ARC Raiders Solo vs Squad PvE Runs: Which Is Safer for High-Value Loot?

For standard PvPvE runs, a coordinated squad is usually the safer way to extract expensive loot. Teammates can scout, split carrying duties, revive a downed player and protect an extraction. Solo play is quieter and easier to coordinate, and matchmaking generally favors similar squad sizes, but one knockdown ends the recovery chain.

During the temporary PvE Toggle Beta Test (October 13–20, 2026), player damage is disabled, making it the safest option against human Raiders. It is not the best high-value-loot mode: Embark says overall loot value is reduced, several conditions are unavailable and ARC machines remain dangerous.

The practical answer

Your safest choice depends on what “safe” means. If safety means the highest chance that a valuable item reaches the extraction screen, use a coordinated squad in the normal PvPvE queue. If safety means avoiding damage from other players, use the PvE Toggle while the October 13–20, 2026 beta is active. If you want independence and a smaller social or audio footprint, run solo, accepting that a downed solo Raider has no teammate recovery.

These are mechanical trade-offs, not measured win-rate differences. No official source publishes a solo-versus-squad extraction survival rate, average high-value-loot haul or loot multiplier. Treat any precise percentage found elsewhere as an unsupported estimate unless it identifies a reproducible test.

What makes a high-value-loot run risky?

ARC Raiders is an extraction adventure built around two overlapping threats: ARC machines and human Raiders. You search, decide how much to carry, and then survive a route to extraction. Valuable loot has no practical value if you are eliminated before leaving with it.

Human-player risk is only one part of the calculation. A route can be quiet for several minutes and still become dangerous when an ARC fight creates noise, another team reaches the same objective, or an extraction signal reveals your position. Your party size changes how you handle those events, but it does not remove them in the normal queue.

Human danger is probabilistic

Embark’s matchmaking explanation says there are no permanent PvE-only lobbies or servers where other Raiders can never attack. The system favors fairer compositions, including similar squad sizes where possible, and uses a continuous playstyle scale. Similarity is more likely, not guaranteed. A solo run can therefore meet another solo, but it can also encounter a group.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Machine danger remains in every relevant mode

ARC enemies can damage, down and finish players even when human player damage is disabled. The PvE test gives a downed player an eight-second grace period, after which ARC enemies can reacquire that player. A “no PvP” setting is therefore not an immunity or an automatic extraction guarantee.

Standard PvPvE: why a squad usually protects expensive loot

A well-coordinated group adds recovery options that no solo build can reproduce. The advantage is strongest when the objective is to leave with a rare component, a high-tier weapon or a full backpack rather than simply earn experience.

Recovery after a down

When one member is downed, another player can clear the immediate threat, revive them and help them reach cover. A third player can watch an approach or hold the extraction angle. This does not make a revive safe: the team may still be outnumbered, exposed to ARC fire or forced to abandon the body. It does mean one mistake does not automatically end the run.

Scouting and route control

Two or more players can check separate sightlines, listen for movement and identify an extraction route before committing. A scout can investigate a loot room while another player stays near the exit. In a machine fight, the team can pull aggro in different directions instead of allowing every threat to focus one target.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Carrying capacity and supplies

A squad can distribute healing items, ammunition and utility across several inventories. One player can carry a valuable objective item while another retains supplies for the trip home. The team also has more flexibility when a detour is needed: someone can keep watch while another searches a container or relocates a downed teammate.

Extraction security

Extraction is a team task rather than a single exposure window. Members can watch likely approaches, stagger their positions and react if another Raider appears. The group’s larger footprint can also work against it: more movement, more sound and more bodies at the extraction point make the team easier to notice.

The squad’s cost

  • A larger signature: more players can produce more noise and visual activity, increasing the chance that another group notices the fight.
  • Shared mistakes: an early engagement can consume healing, ammunition and time for everyone.
  • Coordination overhead: unclear callouts or players taking separate fights can erase the recovery advantage.
  • More contested objectives: a group may be more willing to challenge a valuable location, but another team may also recognize the same opportunity.

For loot protection, the best squad is not necessarily the largest or most aggressive. A group that stays together, communicates a fallback route and leaves after securing the target generally creates fewer avoidable risks than a group that keeps searching indefinitely.

Standard PvPvE: when solo can be the better fit

Solo play removes coordination problems and gives you complete control over pace, route and extraction timing. A solo player can avoid a noisy fight instead of waiting for a teammate, and can leave immediately after finding the target item.

Matchmaking can reduce, but not eliminate, group exposure

Embark prioritizes equal squad sizes where possible. That gives solo players a better chance of seeing similarly sized opponents than a system that freely mixes every party size. It is a preference, not a shield: matchmaking is probabilistic, and there are no guaranteed solo-only or PvE-only lobbies in standard play.

The irreversible downside

A solo down removes every teammate recovery option. There is no revive, covering fire or second inventory to carry your supplies. A machine ambush, a missed audio cue or a bad extraction angle can turn a successful loot search into a complete loss immediately.

When solo makes sense

  • You value a low coordination burden more than maximum recovery capacity.
  • Your target is nearby and your route can avoid noisy or contested objectives.
  • You are practicing movement, stealth or map knowledge and are willing to lose occasional runs.
  • You can stop searching once the target item is secured instead of adding unnecessary exposure.

Solo is therefore a control and simplicity choice, not a high-value-loot safety setting. It can lower the chance of facing a larger party through matchmaking preferences, but it cannot compensate for having no rescue if you are downed.

The PvE Toggle Beta Test: safest from players, lower-value loot

The PvE Toggle Beta Test runs from October 13 through October 20, 2026. In that test, player-to-player damage is disabled. A human Raider cannot directly kill you, making the toggle the clearest choice when avoiding PvP is more important than maximizing the value of the haul.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What the toggle protects against

The setting removes the immediate threat of another player shooting or meleeing you. It can be useful for learning routes, completing a difficult objective without a firefight, or carrying a specific item through a known extraction path.

What it takes away

Embark explicitly states that overall loot value in PvE servers will be lowered. That means “safer” does not equal “better for high-value loot.” The test also does not prioritize separating squad sizes, so a solo player may still share a session with groups. Player damage is off, but the social and spatial pressure of other Raiders can remain.

Unavailable map conditions

The PvE Toggle excludes Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection. If your target item or route depends on one of those conditions, the toggle cannot serve that plan during the test.

ARC enemies still require a plan

Downed players receive an eight-second grace period before ARC enemies can reacquire them. Use that time to move behind cover, break line of sight or let a teammate clear the machine threat. Do not treat the timer as a guaranteed revive window or assume that a human-free fight is a machine-free fight.

Do not confuse “Solo vs Squads” with a safe-loot mode

The Solo vs Squads option is a challenge and reward setting, not protection. It places experienced solo Raiders at level 40 and above into the squad queue. A successful extract and defeat earns a 20% end-of-round XP bonus under the Headwinds Patch Notes 1.13.0.

That design intentionally trades safety for difficulty and reward. It can be appropriate for a player seeking a challenge or XP, but it is a poor choice for a run whose primary objective is preserving expensive loot. The option increases the chance that your solo character is evaluated against squad-level opposition rather than insulating you from it.

Comparison at a glance

Let the target item and map condition decide

Do not choose a queue in isolation from the map. Conditions can change both encounter frequency and loot opportunity. Headwinds notes that Bird City increases nearby combat and player proximity. Weapon cases have higher chances of higher-tier weapons, while Stella Montis has had loot-spawn redistribution. Those changes can make a location more attractive and more contested at the same time.

For a known, high-value target

First confirm that the target can appear under the active condition and that the route is available in your chosen mode. If the item requires a condition excluded by the PvE Toggle, use standard PvPvE and bring a squad if preserving it is the priority. If the target is available in several places, prefer the route with fewer forced fights and a nearby extraction rather than the location with the largest theoretical loot pool.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For opportunistic looting

A squad can justify a higher-risk area because it has more capacity to scout and recover from a mistake. A solo player should usually set a strict stop point: once the valuable item is found, leave rather than converting a successful run into a longer search through a contested condition.

A safer standard squad run, step by step

  1. Set one objective before deployment. Decide whether the run is for a named item, a weapon case, a condition-specific location or a general haul. A clear objective prevents the team from wandering after the valuable item is secured.
  2. Assign simple roles. Use a forward scout, a player who tracks the extraction route and a player who carries reserve healing or ammunition. Roles can rotate, but every member should know who calls a retreat.
  3. Choose a fallback extraction. Identify a second exit before entering a contested area. If another Raider group appears, leaving immediately is often safer than trying to win a fight for the original route.
  4. Control machine aggro. Avoid starting a large ARC fight beside the loot container or extraction signal. If combat is unavoidable, pull enemies away from the intended exit before searching.
  5. Secure the target and stop expanding the objective. Once the named item is in a protected inventory, reassess. Additional containers are optional; they are not worth treating the run as failed if the main item is already secured.
  6. Stage the extraction. One player watches the most likely approach, one stays close enough to revive, and the carrier avoids taking the most exposed position. Leave if the area becomes noisy or a second group is detected.
  7. Recover deliberately. If someone goes down, clear the immediate ARC and player threats before reviving. If the route cannot be made safe, abandon the fight rather than turning one down into a full-team loss.

A safer standard solo run, step by step

  1. Pick a short route. Favor objectives with a predictable path to extraction. Every extra room adds another chance for machine aggro or an encounter.
  2. Keep an exit in mind while looting. Do not enter a container room without knowing which cover and doorway you will use if another Raider arrives.
  3. Use sound and timing. A machine fight can advertise your location. Wait for nearby combat to move away, or bypass the fight instead of spending resources that you may need at extraction.
  4. Carry only the supplies the route requires. Extra weight is not useful if it slows the run or encourages you to stay for low-value containers. Preserve healing for the final movement to extraction.
  5. Leave immediately after the target is secured. Solo play has no recovery buffer. The safest additional loot is often the loot you do not stop to collect.
  6. Break contact rather than contesting every sightline. If another Raider is present, change direction, wait or extract elsewhere. You do not need to win an encounter to complete a loot run.

Common mistakes and how to correct them

Assuming equal-size matchmaking is guaranteed

It is not. Embark describes similar squad sizes as more likely, not guaranteed. Plan as though a mixed encounter can happen and keep a route that does not require winning a fair fight.

Treating the PvE Toggle as a permanent mode

The October 13–20 test is temporary. Its rules and availability should not be treated as evidence of a permanent PvE queue. Check the current in-game notice before planning around it.

Using the PvE Toggle for maximum-value loot

The toggle lowers overall loot value and removes five named conditions. Select it for reduced human damage, not for the richest possible haul.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Taking “Solo vs Squads” for a protection bonus

The 20% figure is an XP bonus tied to a successful extract and defeat. It is not a loot multiplier and does not reduce squad danger.

Staying after the objective is complete

The most common avoidable risk is extending a successful run for marginal containers. Set the extraction trigger in advance: a named item, a full supply threshold or a specific weapon case. Once that trigger is met, leave.

What the available evidence cannot prove

There is no official solo-versus-squad survival percentage, average high-value-loot value, or general loot multiplier to use in a mathematical comparison. A squad’s practical advantages—revives, scouting, shared supplies and extraction cover—explain why it is the recommended default for expensive loot, but they do not establish a universal success rate.

Individual results will vary with map condition, target location, player skill, communication quality, extraction choice and willingness to disengage. Compare your own runs by recording the queue, condition, target, whether the item reached extraction and why a failed run ended. That can inform your decision without turning a small personal sample into a game-wide statistic.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Decision checklist

  • Choose a standard squad when the item is expensive, the route is contested or recovering from a down matters more than keeping a small profile.
  • Choose standard solo when you want independent pacing, can use a short route and accept that a single down ends the run.
  • Choose the PvE Toggle during October 13–20, 2026 when avoiding player damage is the priority and reduced loot value and unavailable conditions are acceptable.
  • Avoid Solo vs Squads for a safety-focused loot run; it is a level-40-and-above challenge with a 20% XP reward for the specified successful outcome.
  • Check the active condition before deploying. Bird City, weapon-case opportunities and Stella Montis loot redistribution can change both the reward and the encounter risk.
