best Overall
- Custom acoustic architecture and updated drivers for powerful Beats sound.
- Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking.
- Ultralight ergonomic design for all-day comfort. Flex-grip headband and ergonomically angled, adjustable ear cups for a stable fit.
- UltraPlush ear cushions are designed for comfort and durability.
- Up to 50 hours of battery life.
In its 2024 review, WIRED’s reviewer said the clamp became uncomfortable over time, while also managing to wear the headphones for multiple hours. That is a useful indication of fit variability, not a guarantee that they will or will not suit you. If possible, try them on before buying, especially if you plan to wear headphones for long stretches.
How do Solo 4 sound?
Reviewers do not describe the sound identically. RTINGS’ review, updated June 23, 2026, characterizes the reproduction as accurate and slightly bright. SoundGuys’ 2024 review finds that bass can sound too quiet in some material and notes that outside noise affects listening. These are reviewer assessments, not a prediction of every listener’s experience.

If you specifically want a strong bass emphasis, audition the headphones with music you know before deciding. The on-ear fit and limited isolation can also make the perceived balance less satisfying in noisy surroundings.

Do they block noise, and are they suitable for commuting?
No: Solo 4 has no active noise cancellation. Beats describes passive noise isolation, but RTINGS and SoundGuys report weak practical isolation. Passive isolation comes from the physical fit; it is not the same as electronic cancellation, and these headphones should not be treated as a reliable way to quiet a noisy commute or office.

If blocking noise is a priority, compare headphones that offer ANC and assess their measured isolation and fit. If you are comparing options, consider on-ear versus over-ear comfort, isolation, sound signature, battery claims, wired connections, device compatibility, and the price available when you purchase.
How long does the battery last?
Beats claims up to 50 hours of listening time per charge and up to five hours of playback from a 10-minute Fast Fuel charge. These are manufacturer figures, not guaranteed everyday results. Beats says its battery testing used preproduction Solo 4 headphones paired with iPhone 15 Pro units in March 2024.

Beats support describes the headphones as having “up to 50 hours of battery life” and says wired 3.5 mm listening does not require battery power. Treat the runtime as a best-case claim rather than a promise of the same result in every use pattern.

What wired connections and conveniences are included?
The official product page lists both a USB-C cable and a 3.5 mm audio cable in the box. The 3.5 mm option provides wired listening without battery power, which is useful when the battery is depleted or you prefer a cable. WIRED also notes a convenience omission: Solo 4 does not automatically pause playback when removed.

What do they cost?
Beats’ official US product page listed Solo 4 at $199.99 when accessed on October 9, 2026. That is the official listed price, not a confirmed retailer street price; retailer price and availability can change. Judge the value against your actual offer and your priorities, particularly ANC, long-session comfort, and sound preference.
Quick Recap
Final buying check
- Consider them if you like on-ear headphones, are comfortable with their clamp, value a compact design and wired listening, and do not need ANC.
- Try before buying or skip them if ear pressure is a concern, you wear headphones for long uninterrupted sessions, or you need strong noise reduction.
- Audition first if a particular bass level or tonal balance is essential; reviewer impressions differ, and personal preference matters.
