Arc System Works will open ARC SYSTEM WORKS TOKYO STUDIO “TAKUMI” in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on November 2, 2026. The new studio will expand the company’s development capacity, beginning with an unnamed fighting game selected for Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) IP360 subsidy project.
What Arc System Works has announced
The announcement, dated October 15, 2026, establishes Takumi as a new Arc System Works development base rather than a rebranding of an existing office. The company describes the studio as a strategic cornerstone for delivering what it calls “ultimate excitement” to players worldwide and for moving beyond conventional game-development frameworks.

Takumi is also intended to operate as an outward-facing collaboration hub. That wording indicates a role broader than producing games internally: Arc System Works says the studio will connect with outside partners and support the company’s global reach. The announcement does not specify which external studios, publishers, technology companies or creative partners will be involved.

What game is Takumi making?
The first project identified for the studio is a new fighting game chosen for the IP360 project. Neither Arc System Works nor the announcement names the game, its intellectual property, platforms, release window, gameplay systems or staff.
That means the project cannot yet be identified as a new entry in any particular existing series. Arc System Works is associated with established fighting-game properties, but the Takumi announcement does not connect this project to any of them. Treating the unnamed game as a sequel, reboot or licensed title would go beyond the information released.

What is METI’s IP360 program?
IP360 is a Japanese government initiative administered through the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. Gematsu reported that the policy aims to help Japanese content businesses reach 20 trillion yen in overseas sales by 2033. Selection for an IP360-supported project signals that the fighting game is part of a program focused on expanding the international business potential of Japanese intellectual property; it does not disclose the game’s budget, publisher, launch markets or commercial performance.

Why Arc System Works is creating Takumi
Additional development capacity
Arc System Works says the immediate purpose is to strengthen its overall development capabilities. A separate Tokyo studio gives the company another base for recruiting, organizing and scaling teams, although no staffing target or budget has been published.
A global collaboration function
The company’s description of Takumi as an “outward-facing collaboration hub with a widespread global reach” suggests that partnership-building and international coordination are part of the studio’s remit. The announcement does not define a formal partner program or explain how responsibilities will be divided between Takumi and Arc System Works’ other offices.

- No More Complicated Commands! Simple Inputs Allow for a Variety of Attacks! - While there is only one button assigned for close ranged attacks, combining the button with a directional input (up, down, left, or right), or pressing it during jumps or dashes will allow you to perform a wide variety of attacks that vary in range and direction
- A Game of Reads that Fighting Games Fans Would Love! - In addition to the basic rock paper scissor elements that fighting games employ (in Kill la Kill: IF’s case – consisting of Attack, Guard, and Break Attack), the game also incorporates two additional elements: Evasion and Evasion Catch Attack. Players can expect to experience a simple yet engaging gameplay loop that encourages deep and intricate interactions in the midst of combat
- The Mechanic That Will Bring Back The Spirit of the Animated Series!! Introducing the “Ketsui Testament.” - The “Ketsui Testament” recreates iconic scenes from the original animated series, where characters engage in a heated exchange of words during battle. By pressing L1+R1 during battle and hitting the opponent with the Ketsui Burst, you enter into the Ketsui Testament. Once activated, each player will choose one from the three rock paper scissors choice of phrases to use as their testament.
A new creator-recruitment push
Arc System Works says it is significantly expanding recruitment for creators who will join Takumi as founding members. Applicants should consult the company’s official careers information for current vacancies, job descriptions, locations and application requirements. The studio announcement does not list specific roles, compensation, team sizes or hiring deadlines.

What has not been announced
- The fighting game’s title and intellectual property
- Playable characters, mechanics, visual style or other gameplay details
- Target platforms, regions or release date
- Project director, producer and other named staff
- Studio headcount, operating budget and production schedule
- Named collaboration partners or a detailed structure for the global hub
These omissions are normal for a studio-opening announcement, but they matter when interpreting the news. The confirmed story is the creation of a Shinjuku facility and its initial assignment—not a full game reveal.

What to watch next
The most consequential follow-up would be Arc System Works identifying the IP360 fighting game and explaining how Takumi will contribute to it. Platform announcements, staff appointments, recruitment listings and a production timetable would clarify whether Takumi is leading development, sharing work with another Arc System Works team, or coordinating a broader partnership. Until those disclosures arrive, the opening date, address, studio mission and unnamed fighting-game project are the firm details available.
