You can squad up across those systems, and an Embark ID carries your progress, purchases, and cosmetics between supported accounts. Matchmaking is not divided into guaranteed “friendly” and “shoot-on-sight” queues: it uses a gradual, playstyle-based scale, so similar encounters become more likely but are never promised.
This FAQ reflects the platform and matchmaking information published by the official ARC Raiders and Embark support pages through October 18, 2026.

ARC Raiders crossplay and platform support at a glance
The official ARC Raiders site describes “seamless social play across PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.” The listed platforms and services are Steam, Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce NOW. That means a player on a supported PC storefront can play with friends on PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, provided everyone uses the required account connection.

Can PS5, Xbox, and PC players join the same squad?
Yes. ARC Raiders is designed for cross-platform social play, so a party can include PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC players. PC access is listed through Steam and the Epic Games Store. The platform mix does not by itself prevent friends from playing together; the key requirement is that each player completes the account setup and uses the in-game friend and party systems associated with the correct Embark ID.
What you need before inviting friends
- A supported copy or access method on Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or a listed streaming service.
- An Embark ID for every player. Embark says this account is required to play ARC Raiders.
- The correct platform account linked to each person’s Embark ID.
- Your friends’ Embark-linked names or identifiers, entered through the game’s social interface.
If a friend does not appear, first check that both players are signed into the intended Embark ID and that the game is running on the account that owns the linked platform entitlement. A console profile or PC storefront login by itself is not a substitute for the required Embark account.
What is an Embark ID, and why is it required?
Embark’s Help Center says: “To play ARC Raiders, you’ll need an Embark ID, your unique account that connects your progress, purchases, and friends across platforms.” The account is the identity layer that lets the game recognize you across supported systems rather than treating every platform profile as an unrelated player.

- Progress: Your linked account is used to retain game progress across the supported cross-progression platforms.
- Purchases and cosmetics: Embark states that these are saved through the account, so they can follow you when you use a linked supported platform.
- Friends: The account provides the cross-platform social connection used to find and play with other Raiders.
How to set up your account safely
- Create or sign in to an Embark ID using the account flow presented for ARC Raiders.
- Launch the game on the platform you intend to use as your primary account.
- When prompted, link that platform profile to the Embark ID you want to keep permanently.
- Repeat the linking process for your other supported platforms, making sure you sign in to the same Embark ID rather than creating a second one.
- Open the game’s social screen and confirm that your friends and owned items appear before switching platforms.
Embark’s support information says one account per platform can be linked for Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic Games, Discord, and Twitch. Treat the first link as a deliberate choice: accidentally attaching the wrong platform profile can create an account-recovery problem that cannot be solved by simply logging into a different storefront.
Does ARC Raiders have cross-progression?
Yes, with an important scope distinction. Embark explicitly describes cross-progression between Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S when those accounts are connected to the same Embark ID. Progress, purchases, and cosmetics are associated with that account rather than being isolated to one of those three platforms.

Do not assume that moving a purchase between storefronts means buying the game twice or that every store has an identical licensing policy. The official support statement confirms account-connected progress, purchases, and cosmetics, while store ownership and regional edition rules can still vary.

How ARC Raiders matchmaking works
Embark’s May 20, 2026 matchmaking note says the system balances fairness and enjoyment with matchmaking time and network latency. It also tries to create squads of equal size where possible. One of the strongest inputs is your playstyle across previous rounds.
Playstyle is a continuous scale
Embark does not describe two fixed queues such as “friendly” and “shoot on sight.” Instead, playstyle is measured along a continuous scale. Players whose recent behavior is more similar are more likely to encounter one another, but “similarity is more likely, not guaranteed.” A player who usually avoids unnecessary fights can still meet an aggressive squad, and a combat-focused player can still enter a quieter encounter.
Why one match does not redefine your lobbies
The system changes tendencies gradually as your behavior changes. A single shot, kill, or defensive exchange does not instantly move you into a different lobby type. The history of previous rounds carries more weight than one isolated decision, which prevents a brief mistake or unusual match from producing an abrupt matchmaking swing.

Behavior that does and does not matter

These rules mean a player should not try to manipulate matchmaking by repeatedly firing one harmless shot, bringing a cheaper kit, avoiding loot, or relying on the end-of-round screen. Those signals are not the factors Embark identifies as driving the profile.
Are there PvE-only or guaranteed friendly lobbies?
No. Embark states: “There are no ‘PvE-only’ lobbies/servers where other Raiders will never attack you.” Every match should therefore be approached as a mixed encounter in which another player may choose to fight, regardless of your own intentions or recent history.
Playstyle matchmaking can make similar encounters more likely over time, but it cannot turn the game into a protected cooperative mode. If your goal is to reduce unnecessary conflict, communication, cautious routing, and disengagement are in-match decisions; they are not a queue guarantee.

What happens when you turn crossplay off?
The crossplay setting changes the population pool available to matchmaking and can change queue time. It does not promise a more cooperative lobby, a more aggressive lobby, or a different encounter tone. Turning the option off is therefore a population and preference choice, not a PvE switch.
Reasons to leave crossplay on
- Keep the largest possible pool for finding friends and filling squads.
- Reduce the chance that a restricted pool increases your wait.
- Use the game’s intended cross-platform social model.
Reasons you might test crossplay off
- You prefer to limit the platforms represented in your matches.
- You are troubleshooting a platform-specific party or input issue.
- You accept that a smaller pool may produce longer queues.
Measure the setting by queue experience and personal comfort, not by an expectation of safer behavior. Embark explicitly does not guarantee that disabling crossplay changes how willing other Raiders are to attack.
Choosing a platform: the practical decision framework

For a group choosing together, compatibility and account linking matter more than trying to force everyone onto one storefront. For a solo player, choose the platform that fits your controls, display, network, and existing purchases, then protect that choice by linking the intended profile to one Embark ID.

Troubleshooting common crossplay and progression problems
“My friend cannot find me”
- Check that both of you are online in ARC Raiders, not only signed into the console or PC storefront.
- Verify that each person is using the intended Embark ID.
- Confirm that the platform profile is linked to that ID and that the friend request was sent through the game’s social system.
- Restart the game after correcting an account link so the social roster can refresh.
“My progress or cosmetics are missing on another platform”
- Stop before creating a second Embark ID.
- Sign out and identify which Embark ID contains the original progress.
- Check that Steam, PS5, or Xbox Series X|S is linked to that same account.
- If the issue concerns Epic Games Store or a streaming session, remember that the cited support article does not specify a separate cross-progression promise for every listed access method.
“Turning crossplay off did not make matches friendlier”
That result is expected under Embark’s stated rules. The setting changes the matchmaking pool and may affect wait time, but it does not guarantee an encounter tone. PvP risk remains part of the game even when playstyle similarity is being used.
“One defensive kill changed my lobbies”
Embark says a single shot or kill does not immediately switch you to a PvP-focused lobby. The system considers behavior over previous rounds, treats defending yourself differently from starting a fight, and gives low-activity rounds less weight. Allow several rounds for tendencies to change rather than judging the system from one match.
Bottom line for new and returning Raiders
ARC Raiders is a cross-platform extraction experience for Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and GeForce NOW access. Use one Embark ID to connect your identity, friends, purchases, and cosmetics; explicit cross-progression coverage is stated for Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
