ARC Raiders PvE Mode: Beginner Tips for Surviving Your First Runs (October 2026 Test)

Short answer: Treat the ARC Raiders PvE toggle as a temporary, lower-loot learning environment—not a risk-free mode. The October 13–20, 2026 test removes player-to-player damage, but ARC machines can still down you, extraction controls still make noise, and moving after the eight-second downed grace period can cause ARC to reacquire you. Start with a low-cost loadout, identify two extraction options before travelling far, carry recovery items, and spend stamina as if another fight is always one turn away.

What the ARC Raiders PvE toggle actually is

Embark’s PvE matchmaking toggle is a limited test running from October 13 at 11:00 CEST through October 20 at 11:00 CEST, 2026. It lets you switch between the normal player-versus-player-versus-environment matchmaking and new PvE servers. Embark describes the feature as a test and asks for feedback; it has not promised that PvE will remain permanently after October 20. Check the current announcement before relying on these rules after the test window: Embark’s PvE Toggle Beta Test announcement.

On a PvE server, players cannot damage one another. Stun and fire throwables therefore do not affect other Raiders, while physical interaction items such as barricades and ziplines still work. The trade-off is lower overall loot value. Squad-size separation is also not prioritized, so groups of different sizes may encounter one another more often, even though they cannot deal player damage.

Test rule What it means for a beginner
Zero player-to-player damage You can learn routes and looting without being shot by another Raider, but you still need to avoid or defeat ARC.
Stun and fire throwables do not affect players Do not waste these items expecting to disable another Raider; barricades and ziplines remain usable.
Lower loot value Use PvE to practice movement, extraction and ARC decisions, not as a guaranteed high-value farming method.
Squad separation is not prioritized Different squad sizes can meet more frequently, so keep track of nearby activity even without friendly fire.
Some map conditions are excluded Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate and Redirection are among the conditions that do not offer the PvE option.
Population-dependent matchmaking Queue times may vary in low-population regions and during quiet hours.

The official wording is direct: “The PvE matchmaking toggle will allow players to switch between the standard PvPvE experience and the new PvE servers.” The statement is attributed to the ARC Raiders Team in the October 12, 2026 announcement. The usual matchmaking continues to apply in PvPvE sessions while Embark gathers data about the toggle.

Choose a loadout you can afford to lose

Your first objective is not maximum loot. It is learning how far you can travel, which ARC encounters you can bypass, and how much time you need to reach an exit. Build around the amount of equipment you are willing to lose on an elimination. Items outside your Safe Pocket are lost when you are eliminated, so an expensive kit can turn a small mistake into a costly reset.

Use the Free Loadout to learn the map

The Free Loadout supplies low-tier equipment, has limited inventory space and includes no Safe Pocket. It is a sensible choice for a first reconnaissance run: you can practise searching containers, identifying ARC patrols and reaching an extraction without putting valuable equipment at risk. Its limitations also teach an important habit—every inventory slot must support your immediate objective or your route home.

Switch to a custom loadout when you have a purpose

A custom loadout can include an augment, a shield, up to two weapons, matching ammunition, quick-use consumables and Safe Pocket slots. Select only what supports the run. If the plan is to learn extraction locations, prioritize survivability and enough ammunition for unavoidable ARC fights. If the plan is resource gathering, leave space for the materials you actually need instead of filling the pack with speculative loot.

Choice Advantages Limitations Best first-use case
Free Loadout Low replacement risk; useful for route and extraction practice. Low-tier gear, limited inventory and no Safe Pocket. Reconnaissance, learning controls and testing a new map area.
Custom loadout Lets you select an augment, shield, up to two weapons, ammunition, quick-use items and Safe Pocket storage. More value can be lost on elimination; poor item selection wastes space. A defined resource, combat or progression objective.

Before deploying, check the map and the available extraction options. Spawns are randomized, map regions have different resource profiles, and exits can include Raider Hatches, Cargo Elevators, Airshafts and other routes. The beginner guide from October 2025 explains the loadout and map-planning basics in more detail: Epic Games Store’s ARC Raiders guide. Because weapon balance and map rules can change, treat its named weapon advice as a starting point rather than a permanent tier list.

Plan a route that always has an exit

Do not choose a distant loot area first and look for an extraction only after your inventory is full. Select a primary exit and a backup before you cross the map. Compare routes by the resources you want, distance to both exits, likely ARC exposure and the noise created while activating the exit.

Mark two extraction choices before travelling far

  1. Identify the nearest ordinary exit. Airshafts, Subway Tunnels and Cargo Elevators are examples. Note the approach path and any cover nearby.
  2. Identify a second exit in a different direction. A backup prevents one patrol, blocked approach or bad fight from forcing you to cross the entire map while overloaded.
  3. Choose a stopping point. Decide how much inventory or progression is enough for the run. A successful early extraction is more valuable for learning than a greedy detour that ends in an elimination.
  4. Leave time for the activation noise. Ordinary extraction controls take time and make a loud sound that can attract ARC and other Raiders. Arrive with stamina and recovery items available rather than reaching the console exhausted.

Understand Raider Hatches

Raider Hatches are described in the beginner guide as hassle-free exits, but they require a key. Keys can come from crafting, randomized loot or Shani. If you have a key, a hatch can provide a quieter contingency than an ordinary exit; if you do not, do not route your whole run around finding one. Treat hatch keys as a planning advantage, not a reason to ignore the exits visible on your map.

Survive ARC encounters instead of fighting everything

Removing player damage does not remove the main mechanical threat. ARC enemies can down you, and the official test rules say they may reacquire a downed Raider. After you are downed, there is an eight-second grace period. Once that period ends, ARC may attack if it catches you moving. Use the grace period to assess whether a revive, crawl or stillness is safest; do not assume that standing up and sprinting immediately is harmless.

Pick fights using armor penetration

The October 2025 beginner guide specifically calls out weapon ARC Armor Penetration. It identifies the Ferro and Hullcracker as stronger choices against machines than the Kettle, Stitcher or Bobcat. That is guidance from the earlier guide, not a guarantee that later balance patches leave the weapons unchanged.

Weapon guidance from the beginner guide How to apply it
Ferro; Hullcracker Prefer these when an ARC fight is unavoidable and your loadout can support them.
Kettle; Stitcher; Bobcat Do not assume they are equally efficient against ARC armor; bypass or reposition when possible.

Use information before ammunition

Ping ARC units to warn teammates and to create a shared picture of the threat. A spotted player may draw other robots to the area, so a ping is not a promise that the encounter will remain isolated. Before firing, ask whether the machine blocks your route, guards required resources or can simply be avoided. PvE is a good place to learn patrol patterns without adding player bullets to the problem, but a loud, unnecessary fight can still consume healing, shield charges and the stamina needed for extraction.

Manage health, shields and revives deliberately

Carry health and shield recovery whenever your loadout allows. Bandages restore health over time, while shield rechargers replenish shield energy. Use them before a predictable crossing or extraction activation rather than waiting until you are one hit from another down.

Revive with the safest available method

A teammate can be revived by holding the interaction button. A Defibrillator revives more quickly, which can matter when ARC is nearby or the squad is exposed. The faster item does not make the location safe: clear or distract the immediate threat, use cover and keep an exit route open before committing to the interaction.

React correctly after a down

  • Use the eight-second ARC grace period to communicate your position and decide whether a teammate can reach you.
  • Avoid unnecessary movement after the grace period; ARC may reacquire you if it catches you moving.
  • If a revive is not possible, protect the rest of the squad’s extraction route instead of turning one down into a full-team loss.

Spend stamina as an extraction resource

Sprinting drains stamina. Standing, walking and crouching restore it. A slide after sprinting does not expend stamina, and holstering a weapon allows faster running. These details matter most when you are crossing exposed ground or leaving an extraction point after its activation noise has attracted ARC.

  1. Walk or crouch while scouting. Restore stamina before entering an exposed lane instead of sprinting everywhere.
  2. Holster before a long relocation. The faster run can shorten the time you spend in danger.
  3. Reserve a final sprint. Do not arrive at an extraction with an empty stamina bar; keep enough for the approach, activation aftermath or a break from an ARC patrol.
  4. Use the slide intelligently. Sliding after a sprint can preserve stamina, but it does not replace route planning or cover.

Search containers without losing the run to noise or clutter

Containers take several seconds to search and make noise. Searching grants XP even when a container is empty, but inventory space is limited. Decide whether the experience, a specific material or a progression objective justifies the time and sound.

Use a simple loot filter

  • Keep: items that complete your stated resource objective, support healing or shielding, or are required for your planned extraction and next run.
  • Leave: low-priority items that consume a slot without improving the current route.
  • Pause: if searching would leave you exposed or put you behind the time needed to reach both extraction options.

In a PvE test with lower overall loot value, a full inventory is not automatically a successful inventory. The best beginner habit is to leave with a smaller, intentional haul and a clear understanding of the route you just learned.

Use this first-run procedure

Run one: learn the loop

  1. Select the Free Loadout unless you specifically need a custom item.
  2. Before moving, identify two extraction options and the region you want to inspect.
  3. Travel by walking or crouching when you are not under pressure; watch how ARC patrols move.
  4. Search only a few containers, noting the search time and noise rather than chasing every possible item.
  5. Reach an extraction with stamina and at least one recovery option if available.
  6. Extract as soon as you have learned the route. The goal is a repeatable return, not a maximum-value bag.

Run two: test one controlled ARC decision

  1. Use a low-cost custom loadout only if you can afford the loss.
  2. Choose one ARC encounter that blocks a useful route; otherwise bypass it.
  3. If fighting, prefer armor-penetration guidance from the beginner guide and preserve ammunition for the return trip.
  4. Ping the threat, watch for additional ARC and keep a retreat path open.
  5. Stop looting once your inventory or recovery supplies no longer support the extraction plan.

Run three: practise a contingency

  1. Start with a primary ordinary exit and a backup in another direction; use a Raider Hatch only if you have its key.
  2. Approach the primary exit with stamina, healing and shield recovery ready.
  3. Activate it, then respond to the noise instead of freezing at the console. Move to cover or use the backup route if ARC pressure makes the first exit untenable.
  4. If you are downed, communicate immediately and respect the eight-second grace period; movement after it can let ARC reacquire you.

Common first-run mistakes and fixes

Symptom Likely mistake Fix on the next deployment
You reach extraction with no stamina Sprinting was used for routine travel. Walk or crouch while scouting, holster your weapon for long runs and reserve a final sprint.
Your inventory fills before the objective is complete Every container was treated as equally valuable. Use a loot filter and leave space for the resources that define the run.
ARC overwhelms you after a down You moved immediately or assumed the downed state was safe. Use the eight-second grace period to communicate and decide; after it, avoid movement that can trigger reacquisition.
An extraction becomes chaotic The activation noise was not part of the route plan. Arrive with recovery and stamina, identify cover and keep a second exit available.
A weapon burns ammunition without stopping ARC efficiently ARC Armor Penetration was ignored. Prefer the Ferro or Hullcracker for unavoidable machine fights, subject to later balance changes.
You expect PvE loot to match normal sessions The test’s lower loot value was overlooked. Measure success by safe extraction, route knowledge and progression rather than haul size alone.
The PvE option is missing The selected map condition is excluded. Check whether you are in Night Raid, Locked Gate, Hidden Bunker, Frigate, Redirection or another condition without the option.
The queue takes longer than expected Your region or play time has a low population. Allow for variable matchmaking times during quiet hours or in low-population regions.

What to remember when the test ends

The rules above are tied to Embark’s October 13–20, 2026 test. The toggle is not confirmation of a permanent PvE playlist, and the excluded map conditions, loot adjustment, matchmaking behavior or ARC interactions may change. Recheck the official announcement after October 20 before treating the test as the long-term shape of ARC Raiders: https://arcraiders.com/news/pve-toggle-what-to-know.

For the first runs themselves, keep the decision order simple: protect equipment you can afford to lose, know two ways out, avoid unnecessary ARC fights, carry recovery when possible, preserve stamina for exposed movement, and treat every extraction activation as a noise event. PvE removes one source of danger, not the need to make disciplined route and resource choices.
