Main extraction points are designed to attract both ARC machines and rival Raiders. Calling an elevator or entering the extraction zone creates an audible, exposed countdown during which enemies can converge. You survive more consistently by choosing a route that fits your loot plan, scouting the final approach, clearing nearby ARC, preserving cover and stamina, and checking suspicious positions before committing.
There is no authoritative published number for an ARC aggro radius or a player-hearing radius. Treat “aggro range” as a combination of distance, line of sight, movement, combat state and sound-producing actions—not as a universal circle measured in metres.

What extraction camping means in ARC Raiders
Extraction camping is the practice of waiting near an extraction point, its approach routes or likely cover positions to attack Raiders who arrive carrying loot. In ARC Raiders, this behaviour is encouraged by the map’s risk-and-reward design. Embark Studios says main extraction points have no direct cost, but they “draw a lot of attention from both ARC and other players.” That attention is the central reason a successful raid can still end in a last-second death.

ARC machines can create a second layer of danger by joining the fight, forcing you to move, reveal your position or spend healing and ammunition before the other squad appears.

The practical goal is therefore not to find a permanently safe point. It is to reduce the number of threats that can act during your extraction window and to keep at least one escape option if another Raider is already waiting.
How aggro and hearing actually work
No fixed public aggro radius exists
The reviewed official and game-store guidance does not publish a single numerical ARC aggro distance or player-hearing distance. Any chart claiming that every machine detects movement at a precise number of metres should be treated as version-specific player testing, not a universal rule. If you measure distances yourself, record the patch, map, machine type, weather or visibility conditions, stance, movement speed and the exact action that triggered detection.
The factors that change detection
- Distance: Being farther away generally gives a machine or player less opportunity to detect you, but distance alone does not make a route safe.
- Line of sight: Walls, terrain, structures and other solid cover can break a visual path. Thin cover, open windows and elevated sightlines can leave you exposed.
- Movement: Sprinting across open ground is easier to notice than a controlled approach behind cover. Movement also consumes the stamina you may need for the final dash.
- Combat state: A machine already fighting, damaged or alerted may behave differently from one that has not been disturbed. A firefight can also reveal your location to human opponents.
- Sound-producing actions: Weapon fire, combat, calling an elevator and other extraction activity create information that can travel beyond your immediate view.
Use “aggro range” as a decision aid: ask which machines or players could plausibly see, hear or reach the route if you make noise now. Do not rely on a memorised radius that may not apply to the current patch or situation.

Extraction activity creates a predictable exposure window. The Epic Games Store’s ARC Raiders guide lists Cargo Elevators, Raider Hatches, Airshafts and other extraction points, and advises learning their locations, planning routes and recognising that extraction activity makes noise. A community wiki reports that an elevator takes about 45 seconds after being called. That timing is a community report, not an official specification, so treat it as an approximate planning value rather than a guarantee.

Those seconds matter because the call tells nearby players that someone intends to leave and gives them time to reposition. It also gives ARC machines time to approach, especially if they are already active in the area. The call can therefore turn a quiet route into a contest even when nobody was visible on your first sweep.
Think of the call as a commitment with three phases:
- Before the call: You still have the freedom to change direction, retreat or choose another point.
- During the countdown: The extraction is noisy and predictable. You must hold the area, monitor approaches and avoid spending all your stamina or ammunition on a side fight.
- At the final movement: You may have to expose yourself to board or enter the extraction. A camper who waited through the countdown is most dangerous at this moment.
A safer extraction route, step by step
1. Choose the point that fits the end of your loot route
Pick the extraction nearest the end of the route you actually intend to run, rather than crossing the entire map late in the raid for a theoretically better point. Long travel adds encounters, noise, stamina loss and the chance of arriving while another squad is already fighting. If your backpack contains the item you came for, extracting earlier is often the rational trade: additional containers increase potential value but also increase the number of contested approaches you must survive.

2. Scout the final approach before committing
Stop short of the extraction zone and inspect the likely sightlines. Look for elevated windows, dark corners, rocks, vegetation, doorways and routes that provide a clean view of the elevator or hatch. Listen for recent combat and movement. Identify where you would retreat if the first shots came from the front, then identify a second direction that does not funnel you into the same cover.

3. Clear nearby ARC machines
An extraction guide updated 7 October 2026 recommends clearing nearby ARC machines before starting the countdown. This is not about eliminating every machine on the map. It is about removing the enemies most likely to join the fight while you are stationary and exposed. Clear only what controls the final approach, then reload, heal and reposition before calling.
4. Keep cover, an escape angle and stamina
Call from a position that lets you break line of sight without crossing the extraction point itself. Keep enough stamina for the final move or a retreat; arriving exhausted can turn a survivable ambush into a forced stand-up fight. Avoid standing in the exact place every incoming player must pre-aim. Cover is most valuable when it protects you from more than one direction and still leaves a route out.
5. Probe suspicious cover
If a bush, doorway, vehicle, rooftop or rock line looks like a natural waiting position, test it before walking into the open. The 7 October 2026 extraction guide specifically recommends a Smoke Grenade or Heavy Fuze Grenade when a camp is suspected. Smoke can deny a clear view while you reposition; a Heavy Fuze Grenade can pressure a concealed player or force movement. Use these tools to check a position, not as proof that the entire area is clear.
6. Compare alternative extraction types
When a Raider Hatch is available, compare it with the normal point using the factors that matter in this raid: whether you have the key, whether the hatch accepts your whole squad, how far it is, how much cover surrounds it and whether another route can serve as a fallback. A hatch is not automatically best; its value depends on those constraints.

7. Leave when the risk-to-value ratio turns against you
Every extra minute spent looting after you have a valuable backpack increases the chance of arriving during a contested window or being caught between active squads. Set a personal extraction threshold before the raid—for example, after obtaining a rare objective or reaching the amount of loot you can replace comfortably. This turns “one more room” into a deliberate choice instead of a habit.
Extraction options compared
No extraction is universally safest in every raid. Use the following comparison to choose for the current map state rather than memorising a permanent ranking.
| Route factor | Main extraction point | Raider Hatch | Airshaft or other listed point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Player exposure | Often high because the point is a known destination and attracts attention | Potentially lower, depending on access and how many players have the key | Depends on location, visibility and current traffic |
| ARC pressure | Nearby ARC may join during the countdown | Can reduce exposure to a busy main point, but nearby ARC still matters | Must be assessed on the final approach |
| Noise and predictability | Calling the extraction creates an audible, predictable window | Access requirements can change who can use it; surrounding activity still creates risk | Extraction activity is still a sound and timing consideration |
| Travel distance | Best when it is near the end of your planned route | Only safer if the detour does not force a dangerous cross-map run | Choose based on route length and cover |
| Key or consumable requirement | No direct cost is stated for main extraction points | Requires a key | Requirement varies by point; verify in the current game |
| Squad capacity | Use according to the point’s in-game rules | Has squad-extraction limitations; confirm that every teammate can leave | Confirm capacity before splitting the team |
| Fallback potential | Look for another nearby route before calling | A hatch can be a fallback only if the key and squad rules allow it | Plan a second point or protected retreat |
When Raider Hatches are the better choice
Raider Hatches trade convenience for a safer extraction profile. Embark’s risk-and-reward explanation identifies them as an alternative that is safer but requires keys and has limitations for squad extraction. That trade makes a hatch attractive when you already have the required key, the entire squad can use it and the detour does not expose you to a longer trip through open terrain.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Before changing course, check four questions:
- Do you actually have the hatch key now, rather than assuming one will be found nearby?
- Can every member of your squad extract through this hatch under its current rules?
- Will reaching it require crossing a larger or more exposed part of the map?
- What is your fallback if another player reaches the hatch first?
If any answer is uncertain, a nearby normal extraction with strong cover may be safer than a long sprint toward a hatch. The hatch reduces one kind of exposure; it does not erase travel, sound or ambush risk.

How to react when a camp is suspected
Do not repeat the same peek
If shots come from a likely camp, break line of sight and change your angle. Re-peeking the same doorway or rock gives the opponent the easiest possible follow-up. Use smoke, hard cover or a different elevation, then decide whether to fight, rotate or abandon the point.
Separate the human threat from the ARC threat
ARC machines can make a human ambush harder to read because their movement and attacks create additional noise. If you can safely do so, eliminate the nearby machine that controls your retreat. If doing that exposes you to the suspected camper, disengage and rotate instead of turning the area into a prolonged three-way fight.
Use the extraction as bait only deliberately
Calling an elevator to lure a camper is a high-risk play. It gives away your intention and may attract ARC as well as the target. Attempt it only when you have a clear retreat, enough resources for the fight and a second extraction available. Otherwise, rotate to a different point and preserve the loot.
Common mistakes that cause extraction deaths
- Calling immediately after arriving: You skip the scan and allow a hidden player to keep the best angle.
- Clearing the whole map instead of the final approach: You spend ammunition and time without reducing the threat that matters.
- Standing in the open during the countdown: You become visible to every approach while remaining predictable.
- Running without stamina: You reach the point unable to cross the final gap or retreat from an ambush.
- Assuming one extraction is always safe: Traffic, ARC activity, keys, squad size and cover change from raid to raid.
- Treating a community timing report as a guarantee: The approximately 45-second elevator figure may change; use it as a planning estimate.
- Ignoring squad rules at a hatch: A route that works for one Raider may not extract the entire team.
What is and is not known about extraction ranges
Current public guidance establishes the pattern of risk—main points attract attention, extraction activity makes noise and nearby ARC should be cleared—but it does not establish a publisher-owned statistic for extraction-camping frequency, aggro distance or sound distance. The absence of a published number is important: it means a precise “safe radius” would overstate what is known.
For your own testing, change one variable at a time. Use the same machine, movement mode and map position; measure from the action that produces sound; record whether line of sight is open; and note the game version. A result from one patch or map should be labelled as a local test, not a rule for every ARC Raiders extraction.
A practical pre-call checklist
- Is this extraction near the end of my planned route?
- Have I checked the approach, elevated sightlines and likely hiding places?
- Are the nearby ARC machines that could join the fight cleared or accounted for?
- Do I have hard cover, an escape angle and enough stamina?
- Can I use smoke or a Heavy Fuze Grenade to probe a suspicious position?
- If this point is contested, do I know my fallback route?
- If I am considering a Raider Hatch, do I have the key and can the whole squad use it?
- Is the loot valuable enough to justify another minute of exposure?
Following this checklist does not make an extraction risk-free. It changes the fight from a surprise at the final doorway into a decision you have prepared for: hold with cover, spend a grenade to check the angle, rotate to a fallback or leave before the backpack becomes more valuable than your remaining survival margin.
