ARC Raiders is an extraction adventure built around one decision: keep exploring the surface for more resources and objectives, or leave through an extraction point before ARC machines or rival Raiders end the run. A successful extraction brings your haul back to Speranza. A failed run can cost the equipment you took with you, although the game provides a free-loadout and Scrappy recovery route.
Your long-term progress is broader than the contents of one backpack. Raider levels and skills, Workshop crafting, Trader quests, Cred, Raider Deck rewards and Codex discoveries all develop your account. At level 20, you can optionally begin an Expedition, which resets selected progress in exchange for Expedition rewards and bonuses while preserving several account-wide unlocks.

What ARC Raiders is
The official description calls ARC Raiders “a multiplayer extraction adventure, set in a lethal future earth, ravaged by a mysterious mechanized threat known as ARC.” The setting is split between underground Speranza and a dangerous surface called the Last Belt. Speranza is where you prepare and recover; topside is where you search for materials, pursue objectives and try to extract.

ARC machines are a shared environmental danger rather than a background decoration. Other Raiders can also be present, so a run can shift between scavenging, evasion, cooperation and combat. You may play solo or in a team of up to three. The official FAQ says matchmaking prioritizes solo-versus-solo and team-versus-team encounters, but that priority is not a promise that every match will contain only the same party size.

Embark narrative designer Celia Lewis summarized the central trade-off in Xbox Wire on September 22, 2025: “Scavenging for long periods can reap awesome rewards, but the longer a group stays topside, the more likely they will not only come across Arc, but other Raiders as well.” That is the useful mental model for every raid: time can improve the potential haul while increasing exposure.
How an extraction run works
1. Prepare in Speranza
Choose the equipment you are willing to risk and make sure you understand what is being taken into the run. The Workshop is the preparation hub for crafting, repairing and upgrading gear. Materials found on earlier runs can be turned into equipment, while unwanted loot can be sold for coin. Do not assume that a valuable item is automatically worth carrying into a dangerous raid; its value depends on whether you need it for a recipe, a quest or an immediate upgrade.
2. Enter the surface and set a goal
Once topside, establish a practical objective before filling every available slot. You might be looking for a particular material, completing a Trader quest, pursuing a small challenge or simply trying to return with enough resources to fund the next run. A clear goal helps you recognize when the run has already paid for itself.

Every extra search, fight or detour can improve the haul, but it also gives ARC and other Raiders more opportunities to find you. The available sources do not provide a universal time limit, percentage risk or guaranteed safe threshold. Treat the decision as situational: consider the value of what you already carry, your remaining supplies, the objective still outstanding and how costly another failed run would be.

4. Reach an extraction point
The purpose of extraction is to leave the surface with the run’s rewards. Exact extraction-point operation, timing and exceptions can change with updates and are not fully specified in the cited FAQ, so follow the current on-screen instructions at the point you use. Plan your route before you are overloaded or already under pressure from ARC or another squad.
5. Return to Speranza and convert the haul into progress
A successful extraction makes the recovered resources available for the rest of your progression. Use the Workshop to craft, repair or upgrade; sell surplus items for coin; and apply materials to the quests or challenges that matter to your current build. Extraction is not just escape—it is the step that turns surface risk into lasting capability.
What happens when you fail to extract?
The official FAQ directly addresses the situation in which a player fails to extract and loses equipment. The safe assumption is that equipment brought into the run is at risk if the run ends unsuccessfully. The cited FAQ does not provide a complete item-by-item rulebook for protected inventory, downed states, teammate recovery or every extraction-point exception, so do not rely on blanket claims that particular items are always safe or always lost. Check the current in-game wording and patch notes for those details.

This loss is a run setback, not a permanent lockout. The FAQ says you can use a free loadout available in Speranza or use Scrappy, the item-collecting companion, to get going again. Those are restart routes after a loss; they do not preserve the equipment that was lost.

A sensible recovery sequence
- Return to Speranza. Review what remains rather than immediately spending scarce materials.
- Use the free loadout or Scrappy. Treat the first recovery run as a way to rebuild basic supplies, not as a maximum-value expedition.
- Set a lower-risk objective. Prioritize materials needed for repairs, crafting or the next dependable loadout.
- Extract earlier than usual. Once the recovery run has produced useful resources, bank them instead of chasing a larger haul.
- Rebuild gradually. Reinvest extracted materials into Workshop upgrades and only increase risk when the replacement cost is manageable.
Stay topside or extract now?
There is no published numerical rule that tells you the correct moment to leave. Use the following comparison instead:

The decision should be based on marginal value, not on a vague feeling that the map is “almost safe.” A nearly full inventory, a completed quest and an expensive kit usually favor extraction. A low-value loadout and an unfinished objective may justify one more circuit, provided you have a clear exit plan.
How normal progression works
Raider level and skills
Topside activity awards XP, and XP raises your Raider level. The FAQ says each level awards skill points. Those points unlock abilities in playstyle areas that include mobility, stealth and carry capacity. This creates a persistent character-development layer separate from the equipment you may lose in a single run.

Gear, materials and the Workshop
The player-facing game description presents crafting, repairing and upgrading gear in the Workshop as a core activity. Scavenged loot has two broad uses: sell it for coin or convert it into equipment and improvements. Before selling, check whether an item is needed for a recipe, repair or quest. A short-term cash gain can be less valuable than avoiding another expensive replacement run.
Trader quests and challenges
Trader quests provide structured objectives beyond simple looting. Small topside challenges award Cred, and Cred unlocks rewards on the Raider Deck. This gives you a reason to vary your routes and pursue tasks that may not maximize immediate loot but advance a separate reward track.
Codex discoveries
Exploration also unlocks Codex records about ARC, Last Belt locations and encountered people. Codex progress is a discovery track: it rewards learning the world and documenting what you find, rather than only improving the next loadout.

An Expedition is not an automatic wipe. The official FAQ says it unlocks at Raider level 20 and lets you choose when to reset. That makes it a deliberate trade: you give up selected current progress in return for Expedition rewards and bonuses, rather than being forced to restart on a fixed date.

The FAQ describes a general eight-week Expedition cycle. That general cadence should not be confused with the current live schedule. An announcement for the Fifth Expedition says its window is followed by a pause until early 2027 while Embark works on major improvements. It also says earned consecutive buffs persist during the pause. The same announcement describes an opt-in quest-reset change and current-cycle rewards and buffs. Those details belong to that dated Fifth Expedition announcement, not to a permanent guarantee about every future cycle.
When an Expedition makes sense
- Consider it if you have reached level 20, want the Expedition rewards or bonuses, and are comfortable rebuilding your level, skills, XP, inventory, stash and crafting progress.
- Delay it if you are still developing a preferred skill setup, completing important crafting goals or relying on stored equipment for a near-term objective.
- Remember what survives. Cosmetics, purchases, Raider Tokens, Cred, Raider Deck progress, Codex entries, unlocked maps and earlier Expedition bonuses remain available according to the FAQ.
Because the reset is optional, there is no universal “correct” level-20 choice. Compare the value of the next Expedition reward against the practical cost of rebuilding the progress listed in the reset column.
Current live-service caveats
PvE Toggle Beta Test
The official ARC Raiders homepage lists a PvE Toggle Beta Test running October 13–20, 2026. The existence and dates of the test are established, but the cited material does not specify exact loot changes, matchmaking rules or whether the toggle will remain after the test. Do not treat the beta as a permanent mode or assume it changes the normal extraction economy without current in-game information.

Extraction behavior, loss exceptions, matchmaking priorities, Expedition rewards and live-event schedules can change. The broad loop—scavenge, manage exposure, extract and convert the haul into progression—is stable enough to learn, but exact rules should come from the current FAQ, patch notes and on-screen instructions. In particular, do not infer a guaranteed recovery rule for a downed teammate, a protected stash category or a specific extraction-point behavior from the general explanation above.

A beginner plan that limits avoidable losses
- Start with a modest kit. Bring equipment you can replace through a free loadout, Scrappy-assisted recovery or one successful resource run.
- Pick one primary objective. A Trader quest, a needed Workshop material or a small challenge is easier to evaluate than an unfocused search.
- Track the value already secured. Once you have the quest item or key crafting materials, reassess instead of automatically extending the raid.
